  • Finally here it is: my PSVR 2 Through-The-Lens video! THIS is how the PSVR 2 actually looks like. Of course, checking it out yourself is much better, but if you don't have a device at hand, this is your next best bet. How sharp/blurry is the PSVR 2? How bad is Mura and what is it? Here you will find out by looking through the lens of the PSVR 2 in Kayak Mirage, Star Wars, GT7 and Horizon!

Yeah coming from index there are so many pluses, way lighter, better colors, better black levels ,eye tracking provides a big performance boost, easy setup, head haptics. Feels like next gen VR in comparison, only thing I'm not a fan of is grap buttons with finger sense, I'd much rather have the finger tracking of the index but def not a deal breaker.

After being initially disappointed and realizing that my initial expectations were too high, I'm now starting to enjoy playing on this headset quite a bit. I still think we're 5-10 years away from VR going mainstream. It has to be a seamless experience, and the resolution doesn't have to be out of this world but there can't be so much blur when moving or in the edges of the lenses. Horizon was kind of a let down for this reason. I'm also noticing the wire a lot more than I thought I would, so wireless connectivity will be a must in the future. For now though, I'll definitely have a lot of fun in this headset.

black blacks is #1 for me, then OLED colours and (now) HDR. Everything else is secondary at this stage (inc even my previous pet-hate : god rays). I've put about 10 hours in my PSVR2 so far (4 on GT7 6 on RE Village last night) and had an awesome, immersive time.... probably the best since my first days of VR back in 2014 with the rift DK2 (then vive/psvr1/rift cv1/quest 2), with PSVR2 the slick system, good FOV, proper blacks, great controllers/haptics and AAA software I finally felt like we are that proper minimum bar for 'great VR' and it'll only get better from here.
Yeah I'd prefer no mura, no wire, no god rays and to not have aliasing in the distance due to the games cutting down on their settings for VR (which Foveated rendering helps with a lot but clearly they are still having to down res or turn some features off even in the focus area), the reprojection and jitter can be annoying, but on balance it's the most proper gaming fun I've had yet with VR and I've played a fair bit in the past (Alyx, Lone Echo, PSVR1 stuff, Quest 2 standalone stuff). If VR is going to ever succeed then we need to support Sony and PSVR2 as the only really viable mass market GAMING FOCUSSED VR system at this time (until index 2... but even then PCVR is sporadic at best and Valve/index will never have the sales numbers like Sony could potentially reach.. esp if we get PSVR3/4/5 in years to come)

    • @JAKOB1977
      @JAKOB1977 ปีที่แล้ว

For me its resolution, FOV, and sweetspot and small pixels,, so very low PPI when we are talking VR, for that immersive experience. ..
for gaming on TVs, its obviously other things, as sweetspot and FOV aint factors, so there its resolution, Contrast, and brightness and why I turn to an OLED 4K TV the moment they drop in price in 2017.
HDR is a very relative thing, as you almost cant find a cheap monitor from CN that aint got a HDR label on it, same with TVs.. there are certain things that need to be met before HDR have any relevance, and that is what rec value. is that HDR in, and are the brightness high enough, to give it any legs.
I recall most people remember Red dead redemption2... and its HDR, and it were simply an SDR color-oom in a HDR container (gimmick) and it had no meaning, no matter if you run it on a OLED panel or, so its a twoway street, and we all remember how long it took before HDR took main gaming scene, so actual VR games with good HDR.. can be a long time comming and depend on many things, so it aint just a gimmick
what HDR format does PSVR2 actually support.. HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision?.. is it dynamic HDR, and what brightness can PSVR2 deliver.. all these factors needs tmeet a certain criteria before HDR aint just a gimmick and VR games need to be build with this in mind.

Well you OLED people got your black blacks but now people are complaining about blurriness. I think clarity and sharpness are far more important for VR adoption than black blacks. I love my G2 because it is incredibly sharp. You no longer feel like you're sacrificing graphical quality for VR immersion with the G2. I was hoping the PSVR 2 would be the same, But then the screwed up and used OLED with pentile pixels.

I found that it is still plenty bright, especially in contrast to oled black levels, but mura is not noticeable anymore. As a bonus I feel like my eyes don't get as tired after long sessions. Controllers are fantastic. Colors are great, some fuzziness in the picture but not so much to cause sickness, distract from gameplay, etc. It’s decent clarity. @@666Daheretic it's very simple and this is why Sony's first psvr was the one least likely to make you barf and shit yourself (if you continue insisting on using a vr while you are nauseous) because PSVR was letting a bit of reality come in due to the fact it wasn't sealing off the eyes completely.
Here is the thing: in the past 100 000 years, the only time when the following would not be in sync - what we see, what our inner ear (balance) feels, what our ears would build as sound space and what our bodies feel as motion -
was when we got poisoned by something we ate. And our bodies know what to do then. Make us throw up and if the symptoms persist, shit it out.
VR manufacturers are fighting 100 000 years of existence. If you have any motion sickens while traveling in real life, VR is a big no no for you, and forget about using it unless you take some motion sickness prevention drugs like Dramamine beforehand.

