PS5 Slim HDMI Port Replacement

In this video I will show you how to replace a PS5 Slim HDMI port. This repair requires a hot air rework station as well as a soldering iron with sufficient wattage. It is not recommended for beginners. Please practice on a game console that you don't care about first as permanent damage can result from using improper equipment/technique.

The only thing i dont like about the drop method is the amount of heat you need to keep soaked into the board. Ive got it honed in now for the ps5 and xbox boards . Come out so clean now. “I add a ton of leaded solder on top ports so when you push it though, most the leaded can be wicked away from the bottom of board. I have a good method for cleaning the holes, but dont bother anymore now.

when you’re getting the solder out of the hdmi holes are you having the board set up side ways? flat? or what

The part of the board where the port is hangs over the edge of my work bench so that I can apply heat from underneath it.

Nice video. I hot swop its easier and faster. i used to use this method but found it not necessary to go through the trouble of cleaning out the anchor holes. great job though. Im still waiting for a slim to turn up at my shop all i get is the original ones...but loads of them. I probably see 1 series x to 50 PS5 for hdmi port replacements.

Thanks. Yeah I used to do the hot swap and have nothing against it but sometimes the ports don’t sit flat and I’ve found this method to be more consistent, at least for me.

What are the solder points for that have no trace on them. Ex at 10:55, the 5th from the right? If I had to jump that where do I jump it to. Thanks

At 10:55 the solder pads are vertical so fifth from the bottom has a trace on the left. Fifth from the top is connected to ground on the right if I am understanding you correctly.

Yes. Check the white ribbon cable near the power button. The end furthest from you is difficult to see/reach but easy to unplug accidentally.

Quick question, is mandatory to replace the Liquid Metal for the CPU? Or you can just remove and put everything together? Will this be like the same as re applying new liquid ?

I recommend leaving the liquid metal as is unless it has spread out away from the APU. It is meant to last a long time unlike the old paste that dried out after a while on the PS4. It is a good idea to prevent contamination as well while you are working on the console.

Are the 4 legs of the new port supposed to go all the way through the board? I don’t think mine have holes.

This may be a stupid question but what is the liquid stuff you using ?

Flux. It helps with heat transfer which is very important especially with this huge motherboard that is designed to cool rapidly.
