    Have my grandpas 2401B made in 1984 (a year younger than me😂)that needs a new cord.. ordered a 14/3 only to find out it's a 16/2 so i ordered the correct one. I plan on throwing on a cutoff wheel and use it for metal. I have a 7 1/4 sliding Kobalt miter saw for wood so this will bring new life to the Makita.
    It works great except the casing on the cord is cracked to pieces and the twine i insulation shows. Thing weighs a ton man...
    I wish there were videos on changing out the cord but I did cord swap an old Makita hammer drill before successfully.

    I have the same saw, I inherited it from my Father who bought it new. He used it for building houses for decades.

    Why didn't you take apart the rotating bed? You cleaned 3/4 of the chop saw

    Great video, well done old chap, 6 people dislike this? Why? Just a personal thought, the background "music" is rather distracting and totally unnecessary , but what do I know!

      @@the8point511 Will do. You might try soaking rusty parts in apple cider vinegar overnight. Rust comes right off from the acid.

    Good work there mate, just picked up of these myself, but damned if I can remove the bolt holding the blade. Is it a left hand thread, ie. to undo it, you turn it clockwise?

    • @the8point511
      @the8point511  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +David Jewell that’s correct. It’s reverse thread. If it’s old and been on there for a while give it a shot of WD40 too!

    i have the same saw. its pretty beat up and im looking to give it new life. the swivel is so hard to more from 0 - 45 degrees, any tips on how to fix the problem? WD-40 ? or is there something better ?

    • @the8point511
      @the8point511  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Brodie Bauer this one wasn’t too bad. But I got a lot of that penetrating oil between the rotating circular piece and the rest of the base. SOAK it like crazy. I would recommend trying to break it free without the motor mounted. Maybe a piece of hardwood in the blade relief slot and a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet and go at it easy. Once it breaks free, just soak it more to keep it lubed up for life. Good luck and thanks for checking out the video👍

    • @anapando3449
      @anapando3449 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@the8point511 Once you break it free and soak it with WD40 how do you put the darn thing back on????? I think and I am not sure when I took it apart there was a ball bearing. Dumb question was it part of the saw or did it just magically appear???? UGH

    • @the8point511
      @the8point511  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anapando3449 I didn’t take the whole base off. I just got it moving and that WD40 kept it moving. You should be able to put it back together the way it came apart.

      @ana pando 1 year late I'm sure you figured it out but yes underneath the saw is a Allen screw and inside is a spring and ball bearing. It located underneath the swivel handle.

    I had this exact saw, and I "restored" it. Took care of all the replaceables, cleaned it up, got her running very well!.... and a few cuts later.... while running the blade came loose off the arbor and shot into the guard. I couldnt figure out what caused it and short of a new arbor ($$$), it became too dangerous and not worth my time to use. Hopefully yours isn't doing this, just it isnt always "neglect" when tools are discarded, there can be serious structural or safety reasons for it.

    • @the8point511
      @the8point511  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      JgHaverty wow. Sorry to hear that happened with your saw. I’ve been using mine quite often and seems to be holding up very well. I do always check those items before starting things up. Safety is paramount.

      @@anapando3449 I always make sure to keep my tools well maintained and in good working order so dangerous failures don’t occur. Safety always comes first. If your saw is too dangerous to run, buy a new one or have a professional look at it.

    Calling it a restoration is a stretch. It’s more of a cleaning. There was no testing and refurbishing of the saw motor’s drive assembly. A clean saw isn’t any better if the saw can’t cut accurately.

    • @the8point511
      @the8point511  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate the feedback. The motor didn’t require restoration as you can see in the video. The base and the fence required restoration and recalibration of the fence.
