I would ask"why not a boat", enjoy life while you can, it ends before you know it. I have wanted to sail for about 40 years now, put a job, then family first, now my wife is gone, family all on their own and I'm 75 wondering what happened to my sailing. I hope you have a wonderful life, spend the summer knifing through the waves traveling to all the places you want to see. Take care of each other, be safe and live YOUR life to the fullest.
It is never too late John 😊 If we ever cross paths, you are always welcome to sail with us on Teulu, to scratch that itch! Hopefully for the time being you can vivaciously live through our vids and pretend its you in our position 😊
There's a bit of both... Life, yes. But there's a lot of people that come back from a life of "adventure" and find themselves 50 with health problems, out of energy, out of money, no skills, no pension and no assets. It's not gonna be pretty going to work at McDonalds 6 out of 7 days just to be bitched at by 12 year olds and still never retire. Even worse if you're suddenly single, and everyone you knew has a family and is busy but you're alone in your little 1 bedroom with nothing to do on Christmas. I mean, the older I get the more I realise that life is about balance. Relationships, a stable financial situation, but also a fulfilling life all take time and effort, so better make a smart choice and don't neglect any of them. But hey, everyone does themselves.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 all about balance for sure! However, I can say for certain, in the few months we have owned this boat, I have learnt more skills than I have in the last 5 years alone so don’t think we will be short on those! 😊
Becka, you said “Its all just trial and Error” this statement is so true about sailing, just like life. You two are doing awesome. Keep living life to the fullest. Your smile while sailing is infectious.
I bought my first house in 1997, and then massively upgraded to my dream neighborhood in 2000. And then I moved to Las Vegas5 years ago, for another incredible house. I love the land live, with road trips to National Parks in my car, and flying to Europe twice a year. And now I hope I can move up to business class, as I gradually somewhat retire from my dream job in IT. I fixed up my houses, and really enjoyed them. You are doing absolutely the right thing. I need to go off-shore sailing for a few days, but after that I got to get back to my house : ) Love your channel.
Good work both filming and learning to sail. A suggestion. When reducing sail as wind increases, start by reefing the main. On a ketch your main tends to push the boat over more and have less impact on speed and control. After the second reefing in the main, partly furl your headsail. Keep a little of the genoa out for as long as you can safely sail. You might find that sailing jib&jigger (without the main) is the most comfortable in 15 to 25 knot winds. Good luck and fair winds.
No, no, comfort is not what they seek, they've already proven they have ice water in their veins. Hoist the damn main sail and full speed ahead I say!! Argh!! ...⛵
I listened to this episode about four times on my walk this morning because it is a constant thought I have. Not totally happening at my age (63) but there are partial possibilities that help venture away from the 9 to 5 rat race that consumes so many. Now back to episode 66 and I find you confirming all you have done. Amazing.
I'm now addicted to you guys! It seems like all my sailing shows are doing everything but sailing. Which is why I found you. I'm sitting at my cabin in the mountains with my new 14 week old puppy, mentally stowing away on the Tuelu.
Great insight into your guys' mentality at the beginning. Absolutely love the pure sailing content, especially that stern mounted shot facing forward. Watching you guys work the sails and hearing your thought process behind your actions is great, you'll be pros in no time!
You’ll be planning your route out of Plymouth to much more exotic climes In no time at all. Well done both of you, it’s nice to see wise heads on young shoulders, for example, (patience) learning how to work with your particular boat, there is no reason in rushing headlong into a situation you’ll struggle with.

Awesome sail Becka and Zach, I love the part about finding happiness everyday and glad that you are blazing the path that is perfect for you two. Keep it up and much love!
Great video, loved the excitement/terror that comes with sailing those first few times. You guys are doing great. Just remember you're running your own race, don't be afraid to reef early, you can always un do it when your out on the water and see what the winds doing. Your a two man crew on a big heavy yacht. You might find a reef and a partly furled Genoa is comfy for you. It's about sailing her efficiently and safely, not necessarily the fastest from A-B.
