    "The anchor point is not a stopping - it's a continual motion"
    Not much more clear than that. Fantastic presentation.

    Many thanks Tim, it hadn't really occurred to me that the tab /glove thing would be an issue and new and old gloves - makes perfect sense ,thank you jv

    I'm strictly a 3 under shooter and have been switching between my glove and tabs. I've never noticed a difference. I'll definitely have to check them out!

    Thank you so much! I was doing exactly that, feeling the movement of the hand on release going forward and then mimicking a shoulder turn back. Yeah it was bad.

    Thanks for the response Tim. I feel the exact same way and totally get what you're saying. Keep up the great work on the vids, they're a contemporary blend of current info based against decades of experience. Love it.

    Hi Tim, my name is Alejandro and I am writing to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina It has been fortunate for me to have found your videos on TH-cam, especially this one, which has been extremely useful for me to achieve consistency in the way I anchor the arrow in the face, giving me more precision in the shot. I very much appreciate your effort in transmitting knowledge and I follow you in the next videos. Thank you very much and I send you a big hug from Argentina. Alex.

    Great information on repeating anchor point, that is comfortable for your own personal skeletal feature, I actually have my thumb curve hit right into my cheek bone, with thumb tip just under my dominate eye.(if you can feel this) This seems to be my most comfortable (repeatable)anchor-release point for me. What he mentions is comparability, without stress, natural feel, I go to this point naturally, every time. I've taken a measurement, also and every draw, is sitting right on 28 inches. Right now I'm a happy camper, but like also mentioned, experiment, experiment shoot many arrows to feel "your" easy form. The other day shooting, I felt smooth, easy, comfortable, relaxed breathing, and at 20 yards, was hitting within a 10 inch circle grouping, I was totally stoked. YES !!!!!

    Tim, I've been shooting the "jaw anchor" for two years and actually shoot pretty darn well, but catch myself short drawing a lot. I think this video has convinced me to find a new anchor point. Going into winter is the perfect time to mess with your set-up anyway ;) Thanks for taking time to make these videos!

    • @timgolder2607
      @timgolder2607  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The jaw anchor is very solid bone to bone if you can maintain back tension. You just don't want to get lazy and develop a creep as you come into your anchor. A clicker will really help you learn how to maintain that back tension.

    • @timgolder2607
      @timgolder2607  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're not comfortable changing your anchor try working with a clicker. It would help you promote that continuous back tension while still staying with an anchor you're familiar with. Good luck!

    Im a guy thats new to Bare bow archery & need all the help i can get starting off because i know much of nothing about a Olympic recurve style bow , but have shot a compound for years but got out of shooting & many compitions , tournaments for over like 15 years ,ended up with couple health problems & had to stop archery at a whole . I shot & started off shooting NFAA Indoor at 20 yds. & shot NFAA Field also then 3-D got hot in my area & state & done very well because of my history of shooting indoor tournimates & Field Archery tournimates in my State of Mississippi but ended up shooting 3-D all over the Southren states from La. to FL. all over & done very well & avg. Score was around 190's & up to my P.B. was an 214 with like seven or eight 12 rings i think it was been so long back now. During my lay off of shooting ASA dropped my Class or Divison of shooting & that was the Mens Fingers , basicly same as the Open Division but with fingers & not a release aid . So ive shot fingers the intire time i was into archery but with compound only NO recurve but messing around at a end of year shoot we had out of the top 10 shooters from each Class & we all shot recurves but the regular recurve shooters wasn't allowed because that was there normal way of shooting & makes us look terrible ! So i need help badly for me starting a new journey in Archery more than like almost 15 years not into it . Bare Bow Class

    I m 54 and been shooting recurve since I was 18. Everything you talked about in your videos has happened to me. I learned different way to anchor and lower my poundage and my accuracy improve dramatically thanks for the information . I was getting frustrated I was not bad but not where I wanted to be

      We are the same age and had the same hurtles over the years. Sure wish I had bought a 45lb bow right out of the gate and stuck with it. Heavy bows made the climb straight up hill for way too long..

    Example: Carbon vs wood , 500 vs 600 spine and etc.

    What part of eastern pa are you from? My son and I are getting into traditional bow shooting for hunting and are watching your videos. Very informative. We're coming from compound bow. Also we're from North of Pittsburgh. Thanks for making the videos

    Great stuff Tim. I've noticed in your videos that you shoot both split and 3 under. Would love to see a vid with your personal take comparing the two. I too shoot/have shot both methods and while I enjoy the arrow closer to the eye with 3 under I just can't seem to get away from split finger's arrow control when I'm actually out trying to hunt something. What are your thoughts from a purely hunters standpoint?

    • @timgolder2607
      @timgolder2607  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael.....Yes I'm guilty of jumping back and forth between split and three under and definitely something I know is not a good idea for consistency. I was split for so many years and it's always felt much more natural to me, hence the reason for not giving it up just yet. I personally believe 3 fingers under is a more accurate way to shoot and no matter what your method of aiming, 3 under does provide a smaller sight picture that is more easily recognized and repeated. Especially when shooting under ideal conditions. The problem that I've personally run into with 3 under is while hunting. I just don't feel as comfortable or confident when shooting at a deer or many of small game animals I hunt using 3 under. Split is much more natural for me and the shot just happens more naturally. My sole focus while hunting is waiting for the perfect angle at an undisturbed deer and when I get that window the arrow is gone. I don't even think about it. With 3 under I find myself wanting to go through steps in the shooting process???? Not sure that makes sense but I feel like I'm fighting the process rather than just shooting the darn arrow. Your last question.....from a hunting standpoint I really believe you should go with what feels natural. I don't gap shoot, I have tried (man have I tried). I believe some of us are blessed with an analytical mind and point of aim, gap, etc works very well. Others, like me have been blessed with very good hand eye coordination. I've always been good just picking a spot and shooting it. Wing shooting, throwing a football, etc. I think we need to understand what works for us, how we are wired and pursue that road. Let's not just try to do what works for someone else.

      @@timgolder2607 Just to add. In my opinion "instinctive" shooting is a result of accumulated experience, when the brain adjusts the gaps automatically and once its done, it makes the archer realize: "ok, this feels good - release! " )))

    Proficiency Test? Are there states that require that?

    PA doesn't require a proficiency test but to hunt with in a particular residential area the gentleman that was running the program did require one.
