Right? I was so confused, of course I've never seen him in real life but the Pixel video looked noticeably sharper, the contrast looked a bit nicer, and overall it felt like there was more detail and the image was closer to how it might look in real life
I felt the same. When he chose the iphone i was shocked but after he explained why i understood better especially in one frame with the blue sky.

Wtf is wrong with iPhone 12 pro microphone? Might just be the device I'm watching it on (galaxy tab s5e with quad speakers), but the iPhone audio always sounded like it was somewhat pushed to the side, like coming out of a single down-firing speaker. Especially on the rear camera, it actually started to hurt my ears somewhat, and when it swapped back to pixel microphone, it was a big relief. I normally never notice any differences in audio between devices, like I can't even tell that the pixel 5 has a worse speaker when using it in person, but this was a serious shock to hear from this video. Thank you so much for the awesome video and keep up the good work.

Videos on the Pixel 4a 5G's front camera look sharper. Overall, the iPhone does not have a decisive win, especially if you ask an average user, who's not a professional videographer. So, no, double the cost is not worth it.

5:21 "4a5G is bigger" - Pixel 5 is smaler, but sports the same quality as the 4a5G. No need to buy an iPhone to have a more compact device. Most users will be happy with the even cheaper Pixel 4a! ;-)

Somehow talked someone on swappa to a local sale for the 4a 5g new in box from google with receipt for $399.
Actually went from the Pixel 5 to the 4a 5G bc I was much happier with the size bc I have huge hands. No regrets

Hey Scott, I wanted to ask you a question. A few other reviewers have stated that the speakers on this phone is terrible. I truly hope that's not the case since I'm coming from a OnePlus 6t which has excellent speaker. This will be my first Pixel ever. I bought the Iphone 12 pro 256 storage variant and returned it. I can't deal with the fact that you can't customize it to make it yours. I then bought the Samsung S21 ultra 512 storage option and also returned it due to the slightly curve edges and other stuff I don't like about Samsung phones. So it's gonna be this one till something better comes out or I'll return it and get the OnePlus 9 pro.

@@TechnicallySpeaking This is an excellent question. Apple does some pleasing things with color (at times), but not as accurate. Oddly, this was a really helpful video (not oddly) but question and answer.

Excellent review, thank you! Exactly what I was looking for! There may be an issue with the Pixel though - many owners say there's a surprisingly lack of details in photos, and they link it with maybe lower lens quality in the first batches sold. Did you notice any issues with details and focusing?
In the end of the day, it's all about which OS you prefer (also, are you in eco system, or not), and only after it, all the rest...cameras, and etc.
People choosing iPhone because of the OS, not because the selfie camera.

If the price is a factor for you right now then the Pixel 4a 5g is a no brainer right now. It is a great quality phone with at least 3 years of support for only $299 + tax for new customers and $349 + tax on the google fi website.
New iPhones are just to expensive, they're my preference but $1800 AUD is silly money for a phone. $644 AUD for this Pixel 4a 5G is much more realistic. Think I'm converting.

After watching this video and listening to this nice gentleman explaining basically everything. I went ahead and ordered the pixel 4a 5g coming from a OnePlus 6t. I get mine on Thursday the 11th of this month.
wasn't clear on the color accuracy at the beginning. was the Pixel washing out the sky or was it more accurate and iPhone just upped the blue saturation? I have been testing the iPhone 12 Pro after being on Pixel 3 for two years and find many things look washed out (which I see with your face/sweatshirt here, but not sure what they looked like IRL).

I honestly think around 3:11 the iPhones HDR looks blown out with the trees and stuff but the pixels look more natural and sharper

The iPhone 12 Pro audio is slightly out of sync with the video. Not sure if it's from the video editting or the actual recording from the phone.

The iphone image mainly just looks like it has a bump up in the gamma (mids are brighter) vs. the Pixel. It also looks like it has some sort of skin smoothing filter, like a 'skin detail reduction' going on too, which makes for more flattering pics. ...it also has a bit of a green cast. I could see accomplishing a lot of those things with an app after the shot has been taken.
I'm going for the 4a 5g mainly due to price/performance.

Man, we are in sync on this. I have switched over to doing everything with the Pixel 5 now. Video is close enough to the iPhone and I don't worry about needing to retake portraits. Having said that I think Apple either needs to pay Ghenosis or have him teach a class on how to get the best stills with the iPhone, LOL.

I got the Pixel 4a (non 5g), had to replace it because of some weird issues with the camera. Now I got a Pixel 4a 5G, but it seems the performance is not that great. I see there is some lag, sometimes it takes time to open applications, etc. Not sure if its again an issue again. When you go to Google news and scroll the news items, does it lag sometimes? On websites' its the same, sometimes its just laggy for a few seconds.

I now have both of these phones so very interesting to see a comparison. You can probably guess which phone I bought and which one I was given. Especially when one of these phones was bundled with an almost £200 pair of Boss headphones.

When I began the video I zoomed my screen and realized I didn’t know which was which, and I thought the Pixel video looked better. iPhone quality isn’t giving detail at all. Just saturation.
Okay to be fair upon a 2nd look, there is detail, but the hair isn’t as sharp to my eye.
Updating from OG pixel xl to the 4a 5G. I’ve been waiting for a good compromise for all the things I want in a phone. Couldn’t stand the notch in the 3, not a fan of the hole punch but it’s preferable to any notch. It has the internals of the 5, a screen with a slightly lower refresh but better battery life and the all mighty headphone jack. Now seems like a good time to trade up

I would consider buying this but a 128gb of onboard storage and no expansion options is discouraging.
With Google Fi as your cellular provider, you get 100gb of Google One Storage free. My wife has an iPhone under Fi service and free cloud storage is convenient for her especially since she loves to take pictures and record lots of videos.
@@Jrtapia94 you cannot use cloud storage for app data and this is the issue. Offloading photos is not the problem.
Google has improved in video for this generation. I just wish the front facing camera would at least be 1080p 60 with enhanced detail. I'll wait til the next 7 series chip for Google to improve that.

