I think there are lots of loopholes in your procedure. When you add the chemicals, please consider the oxygen intake; hence dip the pipette below the water surface. Also, how much volume did you take that is needed and titrated with the thiosulfate?
might as well show your BOD calculations and chemical reactions of the process.

one of the best video i have seen on BOD.

You uncapped your water sample for quite an extended period of time before adding the manganese sulfate, this will allow oxygen in the room air to enter the sample and change the concentration. Also your water samples were evidently not filled to the top as when you add your reagents they should displace some liquid as you are adding in excess.

I think now a days bod can be determined by hach bar coded kits or incubator based oxitop device as it requires very basic reagents and gives accurate results

If the expected BOD of a sample is in the range 35 mg/L to 85 mg/L, what would be the
minimum and maximum sample volumes to use for the sample dilution?

Addition of wrinkler solutions should be done deep under the water for proper mixing and fixation

Could I know the concentration of the chemicals that were used? And is starch solution starch in aqueous solution or starch indicator solution? I’m assuming it’s the first one

Thx , it was good presentation but loud music didnt allow to hear well. Also it wd be much better if u provid explanation, ex ( why did u proceed without dilution!?, and if the dilution is required? How to detrmine the factors based on the detection limit of the method? Etc.
    Thx

  • @PCLye

    Hi
if I have a digital DO meter
    can I conduct a BOD5 by
...1st sample leaves for 5 days in the dark then take the DO reading
...2nd sample direct from the source - take the DO reading
then Subtracting the difference in value without going through the titration route?

    • @sirshem9683
      @sirshem9683  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, as long as the DO meter is properly calibrated.

Is the formula for calculating BOD correct? I'm a little confused because in some places I've read that BOD value = [DO(initial)- DO(final)]× Dilution factor.
