My wife and I spent what I felt was a surprising amount of time scanning for The Godfather movie reviews like this. In depth and breaking down how it was put together. We wanted something more than some 3-7 minute recap. We came across this after a few rewordings of our search. 100% what we were looking for. I'm honestly shocked there are not more solid breakdown reviews of this movie. We honestly felt, after just finishing watching The Godfather earlier tonight, that you could have made a longer video covering this movie. That's the only criticism we can give. We enjoyed this video. Good job.

In my opinion Godfather deals with the inability of Michael to carry his family along with his business. Vito was very sucessful and Michael was no way near him. There were people who helped and expected help from Vito. But Michael only had paid criminals on his side.
No bro it deals with the legacy of the criminal family and the journey of micheal from a naive to potential successor of the family business. This film is great because unlike other gangster movies which deals with the killings, beleaguers and all the violant stuff, it emphasizes on the family life of the gangster (of course the story was adapted from the novel of puzo, but portraying it on thr screen is a completely different and difficult thing).
Michael's choice to marry Kay made a huge difference in his family. Maybe it was inevitable, I don't know. But Kay, as portrayed in the movie, could not be the wife of a mafia don as Michael's mother was a wife to Vito. Kay simply could not let things rest; she could not stop digging around in Michael's business; she couldn't leave him alone in that respect. It could not work because of her. (Mind you- Kay, as she was portrayed in the movie, is completely different than the way she was portrayed in the book.)
@@georgeguja6155 In the book, she was 'the good little Catholic wife' who went to mass every day to say a prayer for the soul of Michael Corleone. You have opened a whole new world for me. I didn't realised the depth and complexity that goes into film making. Thank you. That's why most of the movies are garbage because people who make them want to make money, not movies.
Your insights are generally well taken. There are a couple with which I take issue as an aficionado of the films. The first glimpse of The Godfather shutting out his family is not when the door is closed on Kay. It’s joy an act of shutting out at all, but one of protection by separating family life from business as he is acknowledged by the men surrounding him as the New Godfather, they kiss his hand and Rocco closes the door to the office. This is not unlike an earlier flashback scene where Dinero, young Vito, is eating with Clemenza and Tessio in the walk up apartment and he tells them that he will take care of the local don who is shaking them down for a piece of their criminal profits. In the scenes, Mrs. Corleone is behind the window separating the kitchen from the table. She casts a curious gaze, but this is her husbands business from which she is shielded, protecting her and giving her deniability for what is to come.
This is awesome, thank you for taking the time to make another great analysis of this amazing film. Let me just say don’t forget to let your videos breath so we, as an audience, can take in the your personal analysis. Keep up the personal expression.
Thank God this came out sooner than I expected! And it's seriously way better, more personal and impactful than CineFix's trivia video on "The Godfather". But this has also made me greedy and I can't help ask you... Can we see a video on The Godfather 2 as well? Coz I believe it's a very nuanced and complex film, arguably better than the first one as well and it will be interesting to see your take on the same. On a completely different note, since you analyze films so well and go so much deeper than just their superficial aspects, I would really want to see an analysis on Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy, which I believe is one of the most layered and beautiful pieces of cinema ever produced!
Fantastic bro! The way you preach behind the curtain is grt. Analyse is way much better than any other critics! Please do analyse on Court and Goodfellas!
Thank you for a great analysis! However re: Micheal's hesitation when emerging from the bathroom - it's from the book. "He remembered Clemenza had told him not to do this, to come out of the toilet and blaze away. But either out of some warning instinct or sheer funk he had not done so. He had felt that if he had made one swift move he would have been cut down. Now he felt safe and he must have been scared because he was glad he was no longer standing on his legs. They had gone weak with trembling." Mario Puzo.
ok.. i love 'The Godfather'. BUT I enjoyed 'Godfather II' much more. . many of my friends also say they found Godfather II more satisfying. yet at most places i see the First movie named as greatest and barely mention of 'Godfather II".. why you think ?
I think it's because part of what makes part 2 so good is that it continues on from part 1. The story of 1 is more rewatchable and has a "happy ending" too which always satisfies audiences. Part 2 is more complex in my opinion which is why it may be a little overlooked
Hey Vinit. I have been watching your videos for very long. This is my first comment on any of your videos. Since the moment I saw your first video, I have been aching to see you do an analysis of The Godfather, because somewhere in my mind I knew you would do it one of these days. The Godfather is my favourite book and movie. As is yours, judging by your comment below. I have lost count as to how many times I have gone through this story in written or motion picture form, but it amazes me even now, after 10 or so years have passed since I first read The Godfather. Every time I watch The Godfather, I find something new, I didn't in the past n times I watched the movie. I cannot begin writing the film's praises because that will take too many words. Instead, I will focus on appreciating the wonderful work you have been doing. From one cinema lover to another, thank you for doing this! Your silent patron.
