Motorcycle Throttle Lock | Atlas Throttle lock | Install Review and Road Test

  • The ATLAS mounts to most motorcycles in 10 minutes. It clamps to the plastic throttle tube, between the grip flange and the throttle housing. The ATLAS Throttle Lock has two buttons. One to engage the unit and another to disengage the unit. When the ATLAS is engaged, a friction pad on a stainless steel tab presses against the throttle housing wall and, using pressure and friction, stops the return spring from snapping back. When disengaged, your throttle will function exactly like it did from the factory.

    The screwdriver 😂 glad you got it all installed in the end 🤘 it does look a lot simpler than others, I’ve only ever used a throttle lock once and I was 50/50 on whether i really needed it, but this definitely looks interesting, might have to check it out, great video mate 🤘

    Do you have to manually press the button to turn it off? Or can you roll off the throttle and it will disengage to brake with no issue? If I’m on a freeway and a car swerves into my lane id want to be able to brake without any issues

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still move your throttle tube while it's engaged. So if you need to react quickly to what's in front of you, you can. It's literally rubbing against the housing and it's somewhat adjustable so you can setup the pressure such that you can adjust it but it won't turn on its own from the return spring on the throttle if that makes sense.

    Does having the extra weight on the throttle tube make it feel slower or lazy to snap back? Super interested in this!

    Ya know… they outta make one that’s an electronic one, like a cruise control, push button, but allows you to set it at a really low rpm, cruise control isn’t the same…. It could be used for when you come to intersections or need to make a u-turn and want to get into the friction zone for really slow speeds..…. Example…You roll up to the stop light, and pull in the clutch, then you rev it up to the desired rpm for take off,,,, then when your ready to go, and your rpm is locked in just enough to allow you to use the clutch and back brake and have a consistent throttle during your turn and have a perfect friction zone experience.. also it might be helpful during rush-hour when everything’s moving just super slow, but is moving. and the second you move the throttle, it disengages and it back to manual …. It would really help people who struggle to do u-turns or even making a clean safe controlled turn at an intersection

    When your hand is numb, that little button on the Atlas is really hard to push. I ended up taking it off my bike. It was an expensive experiment that failed.

    Does it make the throttle stiffer to operate?

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A little bit, takes some adjusting and trial and error to get it right but it's not bad. I did a 700 mile road trip with it about a month ago.

    Does it have an emergency unlock if you end up having to hit the brakes?

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      It has two buttons, one to lock in place and another to unlock or release.

    • @newbierides
      @newbierides ปีที่แล้ว

      @MonkeyButtRides so basically no. It doesn't unlock automatically if you have to do an emergency brake. You still have to unlock it manually. That doesn't sound good, there are some cheap options out there that you can just push the throttle to release it and braking will lift up the lever that's keeping it in place.

    • @stevehoward3981
      @stevehoward3981 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t really lock the throttle. You can easily close the throttle manually.

    i am so sad. i buyed an kaoko and is not like i imagine. first is not the same black like original bar ends , not even the some shape , damn, for that price i am disappointed. it also not fit to good because i have oxford grips and they are longer with like 1-2 mm . and the friction zone is after almost 2 rotations! the reason i chose that one is because i like it how stealh is into da bike . but this Atlas looks way more easy to use.

    • @MonkeyButtRides
      @MonkeyButtRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both, Kaoko which I've logged over 5k miles of road trips on my ZX10 with. I had no issues with fitment and I to like how stealthy the Kaoko is but it is harder to use for sure. The Atlas is easy to use with one hand but very finicky to adjust and sticks out like a sore thumb.