You are 100% right! In hindsight, we should have just dropped our main sail and continued on genoa and mizzen but thats ok 😊 We live and we learn. We were also going about 4 knots here, it just felt a lot faster 🤣
I wouldn't justify to others why you do anything. You have one life, live it to the full and do what feels right to you at any given time in your lives. I take my hat off to you and wish i had the guts to live my dream instead of existing with regret. You have each other and a shared dream, what more could you ask for. Plus, look how far you have come, you're a couple of old salts now. WELL DONE
Hhaha, i do sometimes look back at how we were when we first got the boat- i think the word 'intimidated' might spring to mind 🤣 and now we are anchoring and sailing in 17knots and leaving the marina by ourselves and fixing everything! Its sometimes really important to remember how far we have come, instead of dwelling on how far we still have to go!
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed your opening comments. Who are we to judge the choices you are making to be happy. Thanks for inviting us along. Enjoy you boat...err new home!
Yup! Everybodys doing it because real freedom is extremely hard to come by these days.. Dream BIG you two adventurous souls. What you truly seek is also seeking you! Much love. RD
07:36 more halyard tention on the mainsail and remove the saggy bits between the cars. If the wind picks up those cars will get ripped out the mast if there's not enough tension.
SAME! Every time you talk to anyone these days they complain about how they are struggling to pay their bills, how they can't afford to heat the house, how much they have to work and all that jazz. Hell no I'm not living that life! My neighbours at the dock are such chill awesome people and we have a great community. While my "house" friends don't have the time or energy to do anything because they work so much. They all thought I was crazy or dumb for buying a boat, now they are all saying they wish they could live free like that. And they can, but they won't. What I have learned about people since I started my boat journey is that people are just scared. scared to be different, scared to try new things, scared of failing. We've all been diciplined to think that there is only one way to live, I guess we're the lucky one's that managed to break out of that and dare to take a chance! Love your videos :)
Exactly! The sailing community is even lovelier than we could have imagined and we all have the lust for adventure in common so it seems perfect 😊 It is a bit scary going off and doing something like this but we are under the firm opinion that the best things in life come after taking a leap of faith!
What a fabulous narrative. I went straight to deciduous in the dictionary... I have never used it in the way you have ... A super articulation of why do what makes you happy. Be lucky
When I watch a sailing channel like this I don’t think everyone’s going it I think if only I was 20 years younger, but then I wouldn’t have the life I have now I wouldn’t have my grandson. So thank you and all the other channels to taking me back to when I was younger and there’s still time for me to get back on the water and let my grandson get into sailing
I worked in a very high stress, high pressure job. Had trouble sleeping (most nights 2-3 hours sleep) and headaches 24/7. 3years ago I had a mental breakdown and had to stop work. Within 7 days I was sleeping 8 hours a night and the headaches had stopped. Fortunately New Zealand has a very good support system. In September last year I turned 65 and become eligible for a pension. I now live in my caravan full-time (from choice, had other options) and just travel were and when I want. My caravan is perfectly set up for off-grid living.
The smile on your faces says it all ........... go explore, have fun and adventure because there is no time like the present. The rest of life can wait ............
One of my favourite videos. They get better every week. Absolutely Loved your intro. The smiles on your faces are infectious and one can’t help but smile watching this. The sailing looked awesome and exciting, although the sea looked a bit rough for me! 🤣🙌👏
Really loving the videos, takes me back 55 years when l first started. I have had two ketch rigged boats, a Moody 42 and a Nicholson 38. I agree with another post about keeping the genoa up for much longer. One of the benefits of your rig is the multiple sail options. Off the wind in a blow dump the main and keep the other two up. You can reef the genoa so easily with a winch depending on the wind strength. Going up wind the the main and genoa are the two key sails, the mizzen doesn't do much hard on the wind, and don't be afraid to reef early, as keeping upright keeps you moving faster for longer, and is always more comfortable so you two keep happier for longer! You are doing the right thing by practising in a safe place - keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
So glad you are enjoying them Steve 😊 I bet they were wonderful boats. We did realise in hindsight that our genoa should have stayed up longer- but next time the wind picks up we shall try that 😊Thanks so much for the advice!
