Every time I see one of these in my sub box, it's like Christmas. Thank you schultz. Seriously. This channel is so informative. Plus it makes me hungry as heck.
Glad you got the package OK....and thanks for doing the side by side comparison. The two spoons isn't a mistrake (sic) on somebody's part as each of the MREs that I've ripped apart from that case has had the two spoons. Why? No idea! I was however surprised by the FRH! The others from that same case had the larger Meal Kit Supply FRH in them. Weird. CP140405
gschultz9 Just out of curiosity, I opened up one of the last two MREs from that case. It had the two spoons and the Sopakco FRH. I did some poking around in the "junk" cupboard... and I goofed up when it comes to the FRH... I have several of the Sopakco ones and a bunch of newer ones from a pack of extra FRH's I purchased last year... apparently I was thinking of the newer ones ( Sorry about that ). I also took a few photos... I don't do video! The link to the photos is here.... www.flickr.com/photos/cp140/sets/72157648501531372/
gschultz9 Well as a Canadian I knew what the cheap white plastic spoon included with the coffee pack was for rate away. It's just for stirring the coffee, that's it. In part because we may want to stir the coffee more than once throughout drinking it to redistribute the sugar and we wouldn't want trace amounts of the coffee or food that are on the spoon to get mixed in with the other. At least with my experience growing up on the east coast, which is an unique culture in Canada, it's pretty common to see people who are drinking coffee or tea made at home to leave the tea spoon in the mug either the whole time or it's always in and out, it's more common with older generations though. If a MRE also included say a pudding or something like that for dessert, doubtful any do, which would require eating with a utensil then it would probably have it's own spoon too, unless they cut costs. If we had to use the same utensil for everything most would eat or stir one item then wash it and move to the next item, or at least wipe it down with paper towel or a napkin, cheap plastic spoon or not. I hope this helps, I saw that it was quite a mystery with the 2 spoons so I thought I'd clear it up. By the way, if you ever get any Canadian IMP's, they are pretty much all really good except for anything with egg, at least in the 90's anyways. The egg omelette looked like squished brains and the smell was so strong and putrid that just one would stink out a camp and linger, might even have several people vomiting from it at the same time, really. One guy who actually liked it would always be forced to take it off others and some would sit far away from him. People were actually fearful to see if their breakfast package had the dreadful omelette. The pouch it was in was often buried or burned because the smell wouldn't go away. So long story short, be leary of the omelette if you ever get one. The Beans and Wieners one was the best and when I could I ate that 3 times a day. I'll stop typing now, lol. Subbed.
the only MRE I've ever eaten was maple flavored pork sausage patty and I gotta say I loved it!.. hell I cook for a living and sometimes make high end food and I loved this sausage patty :P
If you haven't tried the vegetable manicotti, you should... It's very good, as well as the penne pasta. They would be two of my favs if I had to choose three.
The outer bag seems to be that way because french is an official language in Canada so they have to have some french translation on it, and they probably didn't want to translate everything, so they put the basic minimum. Even the "open here" at the top of the bag is badly translated, their french retranslated in english would be "opened here"
CaptainChirpa Thank you Captain. It's pretty amazing and humbling to think that nearly 20,000 people have subscribed to my channel! I don't know exactly why they've chosen to do so, but I'm very happy that they did!
gschultz9 i think it's 20.000 people trying to fill their hunger by watching food videos on youtube xD i'm one of them, and your MRE vid looks really good so... subscribe
i take two MRE's to school each day and i bring the maple sausage for breakfast and for lunch is the spicy pulled buffalo chicken and its a whole lot better than our school food XD
Hey Schultz, if someone were to offer you 3 different MREs (present/past) of your choice to trade for your cookies with pan coated chocolate discs which would you take? or would you keep the cookies?
CypherRCX Ha Ha, that's a good question. In all honesty, I don't find the "Cookies With Pan Coated Chocolate Discs" better than many of the other desserts/snacks--I just LOVE the name!
gschultz9 Tbh they are just cookies with M&M's nothing SUPER special, now if we were talking about the chocolate covered cookie bar, that is a whole different story. My main question was if you had to pick your top 3 MRE, (whether present or past) which were your favourite?. The "I would eat this anytime" kind of MRE, not the ones you saved all your hot sauces to wolf it down.
I've been asked what my favorite MRE is many, many times since I've been making these videos. I have never really been able to say which ones are the best. I mostly like them all. I will say that I recently tried the Chicken with Tomatoes and Feta recently and really enjoyed the flavor of it. I'll have to continue to ponder the qu
gschultz9 Sorry, that got posted before I finished typing. I'll have to continue to ponder the question. Part of what makes it difficult is that they keep improving and changing the menus and I haven't tried EVERYTHING. There's still a few I want to try out.
one thing i wish that Kelloggs would do with the boxes of pop tarts that you get in the store would do, is instead of packaging 2 in a foil packet, only put on in like they do with the MRE's (when they leave them in the retail packaging)
Looks like a tasty breakfast. If a soldier was on operations, would they be issued with 3 MRE's per 24hr period? When I was a soldier (UK) the ration pack was designed to last the 24hr period. The FRH is a great piece of kit, I used some in the mid '90's while on operations in Northern Ireland. Love watching the video's, have you tried any UK rations?
I am a bit confused... do the companies (e.g. Sopakco) actually produce the MREs or just put everything together in a package? On the Sopakco website, it says: "MREs are manufactured with products that are government-furnished and are not owned by SOPAKCO Packaging and thus are ONLY FOR THE U.S. MILITARY."? Does this mean the meals themselfes are produced by the goverment ?
