Thanks for this, really great and added to my watchlist/buylist. Would love to see a similar video for your Indicator, Arrow and Eureka collections. Unlike a lot of TH-cam collectors you've actually watched a lot of these movies and it makes the videos even more interesting!
Greetings from Costa Rica. Thanks for showing your amazing collection, and the thing I appreciate the most, is that you have watched them, because it’s annoying watching a collection’s video and listening “I haven’t watched most of these”, because I have watched all of the movies I own, and read all the books I have. So this is a great way to find new movies to watch, because your insights about them were very informative and interesting. Thanks a lot!
This not only makes me like to watch more films in the collection. But also gave me more facts about the films that I saw already. Again, great video and I watched the entire thing.
Thanks so much for doing this Elliot. I really enjoyed it, particularly the fact that you took the time to say a few words about almost every single release. I’d love to see a similar video on your eureka or indicator collections. Cheers
I’ve been meaning to do a dvd and Blu-ray collection overview series. I always enjoy looser videos like this where the thoughts are honest and off the cuff. That’s partially why I do all of mine unscripted. Of course if it’s me talking three hours wouldn’t even get through the first shelf or two…😂
Heaven, I have my TV and limited series collection and I just realized the extraordinary Ingmar Bergman. Watched Fanny and Alexander last night and it is an astonishing realization of a life and how ones childhood sets the way for the choices we make going forward, Autumn Sonata another marvelous account of a dysfunctional family and done in the highest regard. Hope to start my Criterion collection soon, Richard Linklater is another remarkable film director/screenwriter in tune with our youth..Boyhood is basically my story give or take one or two scenes. Can't express my love for cinema and television enough. Thanks again!
Wow! What a collection it is so beautiful in all it's glory! I couldn't imagine owning all these wonderful films.Your collection took my breath away all 3 hours worth. I saw so many films I want to see and own. I live in Montana and obtaining these films in this region is scarse. I own Kwaidan, Onibaba and the Last temptation of Christ my first three! I love your content and your videos. Great job brother keep on keeping on. God bless my friend Elliot! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
I love this collection so much and a huge movie buff. I live eat and breath film. Iam expanding my film taste and refining my taste in the world of film! I am discovering new films I've never heard of or seen. Thanks brother! You earned another bell today.
Masterpiece of a video Elliot almost as long as Yi Yi! 😆 Love how you spend a few minutes with each film. Criterion is getting lazy the digipak’s are MIA lately. You have an amazing collection. Thanks for sharing! Cheers.
I could spend thousands of dollars before I get to the end of this video lol... and I already own many of these. Criterion's packaging and artwork is so sublimely beautiful it hurts! 😍🥰😍🥰 Bless them just for what they've done to preserve and glorify the films of Fellini, Kurosawa, Bergman & Malick, alone! Praying for more Kubrick & PT Anderson from them. Can't wait for Lynch's _Lost Highway_ in October (superior to _Mulholland Dr._ - which _is_ slightly overrated, despite the fact I love it!). I've only just now been slowly upgrading my collection to blu-ray in recent years. How superior are these 4K releases, really?!?
Watching/listening to this at 2AM while I'm making pancakes. Thank you for making this video. There's a lot of criterions that I don't have that I will be ordering later today. Seeing someone with a different taste in movies always helps me expose myself to new movies that I never knew I would love.
I have a focused collecting habit, as in I only collect Japanese cinema (for now) however, seeing that beautiful wall of spines makes me want to the entire collection. I find your videos very informative and satisfying. Although it must be said that not having them in spine or alphabetical order bothers me more than it should xD Thank you Elliot
I respect a focused collecting habit! And you can’t go wrong with Japanese cinema. I can think of many wonderful films from the country. Cheers for watching!
