When my son was about 5 years old, he would watch Tales From Crypt with me. At first he was really scared of the Crypt Keeper until I explained to him that he was just a puppet. He would then always say “you don’t scare me because your not real”. I have so many great memories of him watching it with me. He actually really got into horror movies at a really young age and would always be stealing my VHS horror movies so he could watch them in his room. He’s now 32 years old and is still into horror movies. I can’t believe how long it has been since we would watch Tales From The Crypt together. Thank you so very much Minty for bringing those memories back to me 👍

The Crypt Keeper would scare me as a kid too but my parents would laugh as I would hide under the blankets. It wasn't until I was a little older that I watched Demon Night and I enjoyed it

F-zero91maru he really got into the collection of horror movies I had when he was around 8 years old and was never afraid of any of them. He and I have a lot in common and even like the same kind of music. I hate that he lives so far away from me with his fiancé and his son and will also be a step dad to her other 2 daughters. Hopefully I will get to see them again one day but I don’t know what is the plan concerning the virus and political issues. Thank you so much for your reply and I hope you have a wonderful and blessed evening 🙏

F-zero91maru bless you for your kind words. I’m actually going to turn 52 next month. I had my son when I was 18 years old. So he and I pretty much grew up together. I’m so grateful that I have 3 grown children that grew up into 3 great adults. I live with my middle child and my other daughter lives about 8 hours away from me. My other two always check up with me a couple times a week and I’m just glad that I’m living with one of my kids. Thank you so much for your reply 👍

    • @sassykaren7587

F-zero91maru I at least live with my middle child (daughter) and I was always closer to her then my other two kids but I still gave my other kids a lot of attention. I feel like I raised my kids right because I lived with my mom and all 3 of my kids and she was the best mom I ever knew. I wish she was still here today so that she could see her great grandsons. She would be spoiling them rotten. I just hope that she is watching all of us from heaven and is doing her best to keep us close and safe. Thank you so much for your reply and I hope you have a wonderful and blessed day 🙏

The family friend who took me shopping there was totally mortified that this cute little blonde girl only wanted the Freddy doll. He tried to convince me to buy ANYTHING else, but I only had eyes for Freddy. He was MORTIFIED that I was buying a doll of a freaky movie child killer.
I was ECSTATIC!! He pulled my mom aside and said, "Laura, I'm worried about your daughter..." my mom laughed at him and said it was okay that it's just what i'm really into, horror. Haha

Oh, man, I LOVED THIS SHOW as a kid in the late 90s when the reruns were on The Sci-Fi Channel! Fortunately a handful of people have uploaded a ton of the episodes so I can revisit and it's just as great now as it was then:) My absolute FAVORITE part was that amazing opening, I ALWAYS wanted to go through that house and down those steps into that crypt to hang out with The Cryptkeeper! He's ICKIS, one of my childhood loves:) All of my favorite episodes happen to be in season 5 too, especially the one about his PARENTS, that was actually the cutest ending I'd ever seen, and of course the Tim Curry vehicle...but by FAR my top episode is All Through the House for its crew ALONE. Directed by Back to the Future, written by The Monster Squad, and produced by The Goonies!! The fact that Robert Zemeckis and Fred Dekker totally worked together BLOWS MY MIND now that I've gotten to fall in love with The Monster Squad and already loved Back to the Future for years! Man oh man, this is such a great "Who's who?" show, SO creative with all of the different directors, writers, and actors getting to contribute their talents and it has just the right amount of disturbing but you can have so much FUN with it, one of the lucky ones I keep on coming back to and NEVER getting sick of! I like the cartoon too, I need to watch as many episodes as I can find on here, but THIS one is my gold:)

When this show started on HBO I remember my dad let me stay up late and we would watch it religiously every week. It was great being a kid growing up in the 80's. I feel sorry for kids these days. They get regurgitated & recycled crap to watch, listen to and play with. Not to mention modern technology has ruined being a kid. Instead of exploring outside, riding bikes and such they are plastered in front of t.v's and phones with no imagination. Must suck.

