  • Thanks to Jacob Lippincott for the request! I hope I did the game justice. I also have this nagging feeling someone requested this a while ago but I apparently never made a note of it, which is very unlike me, so apologies if you did and I didn't credit you for the request! I scoured my comments and messages but to no avail - sorry! :( I feel shame.
    Also, I rarely plug this, but if you would like to support this channel, please feel free to check out my Patreon: patreon.com/idonthaveanose
    This month I'm taking a look at a game based on one of Disney's few stinkers - Chicken Little. It looks good from a distance, but sadly this game is no spring chicken.
    In fact, it's pretty damn difficult! The controls are awkward and while the level design is fairly neat at times, it becomes a little repetitive towards the end. That said, it's not the worst movie tie-in, and is nonetheless enjoyable on the whole. Will it prove to be a good egg? I don't have high hopes.

    The yo-yo was, I'll admit, a pretty clever reference to the original short from 1943. Chicken Little carried a yo-yo everywhere with him. Also, spoiler alert, everyone dies at the end of the short. Yeah, this story is really dark.

      Kind of, for me! Such a game for me would be Malice for PS2. The game is not great, but actually far from bad. It has really interesting stuff and good music, kind of having the style of a fairy tale gone wrong with the main villain being a nuclear-powered Dog God that has an army of Crow people dressed in WW-inspired uniforms at his command, and environments like the inside workings of a gigantic clock, the base of the Crow army, a big and kind of colorful cave entered by being shrunk by a witch's potion, and giant sewers.
      There is interesting stuff in Malice, but sadly it didn't end up being what they developers had in mind. The game was stuck in development hell for about six years, with the project having started multiple times over. The company wasn't doing too great and a few months before they went belly-up, a publisher called Mud Duck Studios published the "game" - though it was more of a collection of finished assets, just to get it done for the sake of it. Which i think is a really big pity.
      I would love to see such games getting a second chance, and being able to live up to their potential.

      I believe you mentioned Kya before, did you not? And it's funny you should mention Haven. I never played it but I've known about it for a long time- it's one of those that's been on my to-play list for a while. As for the soundtrack, correct me if I'm mistaken but I seem to remember the people responsible for the music were also responsible for the A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2 PS1 game soundtracks... I think.
      As a side note, A Bug's Life has a seriously high quality and memorable soundtrack imo, and Toy Story 2 was also really varied.
      After this current batch of videos, I'll have a little time to play some of these.

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so as well. I went looking through a bunch of your videos to see if my comment about Kya was somewhere in there, but I couldn't find it. Yet i'm sure that I did talk to you about it before... and probably pretty extensively at that, seeing as i'm probably the biggest Kya fan around. In fact, I think I was asking about how you felt in regards to combat in 3D platformers.
      I see! That's funny to hear :) To be honest, i don't know about that. I've never looked up the OST of A Bug's Life or Toy Story 2 myself, but I can guarantee you that Haven's music is very different from those other two
      I shall have to look the OST of those games up. Thank you for the recommendation!
      Until the time comes for Haven, Kya and Malice, i shall be looking forward to your other videos and wishing you fun with those as well :)
      Also, I would like to make you known with a few other 3D platformers for the PS2 that could be quite interesting:
      Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer, a game based on Native American culture and mythology, though i'm not sure how culturally accurate it is.
      Gift/GIFT, a REALLY ugly and weird game that does have a bunch of interesting mechanics, like manipulation of light and darkness. For example, shooting a Light projectile at an enemy's shadow to nail the shadow to that spot, and the enemy with it. I feel like that mechanic could be very interesting!
      Herdy Gerdy, a 3D puzzle platformer with a Disney-esque art style about herding various kinds of animals to their correct pens that all react differently to each other. The only two reviews of them that I have seen are of B-Mask's and ChannelJAL, both great reviews on the game, but i think you could do a very interesting video on that game as well.
      Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles, a kind of Alice in Wonderland story with a very dark and unsettling art style and beautiful if not grim music at times and pretty unique environments, but the actual gameplay seems to leave something to be desired from what I know of it.
      The Tak (and the Power of Juju) trilogy as well as Tak: Guardians of Gross, a pretty good series of 3D platformers (at least, the first three) of a Nickelodeon series that has quite a bit going for it.
      Legend of Kay, a game in an ancient China-based setting with anthropomorphic animals and a focus on combat. The voice acting's pretty bad, the story feels like it's missing something and you can't replay any levels, but from what I know and have playedof it there are some fun things about the game, the controls are good, there's quite a bit of exploration to be done and the game overall looks nice.
      The Maximo games. 3D action platformers by Capcom that kind of act as a spiritual successor to the Ghosts n Goblins series with the first one being though as nails and the second one being shorter, but also more fair. A third installment was planned, but it sadly never came to that. Which is a big pity as the game looked like it was going to be the biggest and most ambitious out of them all!
      And finally, SPhinx and the Cursed Mummy. I think you might be familiar with this game though, seeing as how it recently got ported to the Switch and hopefully became a bit more known as a result of that.