I'm trying to set the same wallpaper to both the home screen and lock screen but on the lock screen. It stays totally black with the always on display. Please help me with this matter. Thank you

Well I have a Pixel 4a 5g. I paid $550 out the door with the Google fabric case after sales tax and shipping fees. And it's just 'fine.'
The trouble is that everything the Pixel does okay the iPhone 12 does better and for that reason I would rather have the iPhone and I'll probably return my pixel.
The iPhone is better compared to the Pixel 5, where it becomes more obvious that everything the Pixel does the iPhone does just a little bit better.
I mean, I was a little disappointed with the display. The white balance and black crush on the 4a 5g is not as good as the iPhone 12. The screen on the Pixel is also 424ppi vs 460ppi on the iPhone 12. And while the Pixel 4a 5g has a headphone jack, the DAC isn't any good so it's a pointless headphone jack unless you like bad quality audio.
So I priced out a new iPhone 12 and an Apple case to go with it -- same config as my pixel 4a 5g -- and it comes out to $1,099 out the door after tax and shipping. So it is double the real world price. But I feel like I wouldn't mind paying the extra for the functionality I'd get. So while the Pixel is 'fine' and good at photography, I still want something better. Something like the iPhone 12. The reason I want the iPhone 12 and may return the Pixel 4a 5g is because I intend on using my phone as a home theater and desktop replacement device. I am getting rid of my TV and speakers to replace them with my iPhone. For this reason, the black crush on the Pixel would be fine for the usage Google intended the pixel be used for -- namely, for capturing memories with friends and families, it isn't a home theater system in your pocket. And that's part of what I'm looking for. They clearly want it to be a cheapish and disposable tool to use on the go for mobile work. They seem to want the phone to be a specialized device that's good only at the intended uses and functionality google wants people to use it for -- and that doesn't include being a personal TV replacement that fits in your pocket. So okay, fine. If that's all I wanted a pixel for it would be outstandingly good. But the thing is that I'm a poor young person who can't afford to haul a big screen TV around when I frequently move. I need all my belongings to fit in the back seat of a compact 4 door car. So for me, my phone is my only piece of technology, and a lifeline. I need to to be a desktop replacement, laptop replacement, TV replacement, music player replacement and that's it.
So I mean while the Pixel excells at what it does, it does not do what I want it to do and it was not designed to. And that's about it for me. If you need a pixel to do simple photography with family and friends, and to make phone calls and nothing else then it is very good at all that. if your phone will be your only piece of technology a pixel might not be the device you are looking for.
As minimum wages rise, assuming you have no other technology, an iPhone is a good deal. With a Pixel you'd need a laptop or desktop and a TV. The price of a Pixel 4a, a TV and a laptop is well beyond the price of just an iPhone and a case and charger for it.
Pics quality from pixel is incredible plus you get unlimited storage from google. Not sure 4a5g or pixel 5 ?? Any advice
I have the 5 but honestly it depends if you want wireless charging. If you want a sage color instead of black. The 5 is a 6 inch screen the 4a 5g is 6.2. And the five has a grainy king of feel to the body and the 4a 5g is plastic. Honestly there's not that much difference between the 5 and 4a 5g oh and the 5 has a 90 hz refresh rate the 4a 5g has 60hz. The five has a bigger battery and battery share. I love my pixel 5. I actually went out and got the iPhone 12 and 12 pro returned the pro (cause they are the same phones pretty much) then I went out and got the pixel 5 cause I just wanted to try something different been using iphone since 2007. This is my first pixel/android and I haven't touched my iphone 12 since I got the pixel 5. I absolutely love this phone. Pretty sure I am now team pixel hah. Good luck on your choice!! If you value speaker audio, then the choice is easy: Go with the Pixel 4a5G. I compared them side-by-side for quite a while at a BestBuy, and the Pxl 4a5G’s speakers most def sounded louder and clearer.
The sound coming from the Pxl 5’s front-facing (top) speaker is somewhate muted/muffled and arguably a bit distorted (certainly less full/rich) because of its placement under the phone’s display.
Pixel images look more natural, but only by a slight margin. However when using back, hi-res camera, the mike on 4a 5g worked way better.

In terms of videos i realized the sound doesn't coordinate well with the movement of your mouth for the iphone. The pixel perform better in that area.

If I'd have to choose and iphone I would choose the pro, I think that the pro max doesn't worth it, because the differences are priceless... And has some cool stuff over the 12 like the lidar scaner and the telefoto.

I don't have a great eye for photography/video, but to me there was very little difference. I honestly could not say which was better than the other. As for sound quality however, the Pixel was better hands down. IMHO even if the iPhone was only $100, or even $50 more than the Pixel, I would still go with the Pixel, unless I was already invested in the Apple ecosystem.

The selfies were better on the iphone. Everything else it was equal or better for the Pixel. Also the pixel can use an external TRRS mic. Gcam even recognizes it. That makes a huge difference on sound quality.

The Pixel 5 is arguably a better comparison to the IP 12 Mini in terms of having 5G, an ultra-wide lens/sensor, value-added features (IP rating & build quality, wireless charging, etc) and overall performance. The Pxl 5 is almost identical in size to the 4a.
Keep in mind also that battery life on the Mini will be shorter than on any of the 2020 Pixels.

I think the sharpness is too high on the pixel, we need manual setting for colors, sharpness, and contrast to make our pictures better.
