BTW - if Whatsapp is already installed on the other or new device restore option does not come up - need to fully reinstall (without keeping any info) in the new phone restart the app and it will prompt for restore.

If this still doesnt work. You need to go into your phone's settings > apps > whatsapp > storage, and tap 'clear data' (and 'clear cache' if necessary). You must do this AND THEN uninstall the app again, restart phone and reinstall app. It should work this time

Hi, just bought new phone and i backup my whatsapp chats from my previous phone to google drive about 3 days ago,when i tried to restore the backup chats to my new phone it shows error "no internet connection".1st i used wifi to restore but it shows same error and then change it to mobile data but it still shows the same error. do u have fix for this ?
Did you copy the folder from the old phone Whatsapp folder?
@@123myIT no, there is a backup to Google drive option in WhatsApp setting. I did that. Last year I bought honor 8 and i had no problem restoring the chats but this time when I backup from honor 8 and restore it to my new Samsung phone I'm facing such a problem. And the error so stupid so it's quite hard for me to find out what's the problem is.

With newer versions of Android, does the pictures restore in the right order? Is the date modified date preserved? Previoulsy, restored pictures were in random order in gallery.
my phone google was maxed out and it stopped backing up since June and my whatsapp stop backing up since February then my phone screen broke so now ive made some space the automatic backup would not work. Is there a way to push google to backup from the webpage?
I will forever hate whatsapp for making backups this way. Facebook messenger is infinitely superior because it is backed up to server anyway, and protected simply by changing facebook password, if phone is lost. Here, you need to be careful because you can lose old data or fail to recover new data. Horrible system.

???!!! Hi @122myIT, howcome when you press "RESTORE" it says that its restoring from your internal storage. It even says "not data nees to be downloaded" at the bottom. Since there is no data beeing downloaded its not pulling anything from the google drive cloud.???

Please help, when I opened WhatsApp today it automatically took me to the backup chat page and to select an account, however when I entered my Google email address or phone number it gave me these error messages: "This account already exists on your device". I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Is it just impossible to backup whatsapp to an account already registered to the same device?

you created back up on google drive but when you started whatsapp again, you restored data from internal memory, not from google drive.
Ensure that your new Android device is linked to the Google Account where your backup is saved.
Doesn't work, whatsapp finds the backup in google drive but states 'unable to restore chats from backup' no further explanation is given

right now google haves issues , back up is not working , ( back up now ) button is gray , so u can not do nothing & all active backup are saying ( Waiting to back up ) for days & weeks & months , i have good internet & the wifi is very good .

Install whatsapp on your new phone mate. Then you should be able to restore with the Google account. If not maybe check with Whatsapp support.

At 2:39 it shows that the backup was on Google Drive at 1:54pm yet the time on your phone reflects as 4:03pm.
At 3:35 the message is that it is restoring from the phone's internal storage. Why is that?

If I make a backup on google drive, then I delete all my WhatsApp photos and videos on my phone and then I make a new backup on the drive, the previous backup will be overwritten by the new one, losing all the photos and videos of the backup?

I login into my WhatsApp from new device but I didn't get the restore option. I have logged into the gmail drive. I have tried this multiple times. I have checked the WhatsApp backup is available in the drive, but I'm unbale to download it on the device or restore it.

If you haven't wiped your old phone there should still be a local copy of the WhatsApp on that phone. You just have to move it to your new phone. Do you still have your old phone?

Never say never, but it would be hard because they would need the phone number to restore the WhatsApp. And normally you would only have that on the phone.

Hi I realized that I didn’t iCloud back up my WhatsApp videos on my old phone, I then downloaded WhatsApp on my new iPhone and all my videos come up as blurred images that have not been installed/were never backed up. Can I reopen WhatsApp on my old phone to get full access to all original files (videos) or by making the transfer to the new iPhone I am no longer able to see those videos again?

Hi, so i Got a problem. I'm trying to restore my chats whit another number but idk why even if it says that i have 455 mb of data saved it still doesn't recover the chats, but recover only the ones i started whit the new number. i tried to contact whatsapp support but they just said they tried to send me via sms the verification code which i can't receive because my old number expired and i really don't want to risk to mess up the backup i have. I could go to a phone repair shop to see if they can solve the problem which i'll prob do but i wanted to know if you may know what's the problem or a solution. I've been also searching on google a lot but i can't seem to solve it myself.
You can try dude but whatsapp is attached to your number. That seems to be the issue here.

2. I take a back up of my whatsapp on google drive
3. Now I go to Canada and get a new number XXXX1211
4. install whatsapp , verify canada number
5. Will the messages from previous number 8193 get restored on 1211 ? using the same google account ?
You need to use same number. It won work two different numbers.

Uninstall and reinstall the app then dont skip? Make sure you don't do a backup over the backed up whatsapp messages.

If you can find the whatsapp directory on the phone. You can copy that across.