That's not what the problem is with customs. When we in Europe order stuff from North America we pay 20% of the declared value plus fees. They don't really care what's inside. Pluse the insane shipping. If shipping was better we'd order way more in the US. We pay the 20% anyway when we buy something here
You could solve the problem of not having a container for the coffee by mixing it with the cocoa beverage powder and have a delicious drink as a result.
these cost about $11 each plus tax and shipping and you have to buy 12 ($129 total) so i would only buy these for something like emergency food on a sail boat or something
Which one of the big three companies is the easyist to work with? And will any of them let you to some extent cherry pick the meals? There's 3 in one case and 4 in the other I detest with a passion. Cheers!
Not to be too picky, but a "napkin" is a nice, white linen/cloth thing that can be laundered and used again.... a "serviette" is a cheap and nasty paper thing that is a use once and discard item. Edit: Correct spelling mistrake.
I just bought very my first MRE ..I climbed to the top of a mountain to eat it ..It was the MKS Canadian sausage & hashbrowns ..it was a total fail ..I got ripped off ..the heater was missing :( ..I'm never buying MKS again
That's a shame. For the most part I've always had good experiences with MKS (other than the old heaters they used to put in that rarely worked). But bad experience like that would certainly turn me off from a company. You might want to let their customer service know about your issues.
P G Seriously?!?! You looked at the food on BC Ferries?!? ICK! I live in BC and have been aboard the ferries more times than I care to remember... unless it's a bag of chips and a diet Coke, I'm not eating it!
I was in New Orleans when katrina hit, and i don't know why but i always liked eating the wheat snack breads out of the civ mres then again i was like 6
MRE's, for me are like watching a train wreck. They are terrible, but I just can't look away. I have eaten thousands of them in the military. They make me sick just looking at them, yet.... I watch! Ha ha An interesting note.... I live on the back side of Ft. Benning and hike the training grounds several times a week. I find MREs all the time. Typically, I just leave them..lol My hat off to you sir! you can have mine!
Bama JAF Thank you Bama JAF. I went to Basic at Ft. Benning WAYYY back when! So you find MREs just lying on the ground when you go on your hikes? That's crazy! I'm sure a lot of people around here who are interested in trying out MREs (but haven't been able to find any or can't afford the shipping costs) will be disheartened by that story. Thank you for sharing though!
gschultz9 I once found a sandbag with FIVE MREs in it. Ha ha.. Poor Ranger recruit must of lost it during the night. I don't hike the "trails", usually blazing my own. My largest find was what was left of a Sherman tank. I also found what was left of a helicopter. Benning has lots of square miles of woods, like I'm sure you know if you trained here. It's fun seeing the history. :) Per Fort regulations - All items you find must stay where they are, if that makes your readers happy. Also... I am retired (Have an ID card) so, I would not suggest just anyone start walking through a military base. There are many restricted areas which could lead a person into serious trouble.
Haha, this reminded me of anti gun campaigners. 'Why does anyone need military style food? Nobody needs a first strike rations that has over 3 meals per day! This unhealthy food is killing my children!' All jokes aside another great video, as always.
Peter Ferrie Ha Ha, that would be funny! Kiwi Dude has already written "Rock or Something" on his preferred MRE rock, so I suppose that's already been done!
That's how u know he ain't a coffee person cuz I would have put the coffee mix in then the hot water then the rest just saying.but other than that it waz good
Brebre You got me. I know it's "just instant coffee", but I always feel out of my element when I make some for videos. It's something millions of people do every day, but it's just not something I'm familiar with.
Some are high in fat however, they are extremely high in protein and other nutrients. They have a lot of fat to fill up soldiers on the field for 1 or 2 days depending on if they have time to eat another ration
Jayman2800 I understand people have to eat them when nothing better is around, but aren't these bad for you to constantly eat and make videos reviewing them?
Aaron M IF you are eating them 3 meals a day every day its not good for you, but thats the same with every food. And Gshultz isn't eating them _Everyday_ He eats them about 3 times a month as far as I know , if he were eating them every day we would be getting 1 video every day.
Jayman2800 Yea I get what you're saying but something like this even 3 times a month just doesn't sound good. However, people eat worse, for example, roman noodles.
Aaron M I will repeat, he does not eat them every day.... If you eat candy every day is it good for you? No, if you eat candy once or twice a month, is it gonna have a severe effect? No
Surprisingly, this is the first time I've gotten a complaint about the tray. I know it's not necessarily the most attractive color, but this is the tray I've been using since I started reviewing almost seven years ago. It's as much a part of the channel as I am, so it won't be going anywhere. I know a lot of people have come along recently and use the metal trays that Steve1989 uses. That's fine, but I'm not going to change to try to be like everyone else. I've been here for a while now.
Every time I see one of these in my sub box, it's like Christmas. Thank you schultz. Seriously. This channel is so informative.
Plus it makes me hungry as heck.
CitizenRare Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it very much.
I always have some food by me when I look at these videos xD!
dude, i dunno why but i find your MRE reviews really soothing to watch lol
I always enjoy eating ramen noodles while watching these videos, Good content, as always.
Its too hard to watch these without something to eat xD
HA, same here. Whenever i see one of his vids i get myself a pack of ramen and go for it. It's become somewhat of a tradition now. :)
Same here, always like to grab a bite when I watch. Funny.
Glad you got the package OK....and thanks for doing the side by side comparison.

