Meal Kit Supply sells them directly from their website (see the description in the video for the site). They sell them by the case of 12, smaller MREs in a case of 6 and they also sell some of them individually. It's not the cheapest, but they do (at least as of this moment) have free shipping.
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but no, I'm not currently in the military (used to be a long time ago). Genuine MREs are not supposed to be sold commercially, but these Meal Kit Supply ones are civilian ones that are legal to buy and sell. I find it tough to find real fresh genuine MREs.
Yes, they apparently had these specially made for their MREs. Not sure if anyone else uses them or if they're available from anywhere else. It's an interesting variation. And, yes, a "Something" might work even better!
These FRHs are designed to be used this way (wrapped around the entree), but Meal Kit Supply is the only company I know of that uses them. Most commercial MREs that contain FRHs use the same ones as the genuine MREs.
No, I don't think anyone's asked that before. I just use a tripod that I try to angle in a way that shows the product the best. I sometimes bump into it if I have to reach around it (and end up editing that stuff out).
I believe they keep their peak heat level for about 15-20 minutes. They remain hot quite a bit longer than that, but the temperature lowers as the elements exhaust themselves.
That's a good question. I've never thought about what I would include in an MRE instead of what's already there. I'm not really sure. They're pretty good as is. The first thing I can think of is maybe replacing the spoon with a spork. I know that's not much of a change, but it's all I can think of at the moment.
I'll have to try putting an entree directly in the FRH. Since it's larger than the genuine MRE ones it seems like pouches would fit in better. I do like the fact that the pouches don't come out all wet when you do the wrap-around method.
As far as I know genuine MREs still have the same old FRHs in them. I've only seen these new ones in Meal Kit Supply's MREs. Not sure if they're in others or not. Meal Kit Supply also sells these FRHs separately.
I've always enjoyed the Cocoa Beverage Powder, but I agree that it doesn't seem to make enough. Six ounces of water isn't all that much. You can add more, but then run the risk of watering it down too much.
agree with you on the blandness of these mres, also, i have been cooking mine right in the heater as opposed to their recommended way - wasn't having the best of luck heating up 2 components beyond mildly warm...
I've never had Ovaltine, but I would say it's more like one of those type drinks than a Carnation Instant Breakfast. Meal Kit Supply sells by the case and also individually. I believe most commercial MREs can be bought either way, though it's probably most common to find them by the case.
The Pop Tart was really just fine. I think that when they put it in the military packaging they do such a good job of vacuum sealing it that it squeezes the Pop Tart and forces the filling to seep to the outside.
Just found your channel. There is something very soothing about the reviews. Not sure if it's your voice, or the relaxed tempo. Anyways thanks for making these vids.
It's funny, despite the topic, I always jump when I see a new video posted in my inbox. These are pretty fun to watch, and I think I'm going to buy a case based on your reviews.
The pop tart scared me a little!! I also noticed (mostly from your vids) that the cocoa beverage gives you at better a sip, at first I wasn't sure if it was just too little beverage or if the mug that was too big. They should definetly increase the amount of powder on future MRE's. Great video as always!!
None that I'm aware of. But maybe Meal Kit Supply ones will end up on a secondary market (like eBay or Amazon) at some point. Since they're already pretty expensive they'd probably end up being even more pricey on those sites.
Nothing wrong with getting an extra for "free"! Glad you're making videos of them. I haven't had the two-course meals from Meal Kit Supply so it will be good to see what they're like.
Wrapping the main meal with the heater didn't work for me-I used a much bigger rock than that & it rolls off after the heating starts getting hot,no matter what I did that alway's happens. Seen a vid for ever safe MRE's & they put the meal in the heater & stuff it back in the box. I tried it that way & it worked a little better & didn't need a giant rock just propped it up at a 40% Angle. By Meal Supply company the single entree type, man I'm so thirsty after eating their meals that beverage is not enough to wash it all down. Good quality product but I hate those heaters,my food is never hot.
I suppose that I really should try heating it up one of these times. It's just that, in general, I don't drink hot beverages (like coffee or tea), so I kind of prefer it cold--it's kind of like chocolate milk.
MOst civilian MREs are just fine. For the most part they don't have as much in them as genuine ones and the accessory packs are pretty flimsy (but how many matchbooks do you need anyway?). Whatever works best for your needs and wallet. I guess I prefer the genuine ones if I can get my hands on them reasonably.
I don't drink coffee. I know it would be more complete of a video if I did that, but I just never really think about it. There is one video where I make and try to heat up the coffee. I'll try to do it again in the future.
Tough question. None of them are "fine dining" of course, but I pretty much like almost all of them. My least favorite of all time was the Cheese and Veggie Omelet. Of course they haven't made those for a few years. Not sure what my least favorite current one would be. I'll have to think about it.
I was really pretty surprised that they were so bland--especially since they have bacon in them. The salt and pepper definitely added enough flavor to make them at least "just fine". I would imagine that some hot sauce (for people who like hot sauce) would do the trick too.
