      JUST GOT THE UPDATE ON THE PIXELS BUD PRO ... THE FIVE-BAND EQ... I TESTED IT OUT AND IT DOES PUSH OUT A LOT OF BASS👍

  • @JohnLGalt_1
    @JohnLGalt_1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    Hey, Brandon, always appreciate your candor and the extensive testing that you do. I got the Buds Pro and was as underwhelmed by them upon first use, but the new firmware did fix quite a few issues I had run into - and as an added bonus, when paired with my Windows 11 computer, with a licensed copy of Dolby ATMOS audio, was able to make use of ATMOS through the Buds Pro. With that being said, listening to your tests, the Buds A had a thinner bass line in every track I listened to, the Pros always had a more robust, full bass line, especially with the reverb of really low end parts of the tracks. I never changed anything at all, leaving the Buds Pro connected to the PC and ATMOS enabled, and I then went back and listened to the songs again using my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, and I distinctly heard the same difference.
    That being said, I have to say these are the most comfortable buds I've used, I've kept them in for 7+ hours during a workday, connecting to all my meetings and listening to music in between. Other idiosyncrasies, though, as you noted, like certain frequencies coming through even with ANC enabled, as well as the feedback loop when grabbing the Buds in the correct manner, to the lack of filtering out noises through the mic, to even a weird bug I had where all calls were single channel (whichever bud went in first) are 100% spot on. And yet, even then, the ANC is so good I never knew I needed it until I used my Novas for the first time, and now that my other issues are out of the way, and with the ability to use ATMOS and custom EQ in the ATMOS app, I'm happy with them overall. I do hope there will continue to be more improvements, though.

    • @ThisIsTechToday
      @ThisIsTechToday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The battery life and comfort is definitely a big strength for these, yes! I’ll have to look into the Atomos option you’re talking about. That’s interesting.

    Don't make the same mistake as me. I've been using the Sony XM3 for over 3 years and then the right ear suddenly won't charge fully and I get only 20 minutes out of it. I saw that the Pixels Buds Pro was $40 off on BestBuy Canada and it also had better rating than the Sony XM5 and on top of that I watched Marquees Browlee's review of it then was sold on purchasing it. Big mistake. The sound quality isn't nearly as good as the Sony XM3. And now I realized BestBuy Canada changed their policy few years back on used headphones and won't accept them (even though BestBuy USA still allows it). What gives!

    I'm not an audio engineering not an audiophile or qualified in any way whatsoever. I've had the Galaxy buds first gen, Sony WF-XM3 and first gen airpods pro. I switched from iPhone 13 pro Max to Pixel 7 pro and got the Pixel Buds Pro as well. They are good enough but no where near the quality of the airpods pro in terms of making calls, noise cancellation, sound and touch controls. They are outclassed in every way possible. I find the pixel buds Pro good enough to listen to music at home but hate going out with them in public, constantly having to put out an earbud when I'm talking to people or having to pull out my phone, having to go to Bluetooth settings and hit another settings buttons because for some reason Google thought it was a good idea for the pixel buds not to have a standalone app. The fit is not as good as the airpods pro either despite the ear check seal setting thing. They really are a 5/10 and that's being generous.

    Ty for all the work you do--always learn a great deal from your vids. In the video it looks like you are playing your music files from local storage directly on your phone. As TH-cam music is often a pain to use, and I have my entire audio library saved to my PC in FLAC or MP3--with the intent of transferring all of my music files over to my Pixel 6 Pro XL--could you recommend the very best audio player app to play locally saved music files? Would you recommend listening to music on your phone this way and do you yourself prefer this method of listening to music over streaming services?

    May I suggest you use a more rubbery/slightly jelly medium next time as your conduit as they tend to mimic the ear canal better. Low frequencies should be better transmitted to the mics that way. And I'm also curious about your microphones frequency response.