CP140405
CP140405 Hmm, very strange on both the two spoons thing and the FRH mystery. Either way, thank you VERY much for sending it along to me to check out!
Well, having two spoons might not be too bad if you use one for the food and one for stirring your drinks! :P
gschultz9

My 5 year old son loves watching the "soldier dinners." Thanks for posting these. (=
I do to :D
I like to mix the coco & coffee together, way better tasting. And sometimes I leave the sugar out. That way it's not to sweet. Another great review!
that's a great idea, sort of a mocha-latte
Dan Hayami yes, a good treat for sure.
Great vid. I always thought Meal Kit Supply MRE's from Canada were the same as American MKS MRE's.
LimeGuy36 they are
Cool! I just ordered a 12 pack from them and some various other survival items. They ship out from BC in Canada.
great job as usual mr. schultz

Ive had the US accessory bag and Meal Kit supply FRH in the Canadian civie ones from Meal Kit

"That's what she said" I couldn't stop laughing for like 10 minutes HAHAHA 😂😂😂😂😂
Omg! I remember eating these for breakfast at our FTX's!!
Memories!
i take two MRE's to school each day and i bring the maple sausage for breakfast and for lunch is the spicy pulled buffalo chicken and its a whole lot better than our school food XD
you must buy a pallet at a time?
Freddy Fazbear the suasage patty was greasier then an italians hair though!!

BadassBuffalo Thank you!
I love watching these. I still prefer the XMRE over all others but these don't look too shabby.

once again a wonderful vid thanks man
Have you ever tried an Mre from Argentina? Military rations are not for sale but the civilian is really good.
oh nice ive always thought of buying one of these us military mre's but as u've mentioned, shipping $$ is pretty pricey to ship up here ;)
I'd definitely check out Meal Kit Supply... shipping is quite reasonable to most of Canada (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut are more $$ of course)
Your supposed to knead the jam before you open it.