Omg i was literally waiting for your entire criterion collection update and finally it has happened. Can't wait to watch this gradually. Definitely gonna enjoy this 😊😊😊
This is the video I’ve been looking for since I started collecting-thank you for this real treat, Elliot!! Wonder if Daisuke Beppu will do a video like this soon…
This is a great video, Elliot, cheers for taking us on this tour. It's definitely going to be one I'll return to time and again to stick on in the background, as you suggest at the beginning.
Man, you have an absolutely phenomenal film collection. I just discovered Criterion collection at a time when my love for movies has been recently revived. Night of the living dead might be my first pickup. It releases on Halloween in case you’re unaware. I’ll be watching your video for the next couple of days. Thank you very much for sharing mate.
Mine are arranged by spine. I have a mix of DVDs and Blu-rays (including some older editions on DVD). Only have two box sets. Great collection you got there!!!!
You told me that you have over 500 titles and you weren’t kidding. I can’t remember seeing Repo Man or Broadcast News in your collection. I have 9 Criterion DVDs including 3 that have never been released on Blu Ray, Louie Bluie from Terry Zwigoff along with Chasing Amy and Monty Python’s Life Of Brian.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only person with a large Criterion collection not in any particular order! I keep meaning to order it by spine number but I'm too lazy. During this recent Criterion sale I accidentally bought two blu-rays I already owned, so maybe there's something to be said for organization!
You said take a shot every time you repeated a certain word... I figured it must be "criterion" and I wiped out real quick... I came to and there was still an hour of the video remaining! Phew, time flies!
I tend to find it suspicious when someone loves everything. There must be some movies in the Criterion collection that you don't like, or are ashamed to say you don't like.
I find that suspicious too. There are folks with every film released by Criterion that say they like everything. I talk about quite a few in this video that I don’t like but I still keep around. The films I really do not like, I sell on or gift to someone. Thanks for watching!
I think the “ashamed to say you don’t like” is a bit of a toxic trait of this hobby. The minute someone says they don’t like “insert film” they are ostracized. Not at all talking about Elliot here, just how some members of the community can be.
@@superninjapirate19 That's exactly what I meant but I think Elliot knows too well about it, given how cautious he is when he expresses even the tiniest reservations about some movies.
@@superninjapirate19 the CC community is extremely pretentious and insufferable. I was part of an online group and they were so smug about their superiority and dismissiveness over everything from not having your collection in numerical order (an unforgivable sin), fake CC fan covers (again, the utter contempt they had for them was extreme) and talking about some of the duds in the collection. Then I got it. Their entire identity relied on collecting all of the titles, not the actual enjoyment of the films. It was the statement of how they came across to other CC fans. It’s the nerd equivalent of bros working out and showing off how much they can bench press to other bros. There was no joy in the community, just straight up judgement. Basically people you’d never want to hang out with in real life.
Thank you for a great video. I realy like that you talk a little bit about each film. I think about the ones I have seen, and get curious about those I havent. You actually make me want to buy them all. But, no more money unfortunately. All that heaven allows: Wonderfull film!!!!!
WoW! So much to consume. Nice collection. I have so much to say but ill keep it short. Betty Blue is magnificent but I'd also watch Beineix's Diva as a double feature if you've not already seen it. Definitely saw stuff you have that I wish I had & stuff I have that I thought you might have but don't. I always love your lyrically poetic description of films.
Watched this all in one go...Wow! Definitely some stuff to check out. I just started my own CC and am already penniless. Living in Australia, some of these releases are going at exorbitant import prices
Thanks, Elliot. I would love to know what percentage of your films you have actually watched. I get the impression that many people are more into collecting than actually watching.
Hi Hugo. I’m at somewhere between 90-95% watched on my collection, which is much better than it was at one point! It was as low as 50~% once - I’ve increased my watching since then and downsized by collection quite a bit. It’s much better now. Thanks for watching!
Nice collection, Elliot. You've got me beat by a factor of ten, easily. I would recommend you watch "My Life as a Dog" next. I am surprised that you don't have "Kes". It is a great movie; sad, but great. I, too, have "War and Peace" on my to-watch list.
