    Just changed my victory CC oil myself. Without this video I don’t know if I would have done it on my own. Thanks for posting such great “how to” videos. Especially the motorcycle ones!

    Excellent video.
    You've done everything exactly how I would have explained it.
    At first, I thought that you were putting in way too much oil into your bike until I remembered that your bike engine is bigger than my car engine :)
    I'm glad you're enjoying making these videos. No matter how many people might grumble about how you do things compared to how they might do things, the point is, if you enjoy it, and if you've helped out even a single person, then it's all worth it.
    Keep up the excellent work.

    As far as checking the oil level, the next time you do a change fill with the required amount. Check the level with the bike on the kick stand and make a mark on the stick where the oil level shows. Now when ever you check the oil you can do it on the side stand, much easier than sitting on the bike and holding it level which is almost impossible. On my 92 Freedom it is about 3/16 inch or so above the tip of the stick.

    I always take the oil level when its on the kickstand. I clean it off. Then put it back in and get on and level it SLOWLY. Then put it back on stand SLOWLY. Avoid slushing the oil around. Then I just remember where the oil level is at when its leaned over. Its on just the tip. So i check it every ride in 2 seconds before I start it.

    As always, a great well done video. Have you used synthetic oil such as Amsoil? I had the bike shop put it in my 2014 Victory Cross Country Tour and now my 2016 Victory Cross Country Tour. I go about 10,000-12,000 miles between oil changes. With remaining Victory dealers seeming to have an attitude, I may go back to doing oil changes (used to do them more in my cars than motorcycles), but your video will help with that.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have always used the Shell synthetic oil in my bikes but am going to start using regular oil to see how it runs. Amsoil is very hard to find in Canada, at least in my area that's why \I use the Shell brand.

    Paul,
    Which Rotella do you think works best in your bike? I've been using T6 in my Vulcan for the past 3 years with great results. Now that I own a cross country, should I stick with the blue or go to the white jug?
    Brian

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, I have been using the blue T6 since I bought my bike because that is what my Triumph used. I have since sold my Triumph so I am going to try the white T4 regular oil next in my Vic to see if there is any difference.

  • @brianbeck3628
    @brianbeck3628 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Paul, First off, I have to tell you great job on all the videos. You have shown me many mods I want to do to my 2016 CCT, and thanks to your videos I already know all the steps involved.
    My question for you is, why don't you just use the Victory oil change kit? I have been changing my own oil for years since I bought my Kingpin new in 2011. I have always used the oil change kits because they are so convenient and they provide everything you need. The only thing I do in addition to using the oil change kit is I use magnets on my oil filter to help trap any ferrous metal that may be circulating.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Brian. I went into the dealer near me in 2014 to buy my bike and they treated me like crap. I walked out and don't ever want to go back there. I went to another city 3.5 hours away and bought my bike there. So buying Victory oil is not as convenient as simply going to an oil store near me and buying something else. Also I like experimenting with various oils. I keep a log book with the types of oil and how it worked for all my vehicles. I also want to try mixing my own just to see what happens.

    • @brianbeck3628
      @brianbeck3628 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul, thanks for the quick response. I know what you mean about customer service at dealerships, that is why I try to avoid taking my motorcycles (or cars) to them for service unless I absolutely have to. The best price I have found for the Victory kit is $61 on line which is cheaper than the dealerships. Here in the U.S. The shipping is usually free. Even at that price, I am sure you are doing your oil changes for a lower price and I am a big fan of Wix filters.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also use WIX filters because they are readily available at Benson Auto Parts here in Canada, but the Shell T6 is very expensive so I usually take a bike ride to Ogdensburg NY and buy it there at Wal-Mart, but I am now going to try the Shell T4 that is a better price near me. It's just easier for me.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, you can put back in 20W40 oil with no problems. Use oil that has a JASO-MA rating listed. This is meant for wet clutches that motorcycles use. Thanks for watching.

      Hi Francesco, I am not sure of what types of oil you have available in Italy. I would use a good name brand, semi-synthetic oil that has JASO-MA labeled on it. This means it can be used on motorcycles. For me in Canada, I use Shell Rotella brand oil. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    Paul,
    I bought a 2015 Victory CCT while out at Sturgis this year. I traded in my old 2007 Yamaha Royalstar Venture (which was water-cooled) My issue with this bike is heat. This Victory puts out a lot of heat. It comes right up through the seat. I've put foil-backed insulation under the seat and tried saddle heat shields, but I want to know why it gets so hot and fix that problem (I have read that the motor runs very lean due to EPA emission requirements). Did yours get really hot and if so, what did you do about it? Many have suggested a Power Commander 5 fuel controller and a timing gear. I saw your video on installing the timing gear. was that due to the heat problem?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rex Swenson Hey Rex, I installed my timing gear to get better low end torque and smooth out the ride. To cool the engine a bit I disconnected my oxygen sensors (see my video about that). I believe (your views may vary) that it made my engine run cooler. I have no scientific proof, it is just how I feel about it. Of course on the other hand, we do have a 106ci air cooled engine that is sitting between our legs... it is going to get hot. I also found that opening the lower air vents only about an inch helps pull away the heat. I don't have any heat shields, I run all day and there are times it can get warm, but nothing that makes me uncomfortable. There is no right or wrong answer here, you are just going to have to experiment a bit. Good luck.