Your analysis and adding to that Studio Binders analysis for story makes it compelling case study to watch and understand how a movie works best even after almost half a century later. Someday I would wait to see Godfather celebrating its century in blowing movie lovers mind.
While there are lot of interesting points, this by far is one of your most bland analysis till date partly maybe because godfather can be eternally dissected, but the points where I am most dissapointed is where there has been negligible reference to the book without reading which godfather is somewhat incomplete viewing. Michael is not the one trying to gain trust of his family, Rather he is the ulimate hesitant hero, dragged into the family matter just for love of his father. He doesnt marry appolinia out of guilt but rather an intense love at first sight scenario beautifully explained in the book. His return to kay is not one of buisness matters but him being desperate at one last attempt to connect to his former self, his promise that he will return to being THE Michael before all the family drama. just my two cents
Strongly disagree that it was bland. Agree that there were points brought out in the novel that are contradictory to his take on the film. I don't however see that Coppola would have necessarily stuck to Puzo's narrative so am unsure about Michael's motivation to marry Kay. The love at first sight element with Apollonia is extremely evident however in my view and I don't see Michael's guilt playing a part myself. Overall a very interesting video.

Nice review. Certainly one of the better ones. My only criticism which I often have towards all of these reviews is the assessment that Michael wasn't always ruthless or lacked the ability to be ruthless until something we see in the movie happens. I completely disagree with this assessment because Michael was a veteran. He is the only member of the family that not only served in the military, but also fought in war, in fact the biggest war of them all, WW2. I actually laugh at Sonny belittling how a soldier might not be able to deal w/in your face killing. That's EXACTLY what soldiers are able to deal with. Again, great analysis, but I wish someone would touch on the fact that the guy went to war. That's why he is able to stay calm in the hospital. That's why he can put his feelings aside in order to carry out a mission. The guy was trained to do exactly that. IMO, one could say that Michael's fate was sealed the moment he signed up for the war.
This is a very good point. And I completely agree with you when you say that his fate was sealed the moment he signed up for the war. What I think I failed in communicating regarding his ruthlessness is getting involved in "the family" business with no second thoughts. Which goes against his initial moral compass of being a war veteran as he was involved in a "war for just cause". So yes, as a veteran, he definitely had wherewithal to carry out the task. But as a man who fought for just cause, his ruthlessness of getting involved in the family business is what created the character highlight, in my opinion.
@@CinemaBeyondEntertainment No worries, it is a minor criticism on an otherwise unique review for which you deserve credit for. Looking back now, it's so strange how Vito could've imagined Michael as a politician without military service. He would've been accused of being a draft dodger for the last popular war of the 20th century.
@@CinemaBeyondEntertainment LOL, you're right. I think about random things like this all the time. That literally came into my head as I was typing out my response. Are you saying I should start discussing these details on my own channel?
@@theshooter2000 Why not! More people discussing cinema intelligently will only result in intelligent audience which in turn will lead to, hopefully, better cinema! :)
Wonderful, well done! It shows your deep understanding of the film. It is understood that the director worked with the Mafia and had a private screening for them. They were satisfied with the film and incorporated some of the behavior depleted in the film in their everyday life.
Hey Vinit I am a great fan of your work. The way you analyze each and every aspect of the movie is just so delightful to watch. Will you consider analyzing any Wes Anderson movie. That would be great. Cheers...
It is very rarest that a film provides a Theme, Mood and a Feel. Here the Theme is of dealings, in and out of Gangster families, Mood is essentially romantic, mellow if i may say with the greatest suiting music, and the Feel is something else..Beyond Words.
i couldnt refuse my curiosity to watch what you got to say re "the godfather"... its great to hear everyone's opinion... when family/society gets like a "bridge over troubled waters"...
Watched at the age of 15 and that movie hit my heart like a straight pinned bullet .and now i am 20 i have watched it 23 times since then. Maybe someday i get a chance to watch it's rereleased version in theatre.
