Those can't be repaired because their design is fundamentally broken. The Nvidia early 90nm RSX in the backwards compatible PS3s (and early 65nm runs, too) is of a generation when Nvidia was having production problems across the board, also earning them a full, life-time ban from all things Apple when they didn't make good on their blunder. Basically, the only hope to continue using a backwards compatible PS3 once its original RSX breaks boils down to backporting a much later, 40nm shrink of the RSX to the old board, which some enterprising technicians have managed to do. You can check youtube for videos of it being done and inquire a quote from enterprising technicians to fix your console.
OK, these types of videos are pretty cool and the subject matter is endless. Pick a piece of random hardware and break it down for the people. Gotta give the people what they want!

Seems like they missed an opportunity to give some additional cooling to the m.2 drive. A more open screwplate and some thermal pads there would've been nice as theres a heatsink right behind it now.
Maybe with possible homebrew in the far future. Since the OG PS5 will very likely dont know the Hardware ID of the new drive and simply block it. That why i got directly a disc version when i got mine in 2021

Agreed that the glossy plates are a 👎
They will look nice for a short time, then get scratched and look awful once you try to clean dust off the PS5
i also don't care for the two tone look. Either do all matte or all glossy. Don't mix it. It looked bad on the original PS4 and it looks bad here.
Hey tronicsfix! I was wondering if you would be willing to repair a ps3 backwards compatable?
No thank you. I’m quite content with my plain Jane girthy launch PS5. At least until next fall when I’ll upgrade to the PS5 Pro of course. One that has a disc drive that is.
Waiting for you to do a PS portal teardown or a repairable video. Pretty please.
I love my ps5 slim
Would you recommend plugging a japanese PS5 (CFI 2000 A01) to a 220V outlet? Manuals and console itself say it's 100V, but everywhere on the internet it says that this is because of regulations from each country/region, but all of them just have the same dual voltage PSU
Seems like they missed an opportunity to give some additional cooling to the m.2 drive. A more open screwplate and some thermal pads there would've been nice as theres a heatsink right behind it now.
On that connector I have always just pressed down on the tab and released it like you did
I need that brush he has for cleaning
I'm still hoping that one day someone will create some sort of enclosure that I can use to connect the disc drive to my original ps5 digital
Maybe with possible homebrew in the far future. Since the OG PS5 will very likely dont know the Hardware ID of the new drive and simply block it.
That why i got directly a disc version when i got mine in 2021
Would be nice to know, If they use the same ics on the power supply DNP012A, DDA001
The dots represent screw length. More dots, longer screw.
Why would there be two dots next to a hole that isn't for a screw?
@@Tronicsfix I assume they made a last minute change but didn't bother updating the panel. This or it's for another future revision
Retooling is expensive. All the screws follow the pattern though.
I will wait for the ps5 pro come out someday and see what is the difference between the ps5 slim. 😊
Chances of them making one are slim because there's no point. Ps4 got one because it's performance was god awful. The ps5 has amazing performance
You are not wrong.
Any word on buzzing caps in that PSU? Or was it already fixed during the production of the previous model?
The holes are for the mould plastic injection machine know where things are.
Keeping a ‘rigid connection’ between a ‘hand induced force’ and the PS5 motherboard - via HDMI slot - shows that mechanical integrity engineers were nowhere near the PS5 structural design team.
I think that the number of dots indicates the length of the crew
You mention taking screenshots a whole lot, but I always view TH-cam on my laptop. Large screen is much better
Laptops take screenshots too!
@@Tronicsfix Yea thats true, desktops too. Thought about that after leaving the comment
I wish you would have given a look at the disc drive socket and connectors. Wonder how difficult they will be to replace or fix?
Hi Steve! I got a few questions, could you swap Liquid Metal and use good quality Thermal Paste instead? would that make it cool better? Is it something you would advise?
Thank You!
He did a video on that. I shut down after a few minutes as thermal paste doesn't conduct heat aswell as liquid metal.
@@SoulJa709 Thanks Man!
@@Yoloarreglo_MrfixitIt shut down after a few minutes WITHOUT a fan. You can use thermal paste inside a ps5 it's just not optimal and you can easily break it...
You can, but you shouldn't.
What about checking if the original PS5 can now swap full disc drives with the latest firmware being
The only time it will not be possible to fix a ps5lim, more specific the disc drive, will be when the server for the ps5 gets shut down.
Considering that ps3 servers are still going almost 20 years later I don't think we'll have to worry for a long while. (Hopefully)
@@POTUS118 true but is an issue regardless.
Shhhh steve them hdmi ports are perfect 😂😂
The ps5 slim cleans easier inside than the og ps5? Saw on one short video how easy the guy takes the fan of ps5 slim out and blows it clean with n aircan. The ps5 og you have like so many screws and things just to clean the fan. If needed anyway. But just this made me think that the ps5 slim is also easier to repair? But I saw another guy easilly clean og ps5 too. So I am not cimpletely sure. Which 1 would you advice me to buy dear sir.
Remember how in PS4 u have to move the whole disk drive and daughter board to get it working on another Ps4?. Im glad that time is gone. No more flimsy ribbon cables either
The launch era OG PS5’s where over engineered as they were newly designed and Sony (or any manufacturer for that reason) tried to bullet proof them as a bad review at launch could have killed them.
Now they have learned a lot since the launch of the OG so the Slim has its advantages…..but I’m sticking with my OG.
If they come out with a PS5 Pro I’ll buy THAT one.
Over the years Ive seen many HDMI port issues. I wonder what people do to break them? I'd imagine u plug it once and that is it
Being rough with it or unplugging/plugging it in constantly
@alexbridenbaker9261 I plugging and unplugging on ps4 millions times for many reasons ( cleaning, moving to other TV,house or my son take the console to his room) but never happen something and working perfect,,,but ps5 hdmi port isn't the same because on some ps5 games is very hot ...I don't know if that happen from ps5 adapter (is close to the port) or from hot air from cooling system. The console is very clean and also new
@sirusthevirus6879 Hmm...Not sure then. But what do you mean by adapter? The power adapter?
I think it's impatient children who break hdmi ports, they are always in a hurry and don't care
@@ffftube-le8npAlso people with bad cable management. If you want to move a lamp or say finally give that $20/month for 50 years "rental fee" cable box back to the company because you don't want cable anymore and start yanking on coaxials and power cords in a snarled mess maybe the walll end of the cable box was looped around the ps5 hdmi but it's dark and behind a table so you just pull harder and now the ps5 hdmi jiggles lol.
I don't know why, but I sort of expected the slim to be tweaked to run cooler and the liquid metal, replaced with paste. I was wrong.
What has a better cooler a ps5 or ps5 slim
The dots.. maybe to tell where plastic screws go and metallic screws go! 🧐
