The first 75% is at such a slow pace, its easy to make the fioritura sound good. Much better tempo in the last 25%, however he is out of sync with the orchestra a Few times. Runs that ascended were always behind the tempo, and the ones that moved by larger intervals were labored. The descending runs in general pretty nice.
He also has that "Ive got a big passage or high note coming up, so, I'm not going all that's written so that I can have a few bars of rest" thing.
I am *always* disappointed in singers who do that - if you can't do the aria without a break --- don't sing the rôle.

The music is marked andante and moderato in 2/3 sections, so the tempo is fine. I’d much prefer a singer have clear and accurate coloratura at a slower tempo instead of doing it fast enough ti not notice that it’s actually messy. It also takes as much if not more breath control to sing the passages at slower tempos, so it’s not easier in every way.
Also, basically every singer, even golden age ones cut out phrases to prepare for the ending high note. Pavarotti basically always did it whenever he sung any cabaletta, as well as most sopranos in something like sempre libera. That doesn’t mean that you have to like it, but it’s asinine to complain and say that they shouldn’t sing the aria.

The aria is sung slowly -- so that he can manage the runs.
Irrespective of who else uses the same tricks. Tebaldi's Sempre libera is a yawn fest.
She doesn't have a C -- and there are a *few* -- plus Dbs....so she sang it slow, and pitched down.
Florez here is boring, and that's how I feel.

@@rugby8-Philadelphia you clearly lack understanding. Other than maybe the first section, every section is within the acceptable range of the tempos provided in the score. Faster coloratura isn’t necessarily better or easier. I have no idea why you brought up Tebaldi because I made no mention of her. You’re entitled to your opinion but still I question your competence in judging these singers.
