Let me say that this was a very fun experiment to try a different type of scrub. I said over and over again throughout the video how much I enjoyed the texture of working with the silica and that it was a good recipe. The MAIN reason I won't be changing up my own recipe is cost. That silica is wicked expensive. Also, because I do outdoor events 4 months out of the year, in extreme heat, I need something that can withstand that. I don't think the silica scrub will do that based on my stability testing. I've had some snarky comments here saying that I'm criticizing Tara and/or her product. Not true. I did a comparison of hers to mine because I was truly considering changing my recipe. But due to the facts that I just stated above, it's just not possible. Let me be clear, I admire and respect Tara and that's why for the past 2 years, I've had on my home page in the section entitled "Experts in the field of Bath Bombs, SoapMaking, Skincare"....Tara's channel, along with several other makers that I admire/respect.

This was a very cool experiment using Silica Dimethyl Silylate. I've never worked with it before, it's a really nice texture but costly.

This was really neat to watch! I haven't made sugar scrubs yet, but yours after a week look much more appealing to me.
I just have to compliment you - I truly love watching your videos and how you do things. You always have all the right tools right there and are ready to go where as I always feel like I'm chasing down a spatula, a bowl, or a measuring spoon 😂
I appreciate you sharing this! It gives me a lot to think about when I go forth into scrubs.

Scrubs are SO incredibly easy, don't be afraid to try. I am editing the video of MY version of Tree Hut's Scrub right now. I've been making it for years and my customers can't get enough of them. They're a very good seller for me. Stay tuned.....thanks for being here 🥰

@@TheSoapChef my issue always is packaging. I have so many ideas and then get stuck. I would love a more eco-friendly refill for stuff like this, but the MOQ is so high (that I have been able to locate).
I'm just going to have to let that dream go and just start making things and trust my customers to be responsible enough to recycle.

Cool video. Love Tara Lee! Do your customers prefer your tree hut version better or a regular emulsified scrub? I make an emulsified version that I love, but it’s not tree hut style. And, I’ve never tried tree hut. Thanks!

My customers adore this sugar scrub, and can’t get enough of it. I’ve been making and selling it for years.

Gelatinous maybe 🤔 either way I like yours. I love Tara, but expense is real! Now I do like the silica for shimmer oil to help prevent setting

I really did love the texture of the silica, but yes, it is unbelievably expensive and you have to use a lot of it. I have seen many people using the silica to suspend the mica and body oils and I do want to try that.

I wouldn’t trust buying cosmetic ingredients from Aliexpress. I would stick to reputable suppliers in our industry.
