I don't care about the wheels, I care about if they're going to exclusive to Wal-Mart or everywhere.
As a hot wheels collector, I think it's super cool that they are bringing them back. The only down side is our hobby is being ruined by scalpers. It's so hard to find anything worth buying in the store.

If people didn’t buy from scalpers, they would cease to exist. The FOMO is real.
I'm all for the new CM6 wheels! I've said this a lot, but it means we're a step closer to Acceleracers rereleases! But in the context of a Speed Machines revival, they look great! I love the use of them on the Zonda R. With that era of car, it really feels right at home with the original series
the plastic wheels make it roll better, that's what I like about them. They're both stylish and practical!

I honestly prefer the plastic CM wheels, they are making this new mix an authentic continuation to the Speed Machines line instead of just a homage, also, they are still 2 piece wheels, so, at least to me, they are still premium wheels
I can’t wait to get them!
It's amazing to have these wheels back. Honestly, they lack a bit of detail compared to the old ones but I guess that's how things work, everything sky rocketed in price so its to be expected. And the fact that people don't claim this premium cause it don't have rubbers means they know absolutely nothing about how expensive these wheels were back in the day and probably still are. Overall, its an amazing set and I love to have the speed machines name back. Looking forward to more mixes on this!
Wheels aren’t an issue for me. They are historically accurate. I’ll be looking for that GT LM and the 911’s. The chase looks killer!

If theyre charging premium prices for plastic wheels, we're on a slippery slope
Yeah for the same price this sucks to be honest They’re not better than premium so ether they put rubber tires or don’t call them premium It’s a pass for me seems like hot-wheels is taking advantage of the hype and milking the cow until people start to leave the hobby same with the elite 64 27$ for that nope pass to.That should be max a 15$ car. The only worth ones for me at least are the rlc and not all to be honest it’s better to collect the vintage hot wheels because at the end of the day this newer cars are being mass-produce and when the hobby slows down this cars will cost less than the retail price
They've been doing that since long ago, so it has already been a slippery _cliff fall_ from the start
They have always been since the existence of Ferrari Racers and yet they were loved among communities back then
Couldn’t of said it better myself. More they’re gonna get away with now.
These wheels are 2 pieces and some times 2 steps on deco as well. You're fooling yourself thinking they're scaming you by charging the same price. It can very well be even more expensive to make these "Plastic" wheels other than the rubber ones. Back in the day there was this lore that they lost money for every single 350z that came out on mainline with these wheels.
I think collectors are forgetting that these aren’t made only for adult collector. It’s “hot wheels” not tarmac or kyosho 🤦🏻
Absolutely… love these for display most of the time… running one down the track once in a while too
But these are pretty expensive though, for what they really are. Yeah hot wheels are toys at the end of the day but $6.50 US a pop...I might have second thoughts about giving these speed machines to my kid, especially with these scalpers buying premiums like hotcakes.
I think it would be very fitting that since these were initially developed for Acceleracers and then came to Speed Machines, we could see the new CM6 wheels that were made for the new Speed Machines release to be used for a small rerelease/special set of Acceleracers. Something that's interesting to me is on the MattelCreations NFT roadmap, for Q2 of 2023, it says, "Collect a fan favorite: Return to a beloved Hot Wheels realm, with new digital cars and an ultra-exclusive diecast." In the Acceleracers movies, the tracks were called Realms, so maybe just MAYBE they could show up as NFT cars soon? I know a lot of Acceleracers fans would likely fork over the cash for NFT packs if it meant some of those cars returned as an extremely limited run line.
I noticed the specific use of the word "realm" in that roadmap too, it really got my hopes up for a rerelease of some sort

I say without the CM6 wheels there would be no point in bringing these back, they wouldn't be Speed Machines anymore. Its not budget cuts, its not anything sleazy, its just keeping it authentic to the original line. Besides they still have the metal on metal build, full paint detail, and Ive seen RLC cars use plastic wheels too.