You got quite the collection. I didn't watch the full video but I enjoyed what I saw. Do you have last year at Marienbad? That's the one I want but it's out of print.
That was awesome to listen to while slaving away at work. 😃 I have one criterion disc that you didn't mention. The Wages of Fear. Any interest in picking up that title?
Thanks for listening, Scott! Yes I love Clouzot and The Wages of Fear! I currently have the UK Blu-ray from BFI. I suspect it will get a 4K from Criterion in the near future, which I will upgrade to! Cheers
I’ll dispute Do the Right Thing as Spike Lee’s best film. The 25th Hour is far more off-the-nose, commendably so. It’s themes are also more universal and politically indirect, again to its advantage. DTRT is a fine film, but its attitude wears thin on multiple viewings. The 25th Hour enlightens increasingly more on each viewing. Thanks for taking the time to do this video, Elliot. It’s great!
Thanks for sharing your remarkable collection Elliot. Whatever you do do not total what you have spent on these!!! I have a collection of some 418 4K titles and I made the mistake of hitting the stats button in the app that I use to log them, which also shows £££🤒🤒😂 The question I have for you is, if Criterion or another distributor were to rerelease any of these titles in 4K, would you replace them, or are you happy with the Blurays, as quiet a few are from 4K restorations to start with. Which begs the question is the film a viable future 4K release?? I’ve purchased the 4K Criterion releases to kickstart my Criterion collection, I know Most of the titles will probably not see the light of day in 4K even though they were restored in 4K for the Blu-ray releases…shame really.
Hi Elliot, I have recently starting watching your channel. Thank you for your great uploads. May I ask what Blu-ray player you use please and if you recommend it? (my current player just plays reg B). Also do you have any tips please on the best ways to purchase US Blu-rays from the UK without incurring additional charges? Thanks Elliot
When talking about The French New Wave, the first two directors that pop up are Truffaut and Godard. But what I find interesting is that the better FNW directors are the more underrated ones in my opinion. My personal favourites are Agnes Varda and Louis Malle.
Why don't you order them by release-date, Criterion is so kind to put them on the front cover. In the meantime you will get a great traing in movie history, it's great to see what films were released in the same year ...
Great video Eliot! What 4K player do you have? Because I own a lot of movies I've bought from other countries that I can't watch because I don't have a region free player for blu rays although I can watch 4Ks because they're of course region free.
Credit to you for having the patience to go through all those films, and then edit all the footage together! This is the video I needed to unwind this weekend! Now...How about doing the same with Arrow Video? (JK...Unless you actually want to do it!)
half way through... already wrote down 34 items I need to purchase, so far got 13 in my amazon basket. I got a message for you from my wallet: It says it hates you!!! ;)
I only own 5 or 6 Criterion releases (not entirely sure how many) but every one I own I absolutely love. Any more I should grab? (I own Silence Of The Lambs, Throne Of Blood, the Yojimbo Sanjuro set and the cases for House Cronos and The Devil's Backbone (saw TDB without working subtitles, fun)
Hey Elliot. What are some Criterion releases that you wish had a 4k release? I hope grand budapest hotel gets a 4K release but not sure if it ever will.
Hi Elliot. What is your preferred way of importing Criterion’s from across the pond, I recently had a good experience with Amazon US importing Raging Bull 4k and got it for a good price. 😀
Great collection. I can't help but notice that you don't have "A Night to Remember," (1958) directed by Roy Baker which is also in the Criterion Collection. Outstanding film, based up the Walter Lord book of the same name published in 1955 about the last hours of the RMS Titanic. I highly recommend it and in lots of respects, it is better than the Cameron film.

Wow! Great job mate
Great job, the list is actually smaller than I thought he had.
Amazing shelf & collection
Thanks so much!
You give us the real feeling of having a masterpiece in hand.
Hehe my pleasure!
It's brilliant that you managed to say something useful about every movie! Not a lot of collectors could do that.
A whole vid on your entire Criterion Collection. We won.
Hehe thanks! Everybody wins!