A lot of people do indeed use the "fake" stuff, but I think it's mainly because it's a lot cheaper. We can definitely get pure maple syrup, it just costs more. And I would imagine you're right about this using the cheap stuff. I can't imagine the government paying for all-natural maple syrup in something that's supposed to last for years of storage.
That should be interesting. Sounds like your dad is a good sport. It will be interesting to see how much he feels they've improved since he had them last. Have you showed him the videos I made about comparing a modern MRE to one from 1986?
I hope you (and your parents) enjoy them. Is it the box of six from Meal Kit Supply? They are cheaper, but remember that they also don;t have as much in them (they call them "two-course" meals as opposed to the "three-course" ones like this one). The same stuff, just not as much of it.
Accessory pack and some TP as well. Didn't get snack bread(that came separate from the MRE) nor did we get pop tarts. I can also speak to C-rats/K-rats. Everything came in cans so having a P-38 already was a MUST. I do regret that the C-rats I had were the Korea era ones that came without a pack of Lucky Strike's and lighter.
Great review. I'm looking into buying a case or too of MRE's. I'm not looking to buy a lot of them because of the expense so I would like to get the best ones for my money.
From 1-10? I guess if we were saying 1-10 for an MRE (in which the best MRE ever would rate a 10) then this would probably be around a 6 or 7. Would have been a solid 7 if the hash browns were tastier.
I think natural syrup last longer then the fake one and a can on pure maple syrup depending on when in the season you buy it(because later in the harvest trees produce a more sugary one witch cost 28$) You can pay 18 to 10 Bucks from the farmer. The fake syrup is made whit candy making ingredient so I think using fake one adds more calories I think and more of a sugary taste to it.
There have been some revamps to the milspec MREs since I separated from the Army so I noticed the differences. You just about always got a tiny bottle of Tobasco brand red sauce in ypur
"Fake" might be too strong of a word. We can certainly get genuine, 100% maple syrup, but a lot of the stuff commercially available has a lot of other stuff (high fructose corn syrup...) in it.
Yeah I have to say that MRE was pretty darn good when I had it. After eating a number of military MREs I have to say I think if Meal Kit Supply MREs had 2 menu boxes (at least) and were a bit cheaper id take them over military MREs any day, mostly due to the freshness of them.
Well, I've heard of the C ration (Think I got that name wrong, not sure), used during the vietnam war. And i think one of those, the soldiers said the Ham and cheese was the worse one.
Yes, this one was pretty sweet, but you're right about the oatmeal one. There really wasn't ANYTHING in that one that wasn't sweet. The blandness of the hash browns in this one sort of balance out some of the sweetness.
I've been really looking into getting some MREs, I've watched all your videos and they are awesome! But I cannot decide between civilian ones like the one in this video, or genuine military MREs, i've also been looking into French RCIRs and the similar Soviet MRE?
Unfortunately I don't really have any good information about where/how to get French Rations. The only one I've ever had was given to me by a subscriber. Sorry.
If anyone has a question please send a message and I would be happy to share little tricks we had. Btw, the coco powder makes a tasty quick energy snack for those who might not drink it because of its size. RANGER cookies.
the cocoa drink...does it taste like an ovaltine or more like a carnation instant breakfast? Also do you know of a place that sells these individually or do u gotta buy the whole damn pallet like u did?
Great video! Thanks to you I just received my case of MREs from Meal Kit Supply company. Pork Sausage is next on the list to try. That company should pay you a commission! Did you happen to try that other favorite campfire meal while you we're
It's a pretty good amount of "stuff". A genuine MRE might have just a little bit more than this, but I think that Meal Kit Supply really is the closest thing to the "real thing" out there right now.
Believe it or not, I haven't had the mashed potatoes yet. But i can imagine how bland and boring they are. The hash browns were surprisingly bland, but at least they do have good texture and the bacon mixed in. It was fine with a little salt and pepper.
Are there any "Civilian MRE's" that contain about the same amount as real MRE's AND are available in Europe? Because the Meal Kit Supply ones seem to be only available in US and Canada :/
Are all the Meal Kit Supply MRE heaters the "wrap around" style vs putting into type? And maybe instead of putting a rock on it, next time just use a "Something". :)
I was hoping that the hashbrowns with bacon would be the best part (I love hashbrowns personally) but I've been done wrong so many times by MRE mashed potatoes. That's the only MRE component I haven't liked. Are those hashbrowns comparable to the mashed potatoes? If you've had them, I mean.
how do you have your camera set up? That is something I have always wondered. Are you just reaching around a tripod, do you have a camera/hat combo? Not sure if this is something you've answered before.
Good question. If they only had a hot beverage bag in there. It would be easier enough to mix it up in there, take out as much air as possible and wrap the FRH around the bag.
Meal Kit Supply sells them directly from their website (see the description in the video for the site). They sell them by the case of 12, smaller MREs in a case of 6 and they also sell some of them individually. It's not the cheapest, but they do (at least as of this moment) have free shipping.