Me, at least for me it's better with plastic wheels as I sometimes use them on tracks and the line is literally called Speed Machines
Doesn't bother me, rubber tires are overrated, the plastic tires look good.
Finally, a hotwheels premium that don't suck at track 🤣 because the tires

I personally prefer cm6 wheels over real riders, especially the old cm6 ones; Fell in love with them at first sight
Very cool that they brought back the speed machines back. As far as the tires go.. Well as a collector of course I would've liked rubber tires. We have to remember. These are TOYS made in mind for kids. Us "grownups" have made it into something else. So like you said plastic tires are for the track. To do exactly that gain speed on the track. I like them. I do wish they had kept that color matching trim on the wheel. ✌🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
There is a growing community of Hot Wheels racers that appreciate the plastic wheels for the speed on a metal/metal casting. More of this please, Mattel. Lots of us want to race the premiums! And before anyone comments, yes, I wheel swap premiums all the time to race them but it would be nice to buy them that way so I can race them right out of the package rather than have to wheel shop & swap first.

Acceleracers would be of course the best though
My one reason for collecting Car Culture more dedicatedly than mainlines is because of the metal base and rubber tyres. So I am slightly upset that these new wheels don't have rubber tyres, but I also understand why. It's a very nice and truthful modern take on the 2010 Speed Machines and I'm glad that the Porsche GT3 and Ford GT have very period-appropriate liveries as well. I'm definitely looking forward to getting this whole set.
Where is the Porsche livery from?
@@alpollo1004 it's not from any specific car. What I meant was the livery is very close to what you'd find on cars from the 2010 Speed Machines line. And also, the livery very much seems inspired by/ bears a striking resemblance to the 992 GT3 956 Le Mans tribute car.
I am happy the wheels stayed plastic like the original wheels. I think it would have been nice to have rubber tires on the CHASE car and you would have been able to satisfy both versions of the tires. I didn't collect the speed machines when they came out, wish I would have. I will be collecting the new series speed machines.
I don't think the cold mold wheels are so great that it makes up for plastic tires. I mean, make excuses for the cost all you want, but plastic on plastic on plastic isn't expensive.

About 2 weeks ago I looked at an Autoworld & was like “bro this car looks so dang good even WITH the plastic wheels!” I think as long as the actual wheels are in uniform or semi-period correct with the car, it will turn out to be a banger. Hot-wheels does a good job of doing that. I need these yesterday

I couldn’t care less it the wheels are plastic or rubber. Rubber doesn’t necessarily make the wheels better. All Tomica Premium models have plastic wheels yet they look better than most “premium” models Hot Wheels puts out. I think it is cool that Hot Wheels is paying homage to the speed machines line in this way and since it is part of Car Culture I will be buying this set.
I managed to pick the McLaren and Ford up in the wild here in the UK.
£8 GBP over here.
The ford livery looks very similar to the Gran Turismo 4 cover car.
Just looked it up. Very similar and it’s a number 4.
They're cutting the budget on the wheels for this set, I wouldn't be surprised if they start doing this for other types of sets too and maybe even cut the budget for more things.

Definitely wishful thinking on my end, but I think as long as the plastic tires stay with the Speed Machine line, then I don't take issue with it. The whole thing with that tied the series together where the wheels to begin with and I can see that fit the whole bit with Car Culture as a whole, considering the reach HW has in that sense. Outside of that though, and then there will be major issues, I'd reckon.

The Lamborghini Veneno was used in the 2016 Entertainment: Gran Turismo set.
I don't have a problem with it i think they are fantastic!
I'm buying two from the set
10:30 The "Ford GT" text looks crisper and cleaner on the old casting. One of the problems I have with modern Hot Wheels casting, is though the tampos tend to be more detailed, Mattel doesn't do a really good job in making them. Some of the modern tampos look like they were printed by a cheap inkjet printer.
The Pagani Zondas this year have been my favourite. Love the simple details.

Real Rider tires actually slow the cars down on a track. It can't be Speed Machine fast without plastic tires, and they are FAST.

I have that McLaren and countach somewhere from when I was a kid. My mom got me them for Christmas but I remember she originally said 3 dollars was too much considering I only ever bought 1 dollar cars. Would love to buy some again but not at the current prices

Mark Jones designed the originals. The next time you could compare the CM6 with the PC6, which were a 2 piece plastic wheels. Those PC6 were used in the 90s FAO Schwarz and Treasure Hunts

I much prefer the plastic tire they can last longer than a rubber.
The white "4" Ford is identical to the version in the 2018 Gran Turismo range, on PR5s with no rear light details.
You're too kind & polite about calling the Veneno an Aventador, because the car was derived from the Aventador, as was the SCV12 Essenza. No need to make apologies.
I'm lucky to own one SM original model, which was the burned orange McLaren F1GTR without racing deco
I never realized that some wheels are plastic & some rubber, until today 🤔. My focus is the look of the car 🤷🏾♂️. I use to have Tyco & AFX race track sets…& I remember those cars having rubber tires for traction…it shouldn’t matter for Hotwheels, in my opinion. 🏎

I am trying to find the answer to why this should exist. I don't care for it. Not sure this weird tier of diecast has a place. Competing companies give you so much more for the same price point and none of the bullshit of dealing with Mattel's product pipeline.