On a ketch the mizzen is the best sail to balance the boat. Let it in or out to reduce weather helm - the feeling that the rudder wants to go its own way and you have to fight it to stay on course. Should only take one or two fingers when she is balanced to steer. Much easier on the autopilot too. Loved watching you guys sail. Stay safe and have fun😜
Your enthusiasm is infectious! Make a checklist for sailing. Right down to … ‘stow grill pan’. I lost count of the times that beastie flew across the cabin on a starboard tack. Damn thing hides for weeks in it’s little slot…
Glad to see you finally sailed outside the breakwater and into the real sea. Exhilarating, wasn't it! I certainly enjoyed it and watching your big, beaming smile, as you experimented with the sails. I like the change of title, especially as there are now Two of you; not just you, Becka. Looking forward to whatever else you are planning. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
Good job guys! Ketches are definietly different to sail than a sloop, lots more versatility , options for sail config. First reef on a Ketch is typically to drop the main and leave the genoa and mizzen flying. Its a really easy maneover! The boat will stay balanced that way too! BTW the mainsheet is installed upside down! The block with the cam cleat should be installed at the track not the boom. Easy fix, just unshackle and flip it!
Thanks Pierre, yes in hindsight, our main should have come down first! We shall try that next time 😊 doh about the mainsheet- will check that out today, thanks so much!
You guys are a breath of fresh air, your honesty and resilience. Your wealth is growing not necessarily in the monetary sense but in a wealth of experiences. Keep it going!
Joyful to watch ! makes all the maintenance worthwhile I'm sure. Its great to try things when you get the chance../travel as far as you can while you can...as you get older you can still adventure closer to home
So glad for you guys that you have figured it out so early in your lives. Have a blast and live life to the full... you only get one chance. Whatever anyone else thinks is completely irrelevant.
Good job putting her through the paces and getting on the lean. Perfect time to work on your skills with somewhat higher winds without the rain and lightning. When the rain and lightning does come with the higher winds you will be more comfortable with the vessel and know how she handles.
I have just enjoyed some vicarious sailing watching your video. Many thanks and good wishes for your exciting worthwhile life. Comment:- The luff of your mainsail looked a bit slack for 17knts plus wind strength. you may know this already but as the wind strength increases increase the tension on the sail luff (halyard) to pull the flow forward and keep clean air comong off the leach. Looking forward to your next post.
We are glad you enjoyed it Brian! Yes, it was, we are still fiddling with the sails to get everything tensioned in the right place- we will try that next time, thanks! 😊
Hi from Falklands islands 🇫🇰..very true words well said in beginning....love watching url an one othe good reason is cos url buy that boat....I was well tempted along time but then chose different one...keep good vids comeing hopefully us will cross paths
What a beautiful blessing to be able to see the joy on the both of your faces. GGG=‘sGiveGodGlory for such an exciting new chapter In your beautiful young lives. And thank you for taking us along, sharing your amazing Dream come true. PeaceAndLove Lori
If we all did the same thing life would be very boring. Thank you for taking us with you on your adventure. We can live through your lens a life of excitement that we may never get to do. There are also times when you have to do the hard work of maintain that we can also breath a sigh of relief that we did not experience that but are intrigued by your ingenuity to problem solve. Bravo that you are going out and learning. One day an ocean crossing is in the books. Cheers
Well, everyone may be doing it, but those that are, do not project the sincerity, vulnerability and courageousness shown by the two of you. That's what makes your channel unique. If you can, checkout sailing GBU, they were very much like you guys in their beginning. In retrospect you guys are the British version of them. Be well and good sailing.
Watching your videos keeps reinforcing my dream to finally learn how to sail and jump on a boat, it was my favorite past time as a kid, spending time on our boat with my father. Well done, super happy for the both of you! I like your videos so much, I even watch all the ads 😂
Get it done, I envy your youth, health, and your idea of fulfilment. Yesterday I spent two hours of my life stuck on the M25 traffic jam. My health is shot, need high maintenance. From a 60 year old guy. Your doing the right thing.