      @cookiesontoast9981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Believe me, a good handful of kids still play outside and go exploring, why do you think we get so much vandalism?
But the part about kids growing up with shit entertainment these days is sadly true.. I'm only 21 so I'm not old at all.. But thankfully I grew up with the Mega Drive, PS1 and Game boy, also got an NES, SNES, N64 etc when I got a bit older.
But video games aside, movies! Yeah modern films are ruined by the overuse of CGI, nothing is original anymore, horror especially is ruined with that absolutely fucking stupid formulaic stuff they do with the jumpscares, over the top loud atmospheric noises etc... Horror is by far my favourite genre of film and damn 90% of horror from the last 15 years at least has just been utter shit..
I'd rather watch films from the 1920's-90's any day, although sometimes 90's could be pushing it as the latter end of the 90's is when the modern tropes of movie making started taking off.
Tales from the Crypt is awesome! A handful of the episodes are kind of shitty but the majority of them are great! Most people hated season 7 in particular and.. I won't say it's very good but I enjoyed it, especially the episode about child abduction.
There are so many memorable episodes from the first 6 seasons especially.
Anyway, you are definitely right about kids growing up with mediocre and very repetitive and recycled films and games these days.. But there are definitely some younger people who realise that what we have today is so boring and look back into the past for their entertainment, they're sadly very few and far between... As 95% of people these days just look down on older films and games, they make fun of practical effects.. 🤦‍♂️ And just overall don't care.. Which is up to them I guess..
But the people that do want to get into older stuff? There has never been a better time to do so, with the Internet I can find thousands of obscure 20's-90's horror/monster/adventure films that I can access easily, and it's awesome, I'm glad that I can live in an age that allows me to learn about and experience all of the past horror movies so very easily. So much easier than scanning the TV channels for films I like and recording them onto VHS tapes but then a bunch of them are censored anyway, or visiting the local video store for films and just hoping to find one I like, I can just look them up online and either order it on blu ray straight toy door or find it online to watch.
Although also quite a few kids are exposed to older films growing up too, whether they pay attention is a different story, while I was watching Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scream and Chucky movies growing up (just to name a few) most kids were watching Shrek or something.

Two anthology shows that you didn't mention that were in the same genre as Tales From The Crypt, were Tales From The Darkside which aired from 1983 to 1988 and was created by George Romero, and made into a movie in 1990, and Are You Afraid Of The Dark? on Nickelodeon which ran from 1990 to 1996 and then in revival in 1999 and once again in 2019. There was another show called Monsters that ran from 1988 until 1991 which some consider to be a loosely based horror show anthology.

Tales from the Crypt Keeper was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I loved the dark colorful comic book art style of the cartoon and the lessons scared into the victims made sense for this type of show targeted at a younger audience.

I actually kind of liked the cartoon series as it was part of a 'forbidden' list of things in our house! I think that having the Crypt Keeper would've actually detracted from the charm and whimsy of The Frighteners particularly in the more serious sequences. However, I am 100% on board with Peter Jackson getting back in touch with his horror roots and rebooting the series with the assistance of someone like Taika Waititi. I think that would be a match made in heaven . . . well, a match made anyway!

One of the things I really liked about the show is that mostly the people who got killed deserved it, unlike with slasher flicks which admittedly I don't like watching. Seeing innocent people get killed just isn't appealing to me, especially beautiful women.

As if being promiscuous (i.e. overly seductive) & basically selling one's body (as in, behaving like a skank/slut/hoe/whore/prostitute) just because your imbalanced hormones made you consistently horny (in other words, basically every sexually-charged teenager ever depicted on film) constitutes anything resembling innocence, because giving up the goods for simple sexual gratification is far from wholesome, which is what innocence is supposed to represent. That's why, in slasher movies, it's always the randy teens who get murdered, meanwhile the heroes usually end up being those who don't openly endorse sexual activity or are virgins who haven't had sex yet.

It wasn't until I got into my late-teens, and was able to look back with fresh eyes, that I came to appreciate the show more. Certain episodes still have a heebee-jeebee-inducing atmosphere, but it's still good fun. Also, as a Disney fan, it was interesting to learn that the Crypt Keeper's voice-actor, John Kassir, also gave his voice to the classic movie "Pocahontas".

Man The Frighteners & From Dusk Till Dawn question is a good one to ponder. They really would make kick ass Tales from the Crypt films, they really have that feel and fit!
One of my favorite anthologies from that time is Tales From the Darkside. I absolutely love that one! (I swear being named Heather and Christian Slater being in one of them who I had crushed over since seeing him as J.D. -Jason Dean in Heathers had nothing to do with my obsession. ..okay it totally did)
The Mummy story and the Demon story were really cool though.
I also loved both Creepshow films. Though the one with that blob monster thing in the lake has helped fuel my fear of swimming in lakes and rivers that I'm unable to see through the water. (Especially since I got my foot tangled in some underwater plant life once swimming in a lake and it pulled me under, I thought I was going to drown for real, until I kicked free. But it put me off swimming in similar bodies of water forever)
Anyhow, I think it's due time for a Cryptkeeper revival. They could bring back Tales from the Crypt entirely or have him be a host like Elvira or Vincent Price to Halloween specials of horror films or short stories anthologies. I really wish they would give it a go, cos we could use a bit of the horror nostalgia.