@gshultz9 where do you get most of the MREs ?
I love MREs. My fave is the maple flavor pork sausage patty

I have a serious question: Are you never feeling sick from eating those rations?
Not a conspiracy theory please lol
SteinerArts Not so far.
My dad use to eat these and he said they weren't that great. are they good?
what if you dont have a rock or something?
Not to worry, my friend. Even nothing is 'something'. You'll always have something.
=)
+THE DRUNK COOK True my friend :D
+ida kejlstrup
Nice catch on the word play.
Merry Christmas!
There is one other difference. In the USA kit you get a napkin, but in the Canadian kit you get a serviette.
Big, big difference, huge! :D
Not to be too picky, but a "napkin" is a nice, white linen/cloth thing that can be laundered and used again.... a "serviette" is a cheap and nasty paper thing that is a use once and discard item.
Edit: Correct spelling mistrake.
Where do you buy your mres?
where do you buy MREs
is there a dutch site of the mre?
i would like to try some
or can you sell me some?
check on Ebay
Yea i say some there but really expensive
Funny. I live canada and when I last ordered mres they sent me the u.s style ones. Didn't know there was an Canadian one.
How do I get these?
I just bought very my first MRE ..I climbed to the top of a mountain to eat it ..It was the MKS Canadian sausage & hashbrowns ..it was a total fail ..I got ripped off ..the heater was missing :( ..I'm never buying MKS again

i'v had to eat a maple pork sausage patty cold and its defiantly better even slightly warmed
what happens if u overfill the heater?
Water spatters everywhere and makes a mess.
Review the Canadian IMP!
GreatBigRanz I'd love to. Hopefully one of these days I'll get a chance to do exactly that!
gschultz9
Not sure about them, but read these guys sell surplus IMPs....
www.aasurplus.ca/surplus/product/419-canadian-military-mres-imps
Thank you Filip!
What about the sausage the Canadian is maple flavoured were American isn't
5:25 "maple flavor," oh Canada!
ALMOST 20,000 SUBS
Ok now over 20,000 Subs good job
If it's from Canada why doesn't it have poutine?
That's stereotypical.
All the Ferry Vending Machines in British Columbia had Salmon Salad Sandwiches. That would be a nice MRE Entree?
I think the salmon would rot unless it's dried.... But idk if that would taste good in a sandwich..... Hmmm mixed thoughts.....
P G Seriously?!?! You looked at the food on BC Ferries?!? ICK! I live in BC and have been aboard the ferries more times than I care to remember... unless it's a bag of chips and a diet Coke, I'm not eating it!
I wonder what makes these so interesting... like my friends see me watching it and go wtf? but great vids
So that where public school lunch comes from!
No soldier fuel? That sucks..
I was in New Orleans when katrina hit, and i don't know why but i always liked eating the wheat snack breads out of the civ mres then again i was like 6
You're amazing!(:
Hey we have the same watch lol!
ripoff prices $15.87 Canadian each ..not including shipping
wouldn't it be funny if he had mistaken the salt for the sugar
I like the meal kit supply maple sausage menu better then the US #17 maple sausage MRE. More breakfast items in the MKS menu.
Tragic Hero About the only thing I miss from the genuine that this doesn't have was the MAple Muffin Top. Sweet!
gschultz9 The maple syrup looked pretty weak, did it taste ok? I'm disappointed the Cdn IMP didn't have better looking maple syrup/flavour in it.
wow i had the same mre

have you ever thought about engraving that rock with the words " ROCK OR SOMETHING"
Peter Ferrie Ha Ha, that would be funny! Kiwi Dude has already written "Rock or Something" on his preferred MRE rock, so I suppose that's already been done!
For a moment, I thought this was gonna be a Canadian IMP review.
Jaybird196 I wish. Believe me, if I get my hands on an IMP I'll definitely review it!
gschultz9 Well then, I wish you luck in laying hands on one. I think it could interesting :) . As ration reviews go on YT, they're kinda rare.
gschultz9 I'll see if I can find one
What if this guy is really HowToBasic
YheFox I think the videos would be a LOT messier. ...And include many eggs being broken.
There's also the fact that HowToBasic is Australian...

the US version has more F R E E D O M .

Looks like Spam Ham
I always find your utensils to be very depressing.
I would use a different color tray if I were you people will probably like your videos more that hospital green is unappetizing and gross
