I started lifting heavy when I was 13, and I've had absolutely zero back issues whatsoever that would've "put me in a wheelchair" by now as he said it. If anything my back is healthier because I started lifting and strengthening it at a younger age, and I didn't even have a professional lifter like Ed as my father to teach me how to lift correctly...

    I’m a 60 year old athlete. I’ve been weight training since 83 when I was in the Navy and never stopped. I was an Ironman triathlete in my mid 40’s. My son is now 25. This is my opinion. Every article I’ve read on weight training with kids, states pre teens should concentrate on more body weight exercises like pushups, pull ups, core work etc. Their bodies aren’t even developed yet at 11! I totally disagree with having a 11 year old doing 1 rep max lifts with the big 3. It states in legit articles that heavy powerlifting with kids that aren’t even teens yet will affect their growth. Think about what his 1 rep max lifts are doing to his joints. How many push-ups can your son do? How long can he hold a plank? Can he pull his body weight up to a pull up bar? When I was a kid we had the Presidential physical fitness award we had to do in HS. We climbed ropes etc. my generation we stayed outside all day playing. This generation of kids due to social media, cell phones and helicopter parents will produce the most obese generation. Why do you think the armed forces recruiting is down? The majority of these kids couldn’t pass the PFT test and the ASVAB due to their sedentary ways. I love you Eddie! I’ve followed you for a long time! Take it from a Dad who cares. I’ve beat the shit out of my body since I was 18 and now have Osteoarthritis that I deal with and have to adjust my workout accordingly. This is just my opinion. He’s your son. I would hate to see him get hurt or even get burned out. Semper Fortis Eddie.

      really good comment. In my opinion his son should master the basics first. Create good solid foundation with BW exxercises, lighter weights. Good trunk core muscles... Not forcing to do 1RM... 1 mistake and can cost his life and body a lot... His body is developing now, one wrong move and can cost him lifetime damage. I wish him all the best. This is just my point of view. Hope I am wrong and he can do better than his dad !!

How many serious injuryies have you heard of that came from bodyweight pushups squats or pullups? Im not saying lifting is bad not at all I lift weights myself but if you do it with bad form the risk of injury is so much higher then bodyweight exercises like pushups

    • @bonusartist
      @bonusartist 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adampemberton7870 I’m not saying that he does not care for his son, far from it.
      I’m saying the form he is using is not what is recommended for preserving good spine health. Completely accept that Eddie has won WSM and the first man to deadlift 500kg, but that doesn’t mean that this form is ok. As I said it’s a massive feat of strength for an 11 year old, but I worry for his spine. I’ve personally slipped my L5 to S1 and although I now continue to deadlift, it took me a long time to get back there and I’m always extremely careful as micro movements to the discs under load can cause disc herniations and from what I’ve had to deal with for now 10+ years (I’m 34 now), I’d hate to see a boy of 11 have problems with his back early on because he would then most likely be dealing with this issue for the rest of his life. There’s a famous powerlifter called Brian Carroll and also leading spine expert in the world Stuart McGill, who have written a lot about this because Brian had several back problems (disc issues + cracked vertebrae) and Stuart helped him recover and go on to win titles. I can pretty much guarantee they would be concerned at someone deadlifting with this technique, especially a boy of 11 with his whole life to look forward too.

      @@adampemberton7870 i literally said that eddie know what he is doing, but a regular guy knows that a bent spine with heavy weight on can cause backproblems. Would be curious of how coach greg would react to this video.

    Maxi that looked like it hurt. I don't think an 11 year old boys body is supposed to be doing exercises like this. You really don't want to mess up your back. It will effect you for life. Body weight, band and mobility exercises would be a safer more effective type of training until your body is capable of lifting weight like this safely. Look at Magnus Midtbo, the elite rock climber, your dad did a video with him. He is incredibly strong and could match Eddie's lifts. Yet Magnus is a much lighter weight and overall size. He's never been injured.

    That was a spectacle! A special moment when everyone was cheering you on! Something that has aided my deadlift a lot is practicing the power clean. It's basically a deadlift, but the bar goes all the way up to front rack position, very explosively. It should build your coordination a lot and make you way more efficient, and explosive too. You'd probably just use 30 kg, with a pair of those big 5s. That's all you need for now. This way you get to practice the "off-the-ground" part of the deadlift with every rep. A narrow foot stance and hands just outside your legs is ideal, and I don't start bending my legs until I actually start the rep.