    • @rexswenson6351
      @rexswenson6351 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Pomerleau Thanks very much for getting back to me so quickly. I will let you know of the Power Commander-5 (PC-V) helps with the heat issue.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never had any clutch slippage and I have used T6 since the very first oil change back in 2014. I will be switching over to the T4 version on my next oil change just to try it out.

    Paul, Victory calls for 20w40 semi synthetic, but I can't find that weight in any shops in Ontario. Do you use the same weight or have you gone to something close?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it's hard to find those exact numbers. The first number is the winter weight and since I don't ride in the winter temperatures I am not too concerned about it. Currently I use Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic 5W40 oil. The summer weight (40) is the same as what Victory calls for so it works for me. I am actually going to be trying other brands and even mixing my own blends to see how it works.

    Paul, can you list exactly what kind of Rotella Oil you used in this video? Do you buy the Rotella Oil from Wal-Mart? Where do you get it from? How does your bike shift with Rotella? Is the tranny loud and clunky... or is it quieter than the Vic Oil? What is the part number of the WIX filter and where do you get it from? I live in Canada, like you... so I'm sure I should be able to find these items. I also wonder if you have any desire to install LED lights mounted off the lower fairing chrome bar? Some of the things I want to do this Winter include some of the things you've done, so keep up the good videos. They are very informative.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dean Simpson Hi Dean, In this video I used Shell Rotella T Triple Protection oil and the WIX-51356. I buy the filter from Benson Auto Parts in Ottawa for $9.99.
      I haven't really found a favorite oil for the Victory yet. My Triumph really likes the Shell Rotella T6 so that is the oil that I use now in both bikes just to keep it simple.
      I buy the T6 synthetic oil in 1 gallon jugs from Wal-Mart in New York State because it is half the price from here in Canada. I take my bike on a nice sunny day and take the 1 hour ride there, pick up a few jugs and ride back, so I always have some for when I need it. So far the Victory or Shell oils have not quietened the Victory tranny any.
      I am interested in adding extra lighting to the front, I just don't know what I want yet, so for now the bike is good the way it is.

    • @deansimpson1381
      @deansimpson1381 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Pomerleau , Paul, I figured that Wal-Mart would be the cheapest place to buy Shell Oil. I don't live close to the USA border to be able to get the deals that you can. Anyways, it's still probably cheaper than buying the Victory Oil Change kits. I have two Victory bikes, so doing two oil changes, can add up. The Victory Oil Change kits over here in Edmonton are 75 dollars (CAN) each... so 150 dollars (CAN) for two bikes. OMG. As for the filters, how did you know to cross-reference the WIX brand to a Victory brand of Oil Filter? If I don't have access to WIX, what other brands would work? Do you know of a link that cross-references Oil Filters? Thanks for your help.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dean Simpson Go to this website: www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html near the bottom where it says "Spin on oil filters" Victory uses table #5 where you can see the WIX 51356 filter and all the compatible types that go with it. This has been of great use to me with my bikes. Carry this with you at all times so you will know what filter to get depending on where you are.

    • @deansimpson1381
      @deansimpson1381 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Pomerleau ... I just noticed that you are using a longer filter than OEM. It says in that link of yours that the WIX 51356 filter is about 3.25 inches long. How much more Oil do you need to add to make up for it?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dean Simpson I have never really measured the amount of oil that I put in to that degree. A longer filter would have more surface area of paper inside so the extra amount of oil would be negligible. I usually pour in 3/4 of a jug, run it for 20 seconds, then let it sit for a couple of minutes, check the level then add the rest. Usually in my bike it takes exactly one jug that I pick up at Wal-Mart in new york, so it is 1 gallon, which is convenient. I have never had to add more oil in it between changes.

    What’s a good site to get parts for Victory’s?

      There are a few out there, mostly in the States.
      Being from Canada I have not tried most of them so I can't say how good or bad they are:

      Here is the link:
      I originally made it for my Triumph but it is strong enough to work with my 900 pound cruiser.

    Thanks for the video. Unrelated question though, how did you make your turn table so it don’t buckle under the weight of the Cct?
    I made one my self and it works great for my smaller bikes but my cct one move a inch on it. Mine looks just like yours as well

      I made it originally for my Triumph. 2" angle iron frame and a 2"x10" plank. You can see the video here:

    so what is the deal with a magnetic oil drain plug? purpose for being magnetic?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The idea is to capture any metal particles flowing in the oil. I know the filter will do this as well but this way you can inspect the magnet during an oil change to see if there is anything in the oil that will warn you of a bigger problem that might happen soon.
      I have personally never seen any particles on the magnets during oil changes but I guess it is an extra level of protection for piece of mind.

      Paul, I can't seem to find one of those magnetic drain plugs here in utah; where did you pick up yours?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought it from Witch Doctors in the States. But I wouldn't do it again, it is very expensive for what you get.
