The easiest method is basically how the guy at the very end did it. But the trick to ‘shoveling’ is if you know you’re getting a winter storm, go out every hour and simply push back and forth to the edges of your driveway before it gets too deep. The wider your driveway is the harder it is if you let it go too long because you have to throw the snow from the middle. Work smarter not harder. Winter storm tonight 12-18 inches of snow and I’ve push shoveled about 5 times and I tell you what my back will thank me in a few hours when I only have a few inches in the a.m. to dust off again. I’ll even set my alarm sometimes because I can’t stand getting stuck physically shoveling a 2 car wide long driveway in the morning. Screw that I’ve learned my lesson.

Shovel little by little in deep snow. Saves you back. I have shoveled snow before high school. Edmonton the wind is from the northwest. Sidewalk I would pile the snow on the upwind side, and about 2 inches on the down wind. I would only have to shovel 2 inches about. Others level out both sides and have over a foot of snow, I have more back pain.

That last one is just what I was looking for...New to the Mountains this winter, I just cleared the driveway, twice, by starting on one side and pushing all the way across to the other side!...I dont know why...the strip down the middle, then shorter trips to each side makes sense! Thanks for the video...exactly the info I was hoping to find from an Experienced snow shoveler!!

Serious question here. I didn’t grow up around snow and this is our first winter owning a house 🥶 I was shoveling our driveway this morning and it looked like 1:50 it felt like I was making things worse and creating an ice problem when it freezes. I put salt down afterwards, so I guess I’m good?

    Hey Cool
BUT I recently discovered a Great wow trick, without a bend handle:
Added an affordable Kayak Plastic & strap handle w/plastic ends, placed to give max handle slack, from Aliexpr to your lower hand part of my shovel's pole, attached parallel right on it, with 4 - 4. x 20mm blind pulling (internal backing expanding flower) rivets, GREATLY helps reduce back pain and to flick/tilt/throw the snow off the shovels. I'm going to do all my friend's shovels. I see there are all plastic triangle handles just for snow shovels but the reviews show they break too often.
    Take care

I shovel just like I was taught by my grandfather. It is easier to lift a light load so little by little. I do the one strip like the guy at the end and then the rest. I then have a stiff brush broom to sweep off anything that is stuck. If there is ice I have a ice breaker tool and then I sweep. Once this initial layer is removed the rest is easy to deal with. I have one area where I use some ice salt for safety. After that it is usually just some sweeping as it does not stick much. For breaking up ice dams I use cold, then warm water to make a path and the ice breaking tool. Sometimes the salt just runs down the drain so we don't use as much on the slanted area. For more even salt application I use a scoop and then a broom to distribute it. I have considered a snow thrower.
