Why didn't we fix THIS on our boat sooner?

  • We couldn't sit on this bit of our boat, we always got dirty when touching it or brushing past it, but with guests arriving soon, it was time to once and for all sort it.

    About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit

Good film, Sintra is gorgeous, home to royalty, etc. Beautiful flowers everywhere. I stayed there for a week during the Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril. Went to an amazing restaurant on the coast. Somewhat passed its glory years but alluring all the same. It was built around the base of large aquarium. You sat at your table in subdued orange lighting and gazed through tank windows at the marine life. The place looked like something out of "Once upon a time in Hollywood." I'm now trapped on Nostalgia Boulevard.

Another good video. Sometimes it is difficult to keep in mind that you are living a life of grand luxury, especially when doing boat yoga in a bilge or dealing with old grease. But try to remember, on day seven of a two hour job, just how grand your life really is. You're sailors now. Did you think, while watching waves crash onto rocks sending salt spray meters into the air, that you have been out there in larger waves and even slept while underway in storms?

Hi guys, loving your vlogs, thank you! Re the hatch sliders and a shed-load of other on-deck lubrication applications, instead of using petroleum-based products, do check out XCP Green One. It’s made from vegetable and plant derived bio-based ingredients; it is renewable, sustainable and bio-degradable. It doesn’t stain sails and clothing, and it outperforms WD40, Vaseline and various silicone products. It is supplied in a choice of dispensers …. either aerosols (never sure about those) …. or trigger-operated squirt bottles (which is the option I use on my boat). 😊

See if you can find a big canvas tarp for shade and heat protection as you bake under nylon tarps but canvas is cool. You can coat canvas to help with complete water proof but the work fine if they get wet but struggle in heavy situations. You will never regret them in the heat.

Reminds me of the trips my family took around Southern Spain, back in the late 1950's, whilst we were living in Gibraltar. Cadiz; Seville; Granada and numerous other places. We never got to Cordoba, which is one of the places I still want to visit, as I have an interest in the old Moorish parts of Spain. I love the Moorish architecture. As far as your Bimini having to wait until you can afford it, do either of you know how to use a sewing machine? You can put a cheap temporary one together with PVC tubing or if you can swing it make your own metal frame with fittings, then there are patterns and how to guides online to help with some sunbrella/ottertex fabric. If you can find a used sailrite sewing machine it will always come in handy, but if you are looking for a budget sewing machine that can handle heavy jobs, look for an used Commercial/Industrial Grade sewing machine used. A Singer 4452, a Brother ST371HD, a REX 687, and any of the Janime HD 1000-3000 series machines should be able to handle anything from clothing repair up to heavy canvas work and even light to medium leather work. I have a couple old machines from the late 1800's-1910 that can handle anything I throw at them and be run on a treadle stand or with the electric motor I added to them. But you can save yourselves a fortune if you can sew the Bimini fabric yourselves and either cut the tubing and use connecters, or rent/borrow a welder and weld the frame work yourselves.

If they make it to eBay or some online listing site the people usually want and arm and a leg for them.

No epoxy on the shower bilge? Should have taped the edges with cloth and epoxy. You guys frustrate me with your projects , it seems your not doing your homework. Hope the project works out.

We epoxyed it before painting, we don't show every single step but we spoke about it in a voiceover. It was the brown you could see as we start painting. If we are going to do a job, we research thoroughly and do the job properly 😊

a little bit of carnauba car wax will help the track if it starts binding up on you again. Does not take much just a thin film. Plus it will also help protect the metal parts.