People new to VR were expecting it to look like it does in 2D videos.
The issue is that many VR channels do not point out that at present the image in a low end VR headset like PSVR2 looks worse than a 720p tv at a typical viewing distance. That is simply because of the image taking up a lot more of your field of view in the headset.
The screen door effect has been reduced by using a diffusion filter which is in effect like smearing Vaseline on your screen - it is poor trade off IMO.

I am a bit surprised you didn’t really go into what actually makes it a phenomenal headset, it’s black levels! I own a Hp reverb g2 and though it’s superior in resolution and clarity, I greatly prefer my psvr2 due to its deep inky black levels. This adds soooo much to the suspension of disbelief and combined with the hdr brightness, makes for a better overall experience. Re8 on psvr2 is hands down the best looking vr game period and I finished Alyx on my G2.

This was the most immersive experience I've had so far: flaslight in the dark in this game. Is it the best looking? No. The sharpest? No. But the depth of the visuals is so much better when you're not staring at lightblue/grey black levels ;p

I had a completely opposite experience. PSVR2 colors and vibrancy is not much improved over G2, and resolution is dramatically lower than G2. When comparing same games on each, same 1080p movie, G2 stands head and shoulders above PSVR2 -- no matter how I adjust it. I finished Alyx on G2 with an RTX 3080 PC, and found it far better looking than RE8 on PSVR2.

I loved my G2 and it was like discovering Alyx all over again vs my playthrough with Quest 2. But then I saw Flight Sim Guy do a review of the Pico4, I ordered one... and my G2 went into a box 2 days after the Pico4 arrived.
Essentially the same resolution, but those pancake lenses make a HUGE difference. No glare, no small sweet spot, and my G2 was always fogging up but the Pico4 has that fan to take care of that. And then having the Pico4 wireless w/ Virtual Desktop and not having to futz around with Windows Mixed Reality. I'm hoping the Pimax Crystal can unseat the Pico4
So I might be one who is not blown away by PSVR2, but I'm still seriously considering the whole PSVR2 kit + wheel just for that GT7 immersion driving. That looks amazing.

It’s a monumental step up from PSVR1 hands down. Remind me how many current VR sets have pancake lenses and of those that have all the features that the PSVR2 has. The problem is that we were expecting a 4K headset with HDR for our $600. What we got looks fuzzy and blurry. I think most people would happily trade a bit of color depth for more clarity. • @KobraVR

Coming from pcvr it is a significant drop in clarity. Even using Quest 2 with link cable gives a crisper image. There is a lot of movement on screen due to the anti-aliasing I think and very fuzzy edges. The screen door is ever-present too. I'm quite critical though so it's just an honest opinion. It doesn't sit firmly in place either as it rests away from your eyes, moving your head in Pavlov wobbles the world, this would never happen on Quest 2 with it firmly fixed in place the world stays steady.
My advice would be if you are not already invested in pcvr and want a next-level experience over a native Quest 2 then it's a great option. PlayStation will heavily optimise apps for it too. If you have a disposable income and want the best experience, ofc go for pcvr.

In case you want to know why it is because in VR they have to render two seperate frames from two different angles which requires a lot more hardware horsepower than we currently have so render resolution has to be lowered to maintain a high FPS. Low FPS in VR is guaranteed to make someone vomit.

But anyone with any VR experience knows that it's not going to be as good as a TV.
No reviewers lied either. It is indeed a state of the art VR, that is clearer and sharper than most. When they praise the visual quality, it's because it deserves praise compared to other headsets.

I've played about 10+ hours on it, and the mura is only noticeable in some games. But when it is, god, it kills the image so much. Imma try to play around with the brightness, but we will see. Controller battery life is also an issue. Once you hit around 50 percent (2 hours), the tracking starts to go a little whacky. Overall though, I think anyone with a 3080 or lower rig will be impressed with psvr 2. I like that I can play games smoothly, but I like my quest pro lenses way more. Ultimately I wish I didn't buy into the hype around this headset and just saved up for a 4090 rig.