I like that ration heater as opposed to the regular MRE heater and looks like it did a better job.
I'll have to try putting an entree directly in the FRH. Since it's larger than the genuine MRE ones it seems like pouches would fit in better. I do like the fact that the pouches don't come out all wet when you do the wrap-around method.

I really like this mre stuff but its so damn expensive. My usual microwave food Is less than half the price.
agree with you on the blandness of these mres, also, i have been cooking mine right in the heater as opposed to their recommended way - wasn't having the best of luck heating up 2 components beyond mildly warm...

I haven't really decided yet. They both work well. I'm sure one is marginally better than the other, but I have to try out a few more of the MKS ones.
The pop tart scared me a little!! I'm digging ur channel. Thanks for the reviews on these. They actually look good!

I will do that one too, but not sure when I'll be able to get around to it.
I suppose that I really should try heating it up one of these times. It's just that, in general, I don't drink hot beverages (like coffee or tea), so I kind of prefer it cold--it's kind of like chocolate milk.
TH-cam declined the video? That sounds odd.
You do the best reviews on TH-cam keep up the good work
Love the grape jelly ingredients:Corn syrup, High fructose corn syrup lol.
Yes, we have gray squirrels, red squirrels, flying squirrels and chipmunks (there might be others too).
I don't drink coffee. I know it would be more complete of a video if I did that, but I just never really think about it. There is one video where I make and try to heat up the coffee. I'll try to do it again in the future.

Yeah, that's the problem with trying to get international rations. They're either expensive to buy, expensive to ship, or both.
i heard that you can keep them for 30-40 years if you lay them below 10c that is about 50degrees
That should be interesting. Sounds like your dad is a good sport. It will be interesting to see how much he feels they've improved since he had them last. Have you showed him the videos I made about comparing a modern MRE to one from 1986?

No, most don't seem to.
I've seen a handful on eBay, but they are about $30 or so and the shipping is insane too.
I like these videos, I have no idea why...they give me some sort of peace.
Sounds like a good idea. If you do I hope you enjoy it.
This is just the way I've always done these videos. I figure the videos are about the MREs, not about me.
Accessory pack and some TP as well. Didn't get snack bread(that came separate from the MRE) nor did we get pop tarts. I can also speak to C-rats/K-rats. Great review. I'm looking into buying a case or too of MRE's. I'm not looking to buy a lot of them because of the expense so I would like to get the best ones for my money.
i must say, that's the most appealing looking patty i've seen in an mre
Oh, and the French ones are great if you can find them. Haven't had the Soviet ones.
i believe the wheat snack bread is basically the most imporant part of the meal.. densely compacted carbs
From 1-10? I guess if we were saying 1-10 for an MRE (in which the best MRE ever would rate a 10) then this would probably be around a 6 or 7. Would have been a solid 7 if the hash browns were tastier.
Your videos make me happy and I have no ideas why
Very good video as always I Tried to do a mre review but TH-cam declined it and it was so good I wasn't talking half the time.
I think natural syrup last longer then the fake one and a can on pure maple syrup depending on when in the season you buy it(because later in the harvest trees produce a more sugary one witch cost 28$) You can pay 18 to 10 Bucks from the farmer.