    Ahhhh.... Chicken Little the video game...... I bought this game at a closing Hollywood Movies rental shop back in the day.... It's decent. More fun than the movie.
    "Chicken Little", "Meet the Robinsons", and "Bolt" were all proof that the Disney writers became lazy. It wasn't the Cel animation that became obsolete.
    Too bad American Cel Animated films are never coming back due to children preferring shiny CGI over the apparently "Dull and flat" Cel Animation.
    .....Instead of "Ping Pong the Pig"..... Hows about "Peg the Pig"?.... Works on two levels....
    Either way, you still got dibs on that damn Pig (I know exactly what you do with that pig at night, under the covers............... You plan on serving pigs in a blanket and baking him in the old conventional oven, aren't you?!?!)
    Anyways, one thing about the game I both loved and hated was the fact that they included heavy head physics on Chicken Little. It makes sense since he has a big head.... But it applies an akward sense of ice sliding physics to the game that makes it a bit difficult to get used to.....though one can argue that Abigail the Ugly Duckling somehow had the same ice physics when walking around her levels.
    Also excellent video game review as always, "I Don't Have A Nose And Yet I Must Sneeze Reviews".

    • @idonthaveanose
      @idonthaveanose  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Though I must severely disagree about Meet the Robinsons. I have a major soft spot for that movie (and its accompanying game too). I always appreciated the story and the message. It was far less meandering than Chicken Little. Bolt wasn't too bad either imo, though it pales in comparison to the movies that succeeded it. The Bolt game, however... Mehhh. Now that WAS lazy.
      The heavy head physics was pretty much what I was trying to convey when I was talking about awkward stiff controls, and difficulty picking up speed. I feel like it's intentional and in that sense 'realistic', but it doesn't make the gameplay all that enjoyable. Even so, I still think the game is worth a look and far from the worst movie game.
      Thanks for watching and commenting as always!

    • @RamsTheNameCom
      @RamsTheNameCom 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@idonthaveanose "Meet the Robinsons" did have a great message behind the film, not gonna lie. But the overall journey to the message (or in otherwords, the in between) absolutely sucked. It felt like they were trying throw a lot of movement and quick editing to entertain a child. It seemed like the guy who scripted "Disney's Home on the Range" wrote the script for "Meet the Robbinsons" and a Pixar director came up with the plot/message.
      Bolt was a forgettable film scene by scene wise. Though the plot was easy to remember, something like "Dog actor believes he is a hero in real life, looses track of owner, goes on a journey to find owner, and does this why coming to terms that he has no powers".

    • @idonthaveanose
      @idonthaveanose  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still appreciate Meet the Robinsons though. I don't think it's a bad movie myself. Far from one of the best, and the ending is a little rushed, I feel. But I do enjoy it. Also Rob Thomas performed the closing song Little Wonders which I've always liked.
      Bolt is... okay. I think it's good. Not great but good. I don't have many issues with it really but it is derivative of a few other Disney movies, I feel - including Pixar's Toy Story. He's almost like the dog version of Buzz Lightyear in a way.