How do you find the edge to edge clarity? When doing the eye tracking are the dots to the left and right clear or blurry. On my headset they are blurry. My Pico 4 seems to have a much better edge to edge clarity. Some people are saying their PSVR2 is clear edge to edge while for others its not. And yes .. the 4090 is pretty amazing. Alyx at full settings with no re-projection is a sight to behold. Plus a fully modded Skyrim running at smooth 72-90fps will suck you into the world

in fact, few people know how video in vr format works. If you think that you see video even 2000 * 2040 through a headset, then you are mistaken. The key is NOT the resolution of the headset,, but the quality of the incoming video. And here almost no one knows that unlike for normal video, when viewing 360° video, only part of the original image is shown on the screen (approximately 60 degrees out of 360). As a result, the true resolution of the visible area does not exceed 1.3k if the original video was 8k. The problem is if Horizon Call of the Mountain comes from ps5 in 4k format, that means you will get only 4k/6=0.65k.This is the main reason why people are disappointed: they expect 4k but get 0.65k.For example,I can run 5952*2976 180VR video on my ps4 slim and it looks fckng cool dispite the fact that resolution of psvr1 headset is only 960*1080 per eye. So,if you want real 4k 360VR quality you need 24K incoming video to your headset(sorry for bad english)

The "Mura" effect is def so much more noticeable on this unit. While the resolution is higher/ blacks much blacker, and details over the meta quest 2 (because of the Ps5). The LCD's of the Quest 2 and other headsets didn't have mura at all, however objects on quest 2 produced much more noticeable rings from the optics especially in darker areas, and even moderate, so the psvr improves on that. FOV is higher as well on PSVR2. Meta quest 2 on pc with higher resolution looked amazing (minus those rings in some ways). Sadly psvr 2 is not as huge a leap as I hoped when compared. PSvr2 is blacker in dark areas, brighter in bright areas. The Mura you will notice and meta users might be disgruntled at first, however your brain quickly tunes it out and the other aspects pay off. PC vr users even meta 2 on pc users may not feel its as giant a leap.

The shutter speed is picking up far more artifacts and screen issues then what you see. Notice the white ripples coming down your video? The eye has a natural convex shape which’s mirrors the lens of the VR2. Throwing another camera inside the left/right lens will not translate well on screen. I understand the issues but I think it is being analyzed and being blown way out of proportion.

My favourite thing about this headset is the amazing blacks which made me feel more excited than anything in vr has in years.
Re8 in dark rooms ie.. the tutorial garage, or dungeons later on in the game is stunning.
But this headset has sde & mura & a less than crisp image & coming from a reverb g2 is a downgrade in those areas which i wasn't expecting.
Would i trade more res, no mura & a crisper image to take away those blacks & colours? Hell no!
The mura i can ignore quite easily & get used to & the res & sde are definitely good enough to really enjoy games
But my expectations were too high due to all the overhype & reviewers not mentioning this or saying it didn't have these little issues.
& even overhyping cotm which is good but not the best looking game I've seen in vr.

it's like watching a movie screen up close or else a projector on a wall, right, don't I have a problem unit? it's my first VR and I had no idea it was like this, the videos we released showed the rendering in a capture, which is completely different and has that effect of a 3d movie in the cinema in some games like Gran Turismo, as the images are superimposed , in RE8 it is even more strange, it seems that antialiasing is missing and the edges keep moving, including the texts in the menu, the issue of blurring at the edges is a little annoying, but I have read that it is normal in the type of lens and when you find the point ideal, you end up not noticing much more in the middle of games, it's worse in the menus, in addition to all that the immersion ends up being worth it, the immensity of things and the "weight" if all, it's very satisfactory, for being my first VR I'd like to know if I don't have a problem in any question I said, can you help me?

    • @666Daheretic
      @666Daheretic ปีที่แล้ว +2

Foveated rendering uses eye tracking to know where you are looking directly and render that focal point at full resolution everything outside the focal point gets rendered at a lower resolution. That resolution decreases incrementally as distance from the focal point increases.
This is how Horizon Call of the Mountain has the graphics it does on it's limited horsepower. That is why a GPU with the same horsepower on PC would not be able to run this game in VR. Current generation GPUs could but they are crazy expensive.
Now to be clear foveated rendering is not bad. Put some text in your peripheral vision and then focus on something straight ahead and see if you can still read the text clearly. Foveated rendering works similarly to your eyes so it's actually a good solution to getting more fidelity in VR and a lot of PCVR users would love to have this in more of our headsets as we need $1000 GPUs to get this level of graphics in VR.

Thats not how foveated rendering works though. It doesn't "blur" anything. It lowers the render resolution outside the focal point. If it looks blurry everywhere to you it's because of the lenses and displays not foveated rendering. I coan determine from this video exactly where the render resolution drops because the image starts to have less polygons further from the center which is exactly what foveated rendering does. Render resolution is how many polygons are being rendered in a frame not the display resolution being output.