I got my first Criterion today , A Brighter Summer Day. One of my favourite films.
Thanks for this, really great and added to my watchlist/buylist. Would love to see a similar video for your Indicator, Arrow and Eureka collections. Unlike a lot of TH-cam collectors you've actually watched a lot of these movies and it makes the videos even more interesting!
What an extraordinary collection. If I went to someone's house and saw that shelf, I'd never leave haha.
That thumbnail is brilliant! (and so is your CC collection)
Thanks Vanessa! I hope you’re doing well
This not only makes me like to watch more films in the collection.
Of course if it’s me talking three hours wouldn’t even get through the first shelf or two…😂
Watching the Before sunrise trilogy today with my wife. I wonder if I'll see that somewhere in this, Elliot. What a tremendous collection.
Aww thanks A A!
The sunrise trilogy is right at the start of the video. LOL!! Not too hard to miss
Around about 7:15 mins.
Hi Cullin, thank you so much for the kind comment. It means a lot to me. Cheers for watching!
I love this collection so much and a huge movie buff. I live eat and breath film. Iam expanding my film taste and refining my taste in the world of film! I am discovering new films I've never heard of or seen. Thanks brother! You earned another bell today.
Had this playing and my 3 year old daughter asked if I was watching Paddington hahaha.
Thanks for your dedication! Represent ‘91!
Thanks for getting me interested in criterion. Bought a few during the sale. Just wish they had more in 4K
My pleasure. Thanks for watching, Toby!
Cheers for watching!
any particular reason why you only collect Japanese cinema?

Omg i was literally waiting for your entire criterion collection update and finally it has happened. Can't wait to watch this gradually. Definitely gonna enjoy this 😊😊😊
Wonderful video, very relaxing!
This is the video I’ve been looking for since I started collecting-thank you for this real treat, Elliot!! Wonder if Daisuke Beppu will do a video like this soon…
Loved this. Wish my Criterion collection was this big

@@ElliotCoen story of my life 🤣
Omg that ordering “system” is absolute madness haha!
Awesome video. I was won over when I saw The Apu Trilogy. I'll be looking up many of them.
I wish I had all those movies you have on the movie shelf in my room
I needed this more than you’ll ever know.
Bravo! Fantastic collection Elliott thank you for sharing.
I order my criterions by release date/year.
My collection starts with Passion of Joan of Arc and now ends with Drive my Car.
I do the same. Mine starts with The Kid. I also separate digipacks, box sets and standard cases like in this video
Beautiful collection.
I have On the Waterfront by Criterion. I like it very much. I especially like the black and white shots of Old New York.
Ambitious video here friend! Excited to watch it
Absolutely insane effort here, I instantly favorited this video lol
Yeah I don't get the mentality of buying every single release from a label
Amazing collection and video, but my brain is like.. please organize them somehow! Any way at all! 😂
Thank you for a great video. I realy like that you talk a little bit about each film. I think about the ones I have seen, and get curious about those I havent. You actually make me want to buy them all. But, no more money unfortunately. All that heaven allows: Wonderfull film!!!!!
Jeez,i wish i've had ambitious massive Criterion collection films is sacks in a lines packin up on a filmshelf just like your movie collection
Very entertaining video. Thank you for sharing your collection.
Watched this all in one go...Wow!
Definitely some stuff to check out. I just started my own CC and am already penniless. Living in Australia, some of these releases are going at exorbitant import prices
MY EXCITEMENT when I saw this uploaded!!! OMG
just the notification for this video made me so happy :)
I'm not a man who falls easily into the traps of envy.....but goddamn, I want your collection! You should send it to me! Now! 😁
Awesome collection. I am also annoyed by the size of the Citizen Kane box size
Samurai Trilogy was pretty great, especially Part 3.
what a great collection. superkool👏🏼
The 4K Colors Trilogy has been rumored by The Discfather just last week. He didn’t have a release date, but yes it should be soon!
