Scarlett Johansson joins BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb to look back on life as Avenger Natasha Romanov ahead of Marvel's Black Widow. Unlike Chris and Robert, whenever Scarlett talks about Black Widow's death you can tell she would have been fine with going on a bit longer. It's a shame they killed her off because she suited the team leader role in Endgame.

I never thought about the fact that Scarlett had to get a call that she was gonna die in Endgame. Chris and Robert kinda made the call it seems like so it wasn’t as much of a shock to them I imagine, but that had to be kinda shocking for her to hear that.
SAME. I knew that RDJ and Chris Evans chose to leave so they could do other things and I assumed Scarlett did the same thing. It's kind a sad that we could've kept her in the MCU

I remember crying so much in the theater when she died. Never cried like that watching a movie. It was like my childhood died with her. It was amazing to grow up with her as a role model in superhero movies for young girls like me.

Take Something as "less significant" as High School. My last day walking through those doors gave me all the feels. Same with college. Same with relocating to another city or neighborhood.

i'm sure there's a part of her that's glad she's leaving. the black widow movie was the best thing that could have happened to her, because it was the first movie where her character was given an actual storyline & was not constantly sexualized. she's been dealing with sexist, disrespectful questions for the last 10 years because she was portrayed as just the hot girl that gets to play with the guys. i hope she can get away from that & star in roles that really showcase her versatility as an actress.
seeing scarlett's name as the executive producer made me sooo proud of her, absolutely LOVED THE MOVIE and her as well as everyone else. Cant believe this is her last time, but I will miss her so much!!! and she will always be the one and only black widow PERIOD🙂🤎

As sad as it is that Natasha is now dead in the MCU, a decade is a long time for anyone. Scarlett's only 36 so she still has tons of years ahead in her career; I think she's ready to move on to other projects. And even without Black Widow, Scarlett already has an enormous acting resume filled with plenty of other roles she's played. But who knows? We could see her again in the MCU someday if an opportunity arises

I agree. Black Widow's death in Endgame was not technically "fridging" because it was the character's own resolve. The thing that bums me tho is that she didn't have a proper funeral scene unlike Tony who had a dedicated one. Her death was just in passing talked by Wanda and Clint.
She had the scene by the lake where each of the original Avengers goes through the stages of grief and on top of that, Hawkeye covered the topic really well

it's rare seeing an interview where an actor/actress gets to speak without constantly being interrupted.
Ali Plumb is one of the best interviewers around. If you have time, you should check out his series of interviews “Movies That Made Me”, there are videos on youtube, but there are extended episode versions on BBC iPlayer, he’s an excellent interviewer.
After a decade, its hard imagining anyone else than Scarlett as Natasha. Actually it implies for entire marvel. Thor, Iron Man, Captain America. Their actors are set in my mind.

Just watched Black Widow n I'm in tears right now, loved the movie, the journey of Natasha is incredibly but I really want to see black widow again n again onscreen, It's very difficult seeing my favorite avengers saying goodbye to MCU Ironman, Captain America n Black Widow it is just really hard, 😢😢😢😢Reallly Gonna miss all of them. 😥😥

@Bailey Jones Agreed, I had never thought about it but I'd say if Black Widow had been made a few years ago it would have revolved around some lost love of Natasha's or something, I mean in a way that is what BW is about but it's about familial love instead of romantic and that fits so much more with her character. It's sad that it's the only movie like that that we get from her though.

I guess there's a possibility of a cameo but I doubt it. There will be more of Yelena though, because of that post-credits scene. I think she'll have a big role in Hawkeye.

Scarlett was meant for this role. Seeing how much she really loved Natasha and playing Natasha just makes me so happy. She is the perfect Black Widow and it hurts that she always talks about being sad over Nat’s death, like she would’ve went longer with it. Then we hear about her secret Marvel project with Feige and now I’m convinced (and clowned) myself that she’s coming back for the Multiverse Saga🫠
Ok this is one of the best interviews, the way she says every word is so perfect in describing what she is trying to express. Black Widow has always been one of my favourites because of everything she has said.
She was kind of stumbling about the mysoginy in that she never really talked about that or any politicized content - until now. And her bit about wage gap is contradictory as she one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood.
It is a good interview because in most interviews whether is by a female or a male they always ask her about her body, the outfit, fashion or sexual questions like are you wearing underwear underneath and she hates it. Check out an interview compilations where she avoiding sexual questions thrown at her.
Just finished watching the movie. Well done, Marvel. What a comeback to big screen cinema! And so relevant as well.
Myles Disney and Marvel down played Scarlet to set up Pugh to take her sister role which is wrong on all levels plus gave a actress who people has no character plus wit on / off the film a solo film before black widow. I'm after today my second time watching black widow will be my last marvel movie

Black widow was actually my first MCU film I watched ever in theaters because I watched it out of respect for Scarlett Johansson and Honestly I’m glad it was my first I enjoyed the film and l love Scarlett playing black widow and as many people say no one can play the character like she can and that’s true because o felt bad for her dying in endgame like that and then getting a origins movie after and then having it delayed for over a year. The movie reached out to me like it did with everybody else I was watching it with in the theaters there was that closure for black widow even though it was an origin story it was the best way to say goodbye to the character and I loved Scarlett Johansson contribution to everything she puts into black widow and she did a fantastic job outstanding performance, she is a legend and legends never die. Thank you Natasha Romanoff and Scarlett Johansson for bringing smiles, hope, and joy to everybody.

I love how after she seemed sad after talking about the endgame scene, the interviewer started talking about the blooper reels which made her smile. And it's a very relatable favourite blooper reel as well especially during the winter soldier one with chris evans and the "Steve, we got a bogey short range ballistic" line lol

It's a thing in Hollywood to never directly discuss other actors in terms of who got the role, who didn't get the role, etc. The only thing you can really say is it you auditioned for the role and didn't get it, as that makes for a self-deprecating story.

It's only because I like Scarlett that I think she doesn't need to be in Blockbuster anymore, and she shouldn't be. She should pursue her acting in films like Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. She can be a much better actress.
She has been a working actor for 30 years and her breakout was with Lost in Translation, which she did when she was 17-18. I think she had had already proved herself before Marvel.

When i watched her death in endgame, every scene after that feels like a fever dream. I never expected it and definitely haven't moved on. There's just so much spectacle in the movie, I would yell and celebrate and get excited but in the back of my mind, Nat should've been there, fighting with them. :( I watched the Black Widow movie last night and I am still missing her. Getting emotional and then they talk about her bloopers! :D
