"Our Monsters were given to us by people that said they love us." - Christopher Titus said this during his show that I saw last December, during his aptly named Carrying Monsters Tour. Brilliant man, brilliant comedian, but when he said those words... it felt like he hit me with a truck. After the decades of abuse in many forms and by many people, and my "knowing" my worth etc., hearing those words made something inside me snap into place, and I audibly gasped and threw a hand over my mouth. Titus actually looked at me lol, like Wut!? (I was right in front of the stage) It just clicked for me... yeah, I'm carrying the monsters, but THEY are the monsters, NOT ME!!! It was such a holy shit a-ha moment!

Same as me. One ends up in one abusive relationship after another due to ones mother having abused us. Therapy. It takes therapy by a specialist educated within violent relationships to break this.

You are so poised with a fighter spirit. Your life journey has been marked with so many tragedies, but you never gave up. Sorry that your church experience did not prepare you for the battles you had to face. Continue to be the best mom you can. You are loved !

I can so relate to your childhood and adult life.
Even though your mom seemed overprotective I wish my mom wouldn't have let me watch Rated R movies, or allow me to inhale second hand smoke, she was protecting you from the evils in the world, religion is a good thing, it instills morals and values, God bless you that your doing well now