Rohan Gautam the most overrated movie EVER. He's not even going to consider it. There's nothing to even do there. 2 lines ?! A man wrongfully imprisoned for his wife's murder, who digs a tunnel through his prison cell & escaped ?🙄😂
Dr. MG M I have to disagree, it's a wonderfully executed story that lies its premise on optimism and elements of surprise. People in the end just want to see optimism and things that make them feel they're grateful and shawshank does just that. It brings out the optimism and gratefulness of living the freedom which they (inmates) could not.
Sahil Sharma That's true and it's a great movie which embodies all of what you've said. But putting it in #1 as the greatest movie mankind has ever made is definitely overrated. It will always be in the top 10 but definitely doesn't deserve the #1 tag
Dr. MG M yeah that I absolutely agree, but I think it's because of the social media, over objectification by facebook and very limited view of young audience who are way too ignorant about world cinema, even Hollywood. Infact I like "The lobster" better than shawshank and imdb doesn't even mentions movies like that.

Beautifully & thoughtfully presented. Excellent analysis! I salute you Sir!
That's a whole new movie subject right there!
Totally blown away !!!! What an analysis...
Yes those characters resembles us ! True...
Wonderful, well done!
It shows your deep understanding of the film.
It is understood that the director worked with the Mafia and had a private screening for them.
They were satisfied with the film and incorporated some of the behavior depleted in the film in their everyday life.
Awesome breakdown of an amazing film
When Michael killed Mccluskey and Solozzo in the book, it was the exact same way, although it actually goes into Michael's reasoning for doing it.
Why I feel very much sad after watching this 😭
Beautifully made and narrated, friend!
Brilliant Vineet! Please don't take requests from anybody.
very well done and put together...certainly a step above what i'm use to seeing in the analysis of a film....thanks...
I watch 1 damn Godfather videos now TH-cam thinks it’s my favorite thing ever.
Keep your friends close...but your enemies closer...
that was amazing. keep'em coming
So many falasies, he clearly did not understand the story painted by Mario puzo.
Character of michel resonates with that of Faisal from wasseypur at so many levels.
*Micheal
Lol gow was a cheap copy of this movie.
great essay! Thank you for putting this up. Really clarifies the situation.
beautiful my friend, thank you
One of the very best movie that made justice to its adaptation (novel)....i see Mario Puzo in every frame.....such a class and delightful writer...
Hey Vinit I am a great fan of your work. The way you analyze each and every aspect of the movie is just so delightful to watch. Will you consider analyzing any Wes Anderson movie. That would be great. Cheers...
Please do a video on No Country for Old men. This movie breaks the stereotype of something like Good vs Bad which we have seen in most of the movies
+akshay reddy The Good vs Bad trope was broken in the 1930s itself
@vinitmasram , u r a genius , thank u for making this channel
That was simply beautiful. An apt tribute to The Godfather. Thanks a lot.
Please do an analysis on Once upon a time in west a Sergio Leone film
Then works of Dibankar Banerjee would be nice
One of my favourite movies!
It is very rarest that a film provides a Theme, Mood and a Feel. Here the Theme is of dealings, in and out of Gangster families, Mood is essentially romantic, mellow if i may say with the greatest suiting music, and the Feel is something else..Beyond Words.
Please do film analysis on The good, the bad and the ugly 🙏🙏🎥
rip friend!! ur work is immortal... u will be missed...
this analysis made me cry
i couldnt refuse my curiosity to watch what you got to say re "the godfather"... its great to hear everyone's opinion... when family/society gets like a "bridge over troubled waters"...
Sheer Brilliance Vinit!
Love your channel! 😁
this was very beautiful.....very satisfying explanation you gave
Truly beautiful analysis. Thank you!
Man.... that was the finest review ever made about a legendary movie. totally loved
it
I love, love, love, Al Pacino and always will.
Unique Perspective! Well done
Very satisfying commentary.
Watched at the age of 15 and that movie hit my heart like a straight pinned bullet .and now i am 20 i have watched it 23 times since then. Maybe someday i get a chance to watch it's rereleased version in theatre.
On it's 50th anniversary, it has released in some theaters
But not in India, I guess
Amazing observation and analysis, subscribed.
Now's the turn for *The Shawshank Redemption*
Rohan Gautam a very gud movie...
I know you don't take requests but i would really love to hear your thoughts on godfather part 2. By the way, terrific analysis.Keep up the good work.
I loved every moment of this. Beautifully done, thank you.
