Saw this for $45 at Costco just outside of Denver. Knee jerk reaction was this must not be good with a price that low. Glad to hear it’s a solid choice, especially for that price. Heading back to Costco real quick. I’m digging this thing you and @FirstPhilWhisky have going on. But holy crap, there’s no way he can top that!
I really agree with the Glenglassugh Sandend. I knew nothing about it until I saw it show up in my local Costco about a month ago and I read the box and it sounded good so I took a chance on it and man oh man did I love it right from the jump. That weekend I hit it and just had to keep going back to the bottle for another dram after dram, just didn't want to stop drinking it. Needless to say I didn't feel to well the next day because I normally limit myself to two drams any given night, no matter what I'm drinking, but I just enjoyed it so much. next time we were in Costco, I had to get myself a backup bottle. This one is going to stay on my shelf. So happy to see you name it in your WOTY 2024
I agree with your choice. I tasted it in September at the Whisky Live Paris and it immediately made me happy and smiling. Rachel Barrie was there but unfortunately busy with some officials who gave me no chance to thank her for that creation. I of course have a bottle at home ready to make me smile again, and some more already packed as the perfect Christmas present. Just under 70€ in Paris
Im trying to enhance my home Scotch selections without breaking the bank. I’ve had mostly bourbons, ryes and American single malts in the past. I bought both Sandend and Craigellachie 13 about a month ago based on your reviews. I’m now pleased to know both are among your whisky’s of the year. Both are delicious, I couldn’t be happier with your recommendations. Next up I think I’m going with a Benromach 15. Anyone who enjoys whisky and entertaining content and isn’t watching your channel is missing out. I watch Phil as well, you are both the best out there. Thank you for what you do.
The humor of yours is top of the game. Thank you for this unexpected whisky of the year. It is totally unknown for me,so i have to try it out. Thanks and have a nice Christmas
That's a great value whisky, a good choice. But personally I prefer the Portsoy, and I still have to try the 12yo some time later on. 🍷cheers and Merry Christmas
normally Iam a peat head and drink mostly scotch, lately i've been trying some bourbon and rye. my whisky of the year is Ross & Squibb Distillery - Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey Highest Rye 54,5%. my country have a very bad selection of the american stuff. this was a good one tho, liquid candy very dangerous. I find most bourbon I've tried taste like flower water with some sweet corn (this is a bad thing) the high rye 39% and malted rye 10% makes this a winner
Those bloody swamp donkeys are really dodgey. I have not bought this bottle because I have focused into my core favourites this year and they tend to rhyme with “wingwank” and “swillsharin”. But I believe you. Have a wonderful Christmas and keep up the great content……
It's beautiful. I have it. I love it. I'm skenching it (a Jamaican expression which means sparingly; making it last). Keep it up, Geoff. Here's to 2025.
Glad you're enjoying this one, Victor. An absolute gem of a whisky. Merry Christmas. Hope you and your son enjoy some good pours together over the holiday season. 🥃
from the rep in southern California: they won’t put “non-chill filtered” on the bottle because they reserve the right to chill filter if needed. Specifically they had international complaints of particles of sediment and bottles got returned! So, they chill filter only if deemed needed. She also said, chill filtration has different levels- meaning they can “lightly chill filter (not too cold)”, to remove sediment, but also minimize any loss of flavor quality. As far as added color goes, I didn’t ask 🤦♂️
When I first tried that I didn't like it , too much seaweed taste for me but as I had a few more drams the bottle opened up more and it got much more balanced out . Much better than the Victoriana .
After the WA article it flew off the shelves, in the USA. Then it came back at very high prices, it gathered dust. Recently it has become more available and at a moderate proper price ~$60. Great whisky, but not worth much more than that. I totally agree with you, an extremely well executed whisky that is very enjoyable.
Ya ..Good call Mr G 👍 Roseisle 12 IMO is a bit better but should be, it’s a lot more expensive a bit too expensive , so ..Spot on call . Thanks for a brilliant year of reviews G Top channel 👍🥃
I still need to try this one. I can get it for about $75 USD in my area, so I'd call that reasonably affordable. I saw it on the Scotch menu the last time I was at my favorite BBQ restaurant and now I am kicking myself for not ordering a pour to try. Perhaps I can convince the wife during the holiday break that we need to go have a BBQ lunch and not give her my ulterior motive for craving some brisket. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Cheers!
Glenglassaugh Sandena is a bottle that I may need to tickle my wallet to open for next. So far I tried the Portsoy and it is not too bad. Happy Christmas buddy and enjoy the festivities! I will catch you back next year after I am back from my vacation 😊
Well for me this is a big step up from the Portsoy, and boasts a completely different character. Hope you get a chance to try it and enjoy it. Have a wonderful Christmas yourself, Neil. Happiness and health, sir. 🥃
I wish I lived in the part of Canada that sold this whisky for $70. It's listed at my local Gov. liquor store for $115..... Pre tax..... Vancouver may have the best weather, but we pay more for literally everything. I'll gladly shovel snow if it means 1/2 price Scotch, just saying.... Cheers Geoff, appreciate your efforts to improve the whisky experience for those that can afford it, and for those that can't.... Well, we can always switch to cheap rye.
Ah yeah that's pretty high. Keep in mind I'm quoting US prices though, so the $75 is like CAD $107, which is not an insane bump in price (still not ideal, obvs). The US and Canada are where this is priciest, unfortunately. Well, maybe. Yet to hear from the Australians. Anyway cheers to not shoveling snow! 🥃
Oh wow this is a surprise! I can certainly see this one being liked by a lot of people and it sure is an easy sipper. For me it felt way too sweet but all my other friends really enjoyed it. It has been a good year Geoff, roll on 2025 with bigger and better whiskies!
Interesting choice, unexpected. I tried this in a restarant paired with a lovely cheese plate and it was a positive surprise. I planned to try other stuff too but in the end I just sticked with this one. Definitely not a boring whisky. cheers man ✌🥃
Yaay! GW's WOTY has been revealed and as expected, it is an unexpected pick😊It's around $110 here in Ont. For the flavor profile, minus the Manzanilla and a tad higher abv, it sounds like close to Arran 10? Happy Holidays and a jolly good Christmas to you Geoff.
I'd say this is more salty and buttery, where the Arran 10 is more sweet and fruity. Very different, actually! Both wonderful whiskies, though. Cheers and have a wonderful Christmas yourself! 🎄🥃
Hi Geoff, will you be the host of Gwhisky again next year and why? But seriously (hi Phil) thank you for all the scotch talk and jokes this year, it’s been fun again.
Also if you are ever in Alberta (it’s only 10,000 km from Taiwan) please stop by and I will open a Glenglassaugh 9 year single barrel matured in wine casks AND peated. 🎉

Whoa - my budget pick made it! I remember bringing this to a party and the entire bottle was consumed in maybe an hour - a lot of those people weren't even whisky people! I love how fruity and tropical this whisky is, and for $45, it's really hard to beat. Congrats Glenglassaugh, and another banger review @Gwhisky! BTW, that new top hat glass is 🔥🔥;)

The first Glenglassaugh Sandend just became available at the LCBO in Canada this morning. there is no photo for the bottle and it says it is unpeated and is 50.5% ABV. Retails for $103.50. I purchased a bottle online, and there is over 1,000 bottles available at stores in Ontario today. (1,091 bottles in 70 stores across the province)