Ahhh, i remember having MREs when I used to be in a cadets program. Hash browns and bacon were a highly sought after good.
It felt like I was watching a MsSpy review with this review being outdoors and the editing jumpcuts.
Which is not a bad thing!
this mre came with almost the same stuff i got in mine, my review will come out soon but the audio got messed up so i have to fix it
Yeah I have to say that MRE was pretty darn good when I had it. After eating a number of military MREs I have to say I think if Meal Kit Supply MREs had 2 menu boxes (at least) and were a bit cheaper id take them over military MREs any day, mostly due to the freshness of them.

All very good points.
i think the reason why the pop tart was so skiny cus a regular pop tart pack comes with two pop tarts
I just watched a man eating while I just ate..... What am I doing with my life? XD
I'm pretty sure that's what we're all doing here bro. lol
XD yup, still doing it!
the cocoa drink...does it taste like an ovaltine or more like a carnation instant breakfast? Also do you know of a place that sells these individually or do u gotta buy the whole damn pallet like u did?
Great video! Thanks to you I just received my case of MREs from Meal Kit Supply company. Pork Sausage is next on the list to try. That company should pay you a commission! Did you happen to try that other favorite campfire meal while you we're
Did the salt/pepper aid in the flavor of the hash browns? Or still remained bland?
It's a pretty good amount of "stuff". A genuine MRE might have just a little bit more than this, but I think that Meal Kit Supply really is the closest thing to the "real thing" out there right now.
That mini foodgasm at 7:55 you legend
Nice. Hope you enjoy them!
Believe it or not, I haven't had the mashed potatoes yet. But i can imagine how bland and boring they are. The hash browns were surprisingly bland, but at least they do have good texture and the bacon mixed in. It was fine with a little salt and pepper.
Yes but will it blend? That is the question.
You have so many MRE reviews, do you have a ranking of the best tasting somewhere?
And put a (rock or something) on top as a weight lol also do you feel that the meal kit supply frh works better then the actual military frh?
could u recomend a place to get the french rations
IDK if I ever asked it before, but are civilian heaters intended to be wraparounds (as opposed to slide-in), or is it just more convenient that way?
Are there any "Civilian MRE's" that contain about the same amount as real MRE's AND are available in Europe? Because the Meal Kit Supply ones seem to be only available in US and Canada :/
well when there is no more food that is not expired this food can go for almost 40 years
Are all the Meal Kit Supply MRE heaters the "wrap around" style vs putting into type? And maybe instead of putting a rock on it, next time just use a "Something". :)
Stupid question but how long do these last until they go bad?....i figured 5-6 years or so...
where could u recommend we could get the french ration
When are you uploding more videos ?
I was hoping that the hashbrowns with bacon would be the best part (I love hashbrowns personally) but I've been done wrong so many times by MRE mashed potatoes. That's the only MRE component I haven't liked. Are those hashbrowns comparable to the mashed potatoes? If you've had them, I mean.
Whats the different's from civian and miltaty
He doesn't record it.
how do you have your camera set up? That is something I have always wondered. Are you just reaching around a tripod, do you have a camera/hat combo? Not sure if this is something you've answered before.
how come you don t try the gum in pack you should do that
He's stated he's not a coffee drinker in other videos.
Where can i get cheap but military issued MRE's?
I was a little terrified that the rock in the thumbnail was the food.
Are you gonna review the other MCW you got in the mail anytime soon?
Yes, I always do. I just don't film it. Figure that, beyond the review, people aren't going to watch ten additional minutes of me stuffing my face.
How would you make coffee with the MKS Heater??
Good question. If they only had a hot beverage bag in there. It would be easier enough to mix it up in there, take out as much air as possible and wrap the FRH around the bag.
Is there anyway you can send me one of these mre I wanna try one
Is there a reason that the food is bland with no Salt?
How long do the heaters last once activated?
Question, if you had to give a number for this MRE what number whould that be?