You guys are so great! I started watching from Belgium as I'm from Swansea originally and found it lovely to see you enjoy Swansea university. I started sailing in Cardiff University because of Sailing la Vagabonde and Zatara and have always dreamed of having a boat of my own someday. Maybe one day I'll do it just like you two! Good luck on the open seas. Becka you're a great story teller. The beginning gave me goosebumps. Screw the "typical" 9-5, it's so outdated xxx
Not sure what your long term voyage goals are but I would recommend a dodger over companion way and if possible over the cockpit. That might be difficult as I notice the boom over the cockpit is quite low. It served to protect you from hot sun and passages where it’s raining hard. When I was sailing at you age I did some voyages on a boat with little protection. It gets you down after a while.
It was very pleasant, watching you enjoy your boat. You'll need plenty of that, getting out and experimenting, what fun! I wonder when you will be taking your first steps over to the Channel Islands, passage planning, getting the tides right - always being able to not go, even when you've planned it for ages, because, you know, sometimes it's better to be looking out at the sea, wishing you were there, than it is looking back at the shoreline, wishing you were there. Anyway, you'll soon be a pair of salty seadogs, at one with that, rather nice, old Colvic, and the absolute best of luck and all happiness to you.
Thanks Andy! Lots of getting out there and experimenting and learning from it all- we would love to go to the Channel Islands this summer if we feel ready 😊
You are quite correct in saying happiness is unique to each individual. The one thing I would caution is to realize happiness lies in enjoying the journey. I believe your smiles and enjoyment we see are real happiness. Never forget that you will NEVER reach a destination of happiness. One day I hope to sail, but if that day never makes it I am OK because I am happy with my choices. And while there are quite a few channels vlogging sailing, van life, bus life, etc. there are also Lenny of people enjoying a short bit of escapism by watching the various creators. I suspect both of you are smart enough to deal with how to make ends meet.
Yessiree…Yer on the “Learning Curve” & Best be Safe, Hone Sailing Skills & Learn…A Ketch is very Popular for Cruisers & would be my Choice…Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy😎
If anything it is a pleasure to see you enjoying the reason why sailing is addictive and everyone thinks about doing it. And seeing this joy is what it is all about, although you feel like you are smashed around and you are just at mercy of mother nature.. But that's why I personally love it, although I get frequently seasick and just envy everybody who doesn't. And it is really nice, how you are handling the lines correctly now (thumbs pointing towards you) MOST of the time (not when handling the mizzen-sheet) ;-) There also a nice trick on "how to winch" correctly, as it is just a question of correct positioning towards (or over) the winch. 🙂
We love the fact we are at the mercy of mother nature- it is very grounding. And we are trying to get into good habits early on- although sometimes its hard 🤣
It is YIUR life. You only life it once. You will find out soon enough life is short. Enjoy it for you. You have already started both with all the traveling & adventures you do, with the boat, but more so with the fact you are only listening to your own hearts and not to others. Enjoy …. Kudos to you
Sailing is the last freedom. The price you pay is to be responsible for everything, with no safety net. Knowing and understanding every part of your boat. But you'll discover the truth of freedom as you do things like sailing down the moon, almost reading by starlit on a moonless and cloudless night far from land, sunset and sunrise, the dolphins and those determined and funny little motorcycle helmet creatures heading who knows where (turtles I think they are called). Both sadness and happiness at the end of a long voyage. If ever you stop learning then that is the time to give up. One day, you'll amaze yourself with how much more you know about the planet, its life, geography and the place of Earth in the Universe. This is a perfect life if you are humble enough to learn from everything. I am grateful to be getting back to it after so long. Well done you two, you make us proud of your inspiring spirit.
Very true Simon- theres been already many biting moments and we haven't even got to the open ocean. However, it has all been worth it- for the freedom, hope and possibility it brings. Excited for all the future lessons to be learnt and world there is to see 😊
I CONGRATSSSSS... YOU FOR YOUR DECISIONS.... I ALSO HAVE THIS DREAM AND HOPE IT WILL BE SOON ACHIVED.... I WISH TO YOU, BECKA & ZACH ALL THE BEST.... FAIR WINDS & MY KIND REGARDS.... 🌷🥂
just a tip, dont worry about when others reef etc, the best thing to do is keep notes in your log, note the speed, angle of heal, any weather helm, wind speed, sea state etc and work out what works best for your boat, when to have what sails up, when to run jib and jigger etc. The reason is boats all reef and sail completely differently, some boats need a reef in at 15 knts and others can run full canvas at 25 kts - also im sure you have heard this before - but if you are not sure, put a reef in, put in in early, the worst experience for any sailor is to be over canvased and having to try and put a reef in when a front catches you off guard. keep up the good job.