  • @AshleyGittins

    Damn, that is one fine review! Loved how you direct-recorded the buds to compare - my only feedback on that is that changing sources on the hits made it harder for me to judge what was due to the buds and what was just the mix/arrangement evolving - minor complaint, though :-) I did wonder if the tube affects the recording quality but I trust you'd only be sharing it if it matched what you were hearing.
    To my ears it sounded like the stereo image was being affected a lot by both buds, with the highs being really wide on both, and the upper mids on the A's seemed a bit scooped, but were more forward and narrow on the pro's (I'm listening on closed-back wired phones, plus all the youtube encoding along the way). Did you get that as well? I figure at least part of that will be down to the bluetooth codec as well.
    I was pretty close to ordering the pro's but after hearing these tests I'm not sure I'd be happy with either, really. So huge thanks for such an in-depth and unbiased review that lets us draw our own conclusions. I might stick with this pair of AU$30 buds I picked up - they're a tenth of the price but don't sound too much worse - although their ANC is probably nowhere near as good as the pro's. Do you offer stems of your tests (I'm guessing maybe in the members' section)?
    Anyway, awesome review and appreciate the technical depth and openness.

    • @ThisIsTechToday
      @ThisIsTechToday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah, the tubes aren't creating an issue that I can hear, only when there's nothing into it and your speaking into it does it sound "tubey" haha. Yes, the Pro's definitely have a narrower sound stage, which is unfortunate.

    I just got mine and I started back to backing them with my soundcores on Dave Brubeck Take Five. I find it much better to demo non electronic music. There seems to be some high end roll off in the Pixels. The cymbals in T5 are way more subdued and less in your face. The Pixels do sound less congested. The bass strings lose some of their sizzle vibrating on the fingerboard. The Pixels also seem better dynamically. The have a much stronger attack on cose miced bass drums. The Pixels remind me of listening to a vintage tube amp that rolls off. I generally agree with the review, good job. The high end roll off doesn't bother me as much probably because my ears are old.

  • @KingBeevr
    @KingBeevr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Listening to this video on my PBAs. Honestly I like the sound of the Pro better. It adds a bit to the high end and mids without losing any low end. That said, the PBAs still sound great and I love mine and I'd hate to give up the great olive color.
    But with the exception of a quiet outdoor setting, the mic on the Pro sounds like trash compared to the PBAs.
    I never owned the PB2s so I don't miss the wireless charging or the swipe gestures (though I know I'd appreciate them).

    Wow, I've never seen so much effort put into an earbud review before, and I have to say that you've really shaken my decision about buying the Pros. I too was really disappointed by their sound compared to the A series, but I'm so used to having volume adjustment on my previous earbuds - the left side of which died 🙁 - that not having it would be a step back. I have the Samsung S22 Ultra. I am using the Samsung message app to send text messages. When I send a text message to someone I get the visual notification, "Delivered" under the text message, to let me know, the message was delivered. But at the same time I also get an audio sound WITH the visual notification to let me know the text was sent. I get the sound that is the default sound that is under the “sounds and vibration under the “notification sound”. I do NOT want to get an audio sound after I send the text message. I only want to see the visual notification, "Delivered", to let me know, the message was delivered. How do I stop the audio sound, when I send text messages? I also disabled the option “hear outgoing message sounds” under the general settings.

    Great content! I'm only asking this because you ARE a sound engineer. I've tried watching/listening to your videos on 2 different sets of headphones. Some of your plosives are coming through rather aggressively in my opinion. Is this an issue with my headphones (and/or my headphone settings)? the worst thing apple ever did was remove the headphone jack, which spiraled us into years of this insanity paying $200-$300+ for garbage earbuds we need to recharge when we couldve spent $50-$70 in 2016 and got actually good wired earbuds with good microphones. We live in the worst timeline. ----- I think we forget to zoom out sometimes and just get so sucked into the reality we're in and forget that we've had significantly better wired earbuds for 15+ yrs. Also, listen again to the microphone portion of this, this microphon audio is absolute trash, but we forget about that because all other bluetooth earbud mics are also trash. insanity.
