In my experience the ignition timing blowing out the head gasket is unique to the Y8 head. I was able to run way more timing on a Z6 with no issues. My Y8 wants about half of the timing that my Z6 wanted under boost, or it will blow the HG even with ARPs/Vitaras. I assume it’s due to the much tighter quench zone on the Y8 head. For reference, I had my timing table at 15 degrees advance @ 15 psi on the Y8 and it blew the HG. I backed down to 8 degrees @ 15 psi and with very minimal power loss and now I have no HG issues.

Hell yeah brother
So the COP conversion basically just leaves the dizzy as a cam sensor? I hope someone makes a low-profile cap to make the whole unit smaller after gutting it.
yes thats correct there are a number of options the d16y8 also features a trigger wheel on the crank pully from factory, but there are heaps of options, obviosly the more sensors you have the better
@@TURBOTRISTO what's your engine management? I'm using hondata which is obd1 and I think it doesn't have the functionality for the crank sensor.
@@FroztiProductions I’m running a haltech in my own d16y4 this car has a hondata
You can use b18 headstuds if you drill and tap the block for them. They are larger than d16 headstuds... head wont lift now
smarter to build a b18 or a k series
@@TURBOTRISTO don't let your dreams just be memes. The D is still the best bang for your buck build.
That’s awesome to know man we both got too frustrated with the d series and we ditched the builds haha
@@TURBOTRISTO I feel you! I’m looking for the right K or B bargain as well. D has turned into so much work for so little gain. I need low-end torque in my life.
what i know about z6:
over 0.7 bar (10psi) - it blows HG as it's stock head bolts ain't hard enough. And should be replaced with stronger ones.
Beautiful build should use the torque mounts it help with the shaking some
all sorted after the videos was made :) thanks for watching Juan
@@TURBOTRISTO your welcome thank you for the content
Sorry if I missed it. What ECU setup are you using? Great video.
this is a hondata in this car
Hey TT have you been having any over heating issues while racing or pushing it hard using the half rad?
Not until it was turned up and the head lifted a common issue if you run too much timing, the radiator size is fine
@@TURBOTRISTO I'm only running 12psi on a stock d16y4 and can only get half a flying lap of my local race track (Wanneroo) before the temps are way up in the red! I think I have other issues.

How much for engine swap with labour? Keen on a budget sleeper.
Depends what motor is in it now?
Thinking of a civic fd1 manual r18a engine.
@@xconankunx4530 do you want to Kswap it or turbo the existing motor? I can do either the budget option would be the turbo honestly, Kswaping will be quite expensive but also very worthwile

Finally after 2 months of watching your channel I have a d16y8 turbo and it made 201whp so fun.
Very impressive build 9psi sweet man 💪🇺🇸
Thanks Edgar!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
How much power do you make at 7 PSI? Also would you say it's reliable?
If it’s tuned right for sure it’s reliable
Can a nonvtec d16 handle the same power with the same modifications?
Yes it sure can no dramas at all, in fact less issues if you don’t have worry about vtec and vtec solenoids and tuning on two cam profiles
This is so sick
Yeah man it was fun
I don't think it's a d series problem I tuned a car piston rods valvetrain a stock cam basic ARP had no problem at 20 psi pump 91 made like 350 to the wheels lasted two different owners and one really beating it hard was machined properly with comectic gasket cracked a sleeve before lifting the head
hmmm thats interesting, mine lifted almost immediately, maybe your tuner knew not to give it much timing
@@TURBOTRISTO I tuned it I was running around +16 on 20 psi it was 9:1 compression on 91 pump maybe the machine shop made a mistake when they did the work the only ones I've tuned that blew head gaskets where stock but I feel like it's to be expected
@@hseriesonlymonctonnb1181 every one in australia tells me they have lifted their heads several times on various d16 builds, I honestly don’t know what to think any more haha

I have a stock y8, with a lot of miles, and have been debating this for a while.
compresion test it and if its all even slap a turbo on it, dont bother wasting money on a vitara build, it will be a waste of time and money, the stock engine will handle 250-300hp, if it blows up then k or b swap it
I got a hole single cam vet head i have a 92 civic boosted 15 pounds i had it for 20 years
thats awesome man, has it been running on the same build same boost and same tune for 2 years? what power did you get out of 15 psi?