Another smashing episode from you both! you should invest in a drone to catch some videos and photos when your out sailing too! Wish you both all the best and see you in the next one!
Thanks! We do have one- its a DJI Mini- which we love but because its small, it doesn't love the wind too much- which is quite essential in sailing 🤣 when we have more money, we shall buy a bigger one and hopefully get more sailing shots!
Have fun and enjoy life . You would find it much easier to learn sail trim with some telltales and learn how to read them which is essentially that when the inside tail and outside tail are equal horizontally you are at your sweet spot with the apparent wind .
Thanks Robert- we have been looking at the tell tales but have been trying to just tweak things constantly to get the best performance possible- however, it sure is a constant learning excercise!
@@TeuluTribe From what I've seen in the video's you don't have telltales in the places you need them . The ultimate goal for longer range sailing is to be able to set it and forget it for as long as possible . Constant tweaking is more for closer quarter sailing and racing .
Wow, that was great. Nice voice-over at the start. Basically, stuff the nay-sayers and do what makes you happy as a person/couple.......Brilliant and nobody can watch this video and say that sailing isn't making you happy 😎. I was smiling all the way through with you. Your confidence is really growing and showing every week and you've even ventured outside of the breakwater. Next goal is a trip around the Eddystone. From what I saw, once you engaged the Autopilot, the wheel hardly moved which means you had the boat balanced beautifully. In fact, because I think you two are such great people, I've joined up to your Patrion account to give you a little extra help 😀. Catch you next week 😄⛵
Glad you could smile with us- it makes the filming and editing all worth it! We have! Taking baby steps when we are comfortable but oh is it amazing when we do! The world is out there 😊 We are figuring out balancing the boat and it is a wonderful feeling when we do. On Sunday, it was very evident we didn't do something right as she kept wanting to turn into wind at every opportunity 🤣 thanks so much for joining as a Patron- that means the world to us and will mean we can get out and see the world even quicker!!
Such perfect statement made for freedom and adventure... for life really. Harmonizing the the wind the sea and all the elements with your desire to sail forward keeps for constant adaptation and grounding for what is now. A point to life that is often forgotten while driving back and forth to work and watching Netflix, or waiting till the weekend that never comes... well said! ...btw. what navigation set up or App you guys use? And what movie editor software? Thank You
Harmonising- the perfect word for sailing! We currently use an old Garmin (which we desperately want to replace!) and Savvy Navvy on an Ipad, which we are loving 😊 and we edit in Final Cut Pro
If you are thinking about reefing, usually you should have already done it. Much easier to shake out a reef than fo put one in earn you are already overpowered. Nice video guys, best of luck. Great to see young people joining the cruising community
I applaud your thinking, to be able to live your dream whilst young enough to truly enjoy it is a wonderful thing. I would have loved to do what you are doing but when I was young in the 1970’s dreams were for when you were sleeping and not for doing! Have you a wish list of places to visit and explore?
Its never too late! Everywhere is on our list really 😉 but in particular, we would love to one day visit the Azores, and the Carribean, French Polynesia- big dreams!!
IT is so great to see you guys having fun. I Believe your mainsheet is upsidedown. The cleats should be on the Cabin top so you kan trim from there and not at the end og the boom. Pladsen correct me if i am wrong. Lov to see you Challenge yourselves.
If it helps, the wind speeds for riffing should be part of the technical manual. Leave your life anyway YOU choose. It will feel you much more than getting to life monotonic rithm (although it can be nice from time to time)... You are yong, and sailing is quite physical, so the timing is perfect...
I would ask"why not a boat", enjoy life while you can, it ends before you know it. That speech at the beginning 👏🏼 so much truth in that! Houses and money isn’t happiness! Being happy is happiness!!
Exactly!!
I bought my first house in 1997, and then massively upgraded to my dream neighborhood in 2000. And then I moved to Las Vegas5 years ago, for another incredible house. Great watching you two learn the ropes. Your innocence and attitude is refreshing. I am laughing along with you but never at you.