Well. I finally got my second Unit. Now I can definitely state that reviewers got cherry-picked Units. Sony has a major QC issues. So I would strongly encourage everyone with bad panels to return the Headset. The issue with that is, that you'll probably will need to do this procedure multiple times. As the pass criteria for the display matching and calibration ist set as low as possible. Now back to the reasoning behind this. On the second unit I got, I have a am able to directly compare an Ok and a very bad displays, as they are totally different quality. The right one dose have very noticeable mura, and the left one have almost no Mira. But, even the right one is much better then the displays I gut with the first Headset. However, as the displays on the news headset are so different from each other it is impossible to use use it without getting splitting headache.
This is very bad for VR industry on general, as this headset will be the first for a lot of people. It will most definitely lead to a lot of consumers associating VR with headaches and vomiting. This people will never touch VR again. I wouldn't if this was my first experience with VR.
At this point Sony must address the issue, as this faulty headset may lead to health issues.

The question is what drains the batteries in the Sony controllers, the quest on one AA 2400mah 1.2V works over 20 hours, with haptic vibrations on, Sony controllers run out very quickly, even without haptics, while watching netflix, is it not the fault of the large amount of IR diodes on the ring 🤔

If you want to know with PSVR2 is like. Buy a set of black womens tights, put it over you're face; then put the headset on (after drinking 10 beers). Most underwhelming set of hardware I have ever used. Impossible to enjoy anything with the black grain. Don't even attempt to play any of the night maps on kayak VR either. It's clear the influencers/VR channels who were sent the headset were told not to mention this. Sent my back after 2 hours of use on 4 different games. All of them were a terrible grainy experience

P.S the Quest 2 is far superior. LCD > OLED

The mura in my headset is 10 times worse than that. Its so bad on darker scenes i cant even see whats going on behind it on the actual image. In brighter scenes it makes everything look hazy so nothing is clear or sharp unless it 1 ft in front of you. After some testing i did find that its 2-3 times worse in my left lense than it is in my right lense though. Still worse than whats shown here even in the better right lense though. I think i got a dud. The left lense also has more weird artifacting and a dead pixel.

That really does sound like a bad headset then. Mura is REALLY subtle on mine. I CAN see it in fields of color, but it's at non-issue levels. I'm feeling lucky (no issues, and as soon as I realized how low the halo is supposed to go on the back of my head, the small sweet spot has been easy to lock into), but I do feel for those with issues. Hopefully their QC improves.

Mura is awful on mine, and many responses saying the same on Reddit :(

Turn down brightness to 70 percent and see if it's better. If not get a new unit!

Hi Sebastian, love the channel! I just got my psvr2 and used it about 10 hours in horizon. Before i only used psvr 1 and the picture is better but being hyped for it so long i still expected it to be even better but thats the name of the game i gues. I was an early adopter of psvr1 & 2 because i want to live and see the day that VR is perfect on all fronts and that is only going to happen if we support it. That being said i have one major problem with psvr2 and that is that it does not sit well on my head. Because of the small sweetspot en my small ipd i have to almost tilt the headset forward en because the strap doesnt seem to hold its lock possition as good as psvr1 the headset keeps sagging and the lens edges cut in my nose (sony didnt bother to ad some kind of foam there so this is a very annoying feeling. Because of this its like the headset keeps landing and resting on my nose. I did not have this issue on psvr 1 do and i think its because de padding on your forehead was almost rwice the size of psvr2. Anyone else have this problem and a solution? I hope sony reads this so this doesnt happen when hopefully some day psvr3 comes out! (and yes i will support it again then hoping for the best) Best regards and have fun in vr, greetings Umrix

Same issue regarding it resting in your nose. Something that helped a bit was slightly adjust IPD so lenses are further apart and move the headset forward few milimeters (with the button on the top right). So basically do everything to move it slightly away from the nose as when i was done playing i had a red dent on bridge of my nose.

I think many new comers would be having problems with small sweetspot because they would think this is the real image… thats why we need pancake lenses !

No company that has used pancake lenses has been able to get passed the Quest 2 FOV though which is honestly not great. Also pancake lenses have issues with mirroring images and suffer from lower brightness levels.
Edit: to clarify I think pancake lenses are great and will be even better once they solve those three issues.

Hey man quick question, when you're showing Horizon in your video, does it look that clear and detailed to your eyes, when you're actually playing, like how it's showing in the video? Watching your video on my phone screen, when you're looking at your hand and bow it looks extremely clear and sharp to me though the TH-cam video but not that clear on my actual PSVR2, really hope I can get a response
