rossini mostly wrote the last notes as a lower note but allowed singers to take the high one if they wished

@@tylernguyen7988 Is there any evidence that he did? I have read many times that Rossini hated it when a singer changed what was written in the score.

@@andrzejzborowski4920 since is still belcanto era, if Rossini wrote a lower note at the end, it means he wanted it so. He normally wrote the higher note before the very end of the piece. On the contrary, verismo composers tend to do the opposite. I suppose that nowadays we're influenced by the verismo way of singing, so most singers sing the higher octave in the end, if possible.

Michael Spyres - it is mentioned in the description. Unfortunately not in the title.

This sounds nothing like the Michael Spyres I thought I knew... recording sounds old too

He didnt need the final high"C" & it was forced.

Its not uncommon in this piece. Its like how the Di Quella Pira note is actually a G4, but obviously everyone does the C5 cause it sounds better. Its not just assumed like that here but people do it. But yeah this is a fairly heavy opera for rossini so his voice was definitely a bit tired by the end.

Literally every recording of Rossini on TH-cam sounds like trash.

@@FriendlyCroock ohh my bad I see. Yeah it's surprising how even the very modern recordings (e.g spyres) here are very low quality.