Haha you have full permission to laugh at us too- we sure do at times 🤣
I'm now addicted to you guys! It seems like all my sailing shows are doing everything but sailing. Which is why I found you.
I'm sitting at my cabin in the mountains with my new 14 week old puppy, mentally stowing away on the Tuelu.
This looks infinitely enjoyable and free of the drama of "normal' life.
It definitely is not issue free but its issues we choose to have, rather than are forced upon us in a way!
“The other stuff can wait” amen sister amen!
It really can!
I love the transparency and the mistakes! It's great seeing the progress :)
You need more halyard tension. You can depower a sail with more outhaul. Ketches often sail well under headsail and mizzen.
We realised that afterwards so when we went out sailing we hoisted them more and it was far better! Thanks Nick 😊
Seeing your joy brought a tear, life is short and, in the end, only the special moments are remembered. Yvan
Very true- glad you could be here to share the emotions with us 😊
Great insight into your guys' mentality at the beginning. Absolutely love the pure sailing content, especially that stern mounted shot facing forward. Watching you guys work the sails and hearing your thought process behind your actions is great, you'll be pros in no time!

Anyone that says "everyone's doing it now" is prob very jealous of u both .
I know I am. Well done .🙌
Thanks so much 😊
When I was a teenager 40-50 years ago my then Girlfriend and I were friends with a slightly older couple in our sailing club. They had not long purchased their first house. On a visit one day they dropped the bombshell that they were selling the house and were thinking of buying a boat... we thought they were mad. A few years later, as we were settling into our 9 to 5s we would receive postcards from the Mediterranean or wherever... It did not seem so mad then. If I had the chance all over I would do exactly what you two are doing. Life is too short, revel in every second of it!
Cool! Its funny the things like that we remember. Hopefully one day we will be in the Mediterranean, sending postcards to our friends and family!
Awesome work guys. I'm officially now saving for my own boat.
Ah thats so exciting! Let us know when you buy one and we shall cheers to you! And dreams!
Awesome sail Becka and Zach, I love the part about finding happiness everyday and glad that you are blazing the path that is perfect for you two. Keep it up and much love!
Thanks Mark! It was an incredible sail- the first 'proper' one of many, glad you can be here for it 😊
You made the right choice! Enjoy the adventures don't forget to take us along. Much love from the Appalachian mountains!
Will take you along every step of the way, thanks Ralph!
Love watching you guys at sea! I feel like I’m one boat with you, until I can live out the dream too!
We can live it together!! Thanks for being here Juliette 😊

Glad you could be here Alan! 😊
Yup! Everybodys doing it because real freedom is extremely hard to come by these days.. Dream BIG you two adventurous souls. What you truly seek is also seeking you! Much love. RD
'What you truly seek is also seeking you'- i really love that saying. Thanks RD!
07:36 more halyard tention on the mainsail and remove the saggy bits between the cars. If the wind picks up those cars will get ripped out the mast if there's not enough tension.
We realised this watching the footage back so will do that next time, thanks!
20K subs!
i've no doubt this will be just another one of many milestones achieved.
congratulations! and thnx for another dandy show.
Pretty crazy eh! Thanks so much 😊
Kudos to you for figuring this all out while you are actually still young!
Making lots of mistakes but learning so much along the way!
You're doing well. Glad to see you're learning and not jumping out there Ill prepared. Great job.
Trying to prepare as much as possible- although finding out we can never be 100% prepared for the random obstacles sailing throws our way 🤣
I loved your initial speech. I'm 70 years old and I agree with you. Seize the day (or go for it when you can). Live life.
Absolutely!
The smile on your face and the wind in your hair - priceless!
Oh its such a good feeling 😊
@@TeuluTribe .......as are the precious times you share together. That is where true wealth lies. At seventy-two I am qualified to say that. 🍾⛵️🌹
Well done guys, loving the confidence that you are gaining and showing!!
Its coming slowly! Thanks for being here Pete 😊
What a fabulous narrative. I went straight to deciduous in the dictionary...
I have never used it in the way you have ... A super articulation of why do what makes you happy.