If you're so upset about mattel like this, do yourself a favor and leave the products alone. Nobody is forcing you to buy. Or be a grown man and understand how things work in the business and accept what they send you. Whining about it on the internet but buying it anyway won't make you feel better.
I enjoy both series and I remember I enjoyed the old ones as well, when they were launched in 2010-2011!
Good point on the F1 GTR. That would have been nice. Especially for those of us that don’t have any from the older mixes. I’m sure we will see it if they continue with this series. Which I’m sure they will. Maybe even a spin-off from Car Culture. As for the wheels, I’m fine with them as a homage to the past, but it definitely would have been nicer with real rider tires. I mean the wheel itself is homage enough.
Not bothered at all. I think I may prefer the wheels. The wheels look realistic and have plenty of detail. They also roll much better than rubber wheels.

Alot of people forgot about the birthday card series of cars,cool classics and modern classics, all these had cars with special deco's but more often than not had plastic tyres or some form of cheap rubber that was indictive of plastic.

I think the 720s must be based on the Daniel Ricardo’ personal 720s.
I hate Real Rider wheels. I race the cars in tournaments so I'm still trying to find the new ones out in the wild.
Even though I personally won't collect this set, I have no problem with the plastic wheels. Obviously it's a direct descendant of the original Speed Machines line so it makes perfect sense to keep those wheels. They're not bringing back Speed Machines as its own separate line so they're putting it into Car Culture, which you may disagree with that decision, but I don't see it as a problem. It's not a budget cut, and as mentioned in the video, the other Car Culture sets for the year are looking very promising.

I was bothered that the 2010 Speed Machines mostly had plastic chassis* a lot more than I am bothered that the new Car Culture Speed Machines have plastic wheels. Some of my favourite Hot Wheels in my collection, like the silver Shell livery Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona from the 2007 Ferrari Racers series, have the same "Comold" wheels.
* That's excluding the full-metal Ferrari 575GTC, the only full-metal Speed Machine I have (there may have been a couple of others; was there a 360 Modena? The regular 360 Modena casting was always full-metal). There was also that weird Audi R8 casting that had the metal chassis but the plastic body; I really wish that Mattel would've given it a metal body for Speed Machines.

What makes you think that these wheels aren't as much or even more expensive than the rubber ones? Why'd you think they never put them in no line at all in 10 years? Because they are expensive as fuck. 2 piece plastic glued one by one with sometimes 2 different colors deco on them, ON ALL 4 WHEELS. Think about it for a second, they being plastic does NOT mean they're cheap. At all.
The real missed opportunity was the 720 should have been the P1!
The old speed machines generation had the F1!
The new speed machines generation should have kicked off with the F1’s replacement, the P1 in a matching deco!
It makes too much sense, plus the P1 has been in premium so we know the tooling out there.

would've loved either the Mclaren F1 GTR too or even the Gallardo, instead of 720s/Veneno. Something like the Pininfarina Battista would've suited the line too.

I've never really understood the fascination with real rider tires. The ones from the 90s are not attractive. That being said, I really like the comold wheels from the 1995 treasure hunt series. The spoked wheels look much better and they have a thinner tire side wall. Car culture has been a big success. I collect some of the car for their full tampos and the rim design. The rubber tires doesn't add much. So yes I think these speed machines with the co mold wheels is the right choice. It will be interesting to see which cars they pick for the next mix.

As a collector, honestly, I’d prefer ever wheels, we’re spending the same money as a regular premium that has rubber wheels, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be included on these models. They have the research and technology to include the same rim design, but add a rubber tire around it. It’s part of the car culture line, there’s never been a car culture vehicle with plastic wheels. Why start now because you’re introducing an old set again? if you’re going to introduce the old set, they’ve done a good job, but add rubber wheels, keep the same value. We’re paying more for a product is missing one less component than the previous.