Wow that's really nice. I also don't keep my collection in any specific order. Chronological by purchase if anything
Hi Maciek! I do have Last Year at Marienbad but not on a Criterion disc. I have the Studiocanal Blu-ray. A great enigmatic film! Cheers

I love that. Thank you!
Can't wait to watch this 😊
That was awesome to listen to while slaving away at work.
It’s great!
Really enjoyed this! Things definitely started to speed up about halfway through though lol
Haha yes, I must have noticed the time and thought to hurry it up a bit 😁
I wish i had an entire room to lodge my endless collection of Dvds and blu ray discs
Hey thanks for doing this man. Love these long form collection videos, adding so much stuff to the watchlist
My pleasure, thanks for watching, Harvey!
Glad I found this channel, subbed!
Great collection bro.
Thanks for sharing your remarkable collection Elliot. Whatever you do do not total what you have spent on these!!! I have a collection of some 418 4K titles and I made the mistake of hitting the stats button in the app that I use to log them, which also shows £££🤒🤒😂
The question I have for you is, if Criterion or another distributor were to rerelease any of these titles in 4K, would you replace them, or are you happy with the Blurays, as quiet a few are from 4K restorations to start with. Which begs the question is the film a viable future 4K release??
I’ve purchased the 4K Criterion releases to kickstart my Criterion collection, I know Most of the titles will probably not see the light of day in 4K even though they were restored in 4K for the Blu-ray releases…shame really.
Elliot you should do a new updated one
Good idea! I’ll start planning
@@ElliotCoen Thank You believe it or not Ive seen it to many times to get ideas on what to but next. BTW love your channel Keep it up 👍
Hi Elliot, I have recently starting watching your channel. Thank you for your great uploads. May I ask what Blu-ray player you use please and if you recommend it? (my current player just plays reg B). Also do you have any tips please on the best ways to purchase US Blu-rays from the UK without incurring additional charges? Thanks Elliot
Cheers Dude. Great effort and helpful.
Great collection, good man
When talking about The French New Wave, the first two directors that pop up are Truffaut and Godard. But what I find interesting is that the better FNW directors are the more underrated ones in my opinion. My personal favourites are Agnes Varda and Louis Malle.
Menace II Society man 😎 great video Elliot 👍
Also if you would like to do a livestream on my channel hit me up man 👍
Why don't you order them by release-date, Criterion is so kind to put them on the front cover. In the meantime you will get a great traing in movie history, it's great to see what films were released in the same year ...
That's how I organize mine too
Beautiful collection. You have all the great ones. When did you start collecting?
plot twist, its actually just 1000 copies of Barry Lyndon
For the heck of it I got the most romantic and recommended film on the last day of the sale!
Great video Eliot! What 4K player do you have? Because I own a lot of movies I've bought from other countries that I can't watch because I don't have a region free player for blu rays although I can watch 4Ks because they're of course region free.
Hi Harrison. My player is the now discontinued Oppo UDP 203. It’s a 4K player that’s been modified to be region free for blu-rays too! Cheers
Ah yeah I heard about that one. Are there any other region free players that you'd recommend? Would like it to have Dolby Vision as well. Thanks
I hope grand budapest hotel gets a 4K release but not sure if it ever will.
this video made me look at my own criterions and think damn, i own this
Please a make a list of movies with nest extras/commentary.
Hi Elliot. What is your preferred way of importing Criterion’s from across the pond, I recently had a good experience with Amazon US importing Raging Bull 4k and got it for a good price. 😀
2 and half hours of this is Elliot going on about how much he likes Barry Lyndon.
Hi bro, do you think it is important to keep the blue stickers with the directors' signatures that come in some Criterion?
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support, Afandi!!
i was about to put your video in the background while i was working, but i wind up watching the whole thing and nothing was done after all lol.
Hi Elliot. Fantastic collection of Criterion releases. Did you sell most of the rest of your collection?
Watching with envy.
Fascinating in this particular video ,audio quietb
This is my dream