Be lucky
Thanks so much 😊
Sail and learn,we did the same in the 80s with two teenage girls. Changed our lives completely. Good luck, and fair winds.
Lots of sailing and lots of learning- bet the girls loved it!
Exactly- theres always time! 😊
Amazing Joy on your face Becka!
Loved every moment of this.
Happy Memorial Day Everyone!
GO HUG A VET!
Happy Memorial Day David 😊
I worked in a very high stress, high pressure job. Had trouble sleeping (most nights 2-3 hours sleep) and headaches 24/7. 3years ago I had a mental breakdown and had to stop work. Within 7 days I was sleeping 8 hours a night and the headaches had stopped. Fortunately New Zealand has a very good support system. In September last year I turned 65 and become eligible for a pension. I now live in my caravan full-time (from choice, had other options) and just travel were and when I want. My caravan is perfectly set up for off-grid living.
Ouch- that sounds rough. Luckily you can now find your bliss in your caravan- it sounds like the perfect 'remedy' for you after long, stressful years!
The smile on your faces says it all ........... go explore, have fun and adventure because there is no time like the present. The rest of life can wait ............
No time like the present! 😊
One of my favourite videos. They get better every week. Absolutely Loved your intro. The smiles on your faces are infectious and one can’t help but smile watching this. The sailing looked awesome and exciting, although the sea looked a bit rough for me! 🤣🙌👏
Thank you so much 🥺 so glad you enjoyed it- haha, you would have been fine 😜 it was a lot of fun!!
Thanks!! 😊
Brilliant view on life and totally get it.
Your enthusiasm is infectious!
Make a checklist for sailing. Right down to … ‘stow grill pan’. I lost count of the times that beastie flew across the cabin on a starboard tack. Damn thing hides for weeks in it’s little slot…
Haha, not the grill pan!! 🤣
Yes! We have been on a few trips now and they just keep getting better! We are SO happy sailing! Thanks Russ 😊
Absolutely Brilliant. Very well said.
Well said becka. Life flies by. Glad to hear that you are going to explore life while you are young and able our health is a timed expectation.
It really does! And we have a whole lot of exploring and living to do before then!!
Thanks Marcus- i feel like we are learning more now than we did during our whole time at school! Life is teaching us so much 😊
@@TeuluTribe I felt and feel the same way 🙂
Joyful to watch ! makes all the maintenance worthwhile I'm sure. Its great to try things when you get the chance../travel as far as you can while you can...as you get older you can still adventure closer to home
We are so glad you enjoyed Richard 😊 It really is!
See you soon! We’ve just done the same with our 3 children and two dogs, pick our boat up in the next couple of weeks! Good Luck to you x
Epic! Congratulations on taking the plunge 😊 See you on the water!
So glad for you guys that you have figured it out so early in your lives. Have a blast and live life to the full... you only get one chance. Whatever anyone else thinks is completely irrelevant.
Thanks so much Nate ☺️
Good job putting her through the paces and getting on the lean. Perfect time to work on your skills with somewhat higher winds without the rain and lightning. When the rain and lightning does come with the higher winds you will be more comfortable with the vessel and know how she handles.
Very true! We shall get as much experience in 'fine' weather as we can and hopefully it will be transferable!
You guys are sailing like pros !! Love that you are wearing your life jackets.. Have fun!
Thanks so much Tim- a lot more to learn but the confidence is building 😊
Hi from Falklands islands 🇫🇰..very true words well said in beginning....love watching url an one othe good reason is cos url buy that boat....I was well tempted along time but then chose different one...keep good vids comeing hopefully us will cross paths

Cheers
Thanks Stephan. Would love to do an ocean crossing on Teulu in the future!
Great videos and I was wondering about sailing myself,, keep up the great work
Thanks Glen!
One size doesn’t fit all! Love it!
It sure doesn't! 😊
What a lovely comment. Will check out sailing GBU, thanks so much for the suggestion! 😊
Watching your videos keeps reinforcing my dream to finally learn how to sail and jump on a boat, it was my favorite past time as a kid, spending time on our boat with my father.
Well done, super happy for the both of you! I like your videos so much, I even watch all the ads 😂
So glad! You really should go for it! Thanks so much. And thanks for watching the ads!! It really does make a difference 😊
Get it done, I envy your youth, health, and your idea of fulfilment. Yesterday I spent two hours of my life stuck on the M25 traffic jam. My health is shot, need high maintenance. From a 60 year old guy. Your doing the right thing.
Ouch- M25 traffic is relentless. Hopefully our vids can bring you a little rest-bite 😊
Your best video to date in my opinion, wishing you great success and looking forward to your adventures!
Thanks Harold 😊 Lots of adventures on the horizon!
Thanks Louise! Oh cool, what kind of boats did you sail with Cardiff University? 😊 You so should! Hopefully see you out on the water someday!
You both should be so proud of yourselves for being unconventional and following your bliss!
Thanks so much Marisa 😊
Just found you guys, looking forward to following your adventures. I also sail out of Plymouth so may see you in the sound one day. Have fun.
Cool, see you on the water!
Its on the list! Just quite expensive at this point 🤣
Super ! Merveilleux votre aventure et les paroles si belles pour ce choix de vie !
Une famille bretonne de France. Hello
Thanks Fabien! 😊
I couldn't agree more -- live life the way you both wish. ⚓💙
Exactly Mark 😊
Very true, there isn't a destination! Wise words there Kirk, live with no regrets 😊
Yessiree…Yer on the “Learning Curve” & Best be Safe, Hone Sailing Skills & Learn…A Ketch is very Popular for Cruisers & would be my Choice…Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy😎
Very much on the learning curve! 😊
And it is really nice, how you are handling the lines correctly now (thumbs pointing towards you) MOST of the time (not when handling the mizzen-sheet) ;-)
There also a nice trick on "how to winch" correctly, as it is just a question of correct positioning towards (or over) the winch.
Enjoy …. Kudos to you
Thanks Thomas- following our heart (and now the wind!) wherever it shall take us 😊
Sailing is the last freedom.
Excited for all the future lessons to be learnt and world there is to see 😊
sorry i have just started to watch i could have been this entertained a long time ago brilliant video you seem to have the knack
Thanks John- we are so glad you can be here for it 😊
Well, I'm convinced. Pick me up in Alameda on Monday.
Haha, we will be there 😆
Love you guys. Enjoy and be safe.
Thanks John! 😊
I CONGRATSSSSS... YOU FOR YOUR DECISIONS.... I ALSO HAVE THIS DREAM AND HOPE IT WILL BE SOON ACHIVED.... I WISH TO YOU, BECKA & ZACH ALL THE BEST.... FAIR WINDS & MY KIND REGARDS.... 🌷🥂
Thanks so much Franco 😊
loved this episode keep living the dream and stay safe
Glad you loved it Matthew! 😊
just a tip, dont worry about when others reef etc, the best thing to do is keep notes in your log, note the speed, angle of heal, any weather helm, wind speed, sea state etc and work out what works best for your boat, when to have what sails up, when to run jib and jigger etc.
Good idea! Putting it in early sounds a wise move- will consider that next time, thanks! 😊
Having a great time is the best part! Keep it up.
It really is! 😊
What a lovely Sunday outing!!!! You two are amazing 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Helen!! It was such a lovely trip! xx
@@TeuluTribe ❤️
Loving yr videos. Could you please add where you are, for the old Devoneons (my father) here in Australia, thanks.
Thanks Andrea! We are in Plymouth 😊
Awesome content , can't wait to see you in Australia !
Would love to one day make it over that way!
If you are thinking about reefing, usually you should have already done it. Much easier to shake out a reef than fo put one in earn you are already overpowered.
Nice video guys, best of luck. Great to see young people joining the cruising community
Thanks so much Jay! That means a lot 😊
Ah! We will look into this, thanks Henrik!
I enjoyed watching that, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed- thanks Thomas 😊
I think we have our new La Vagabond ! Happy to see you both making such great strides with your new (large) monohull. I blame your parents!
Haha thanks! So glad you can be here for it!
If it helps, the wind speeds for riffing should be part of the technical manual. Leave your life anyway YOU choose. It will feel you much more than getting to life monotonic rithm (although it can be nice from time to time)... You are yong, and sailing is quite physical, so the timing is perfect...
Perfect timing! 😊
