Very clear and concise, thank you! I've been street shooting since the early 1970s (I'm 67) and swing between film and digital. Looking to master settings so I can just focus on the world at large.
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a lot to contend with as a beginner (modern cameras are way more complex than old ones) but take it in baby steps and you'll eventually have your own set-up preferences.
Having just bought my XT3, I found your clarity and recommendations super helpful for street photography! I am more familiar with Nikon dslr so switching over to Fujifilm ain’t immediately easy. Thanks!
I feel you. I had a similar experience being familiar with Canon. This video was a while back so I’m glad it still has some relevancy. No doubt you’ll shift it to find your own methods too. Thanks, Gavin!
This was really helpful actually. Wrapping my head around setup for street has been a bit frustrating. I especially liked that last part where you described your process for focusing in different street situations. If you are on the move do you stay in manual focus mode and use back button focus? Or, do you set up zone focusing?
Thanks Charlie. Since making this video I’ve gradually switched to only using zone focus, as long as it’s day time. I’m generally set to f8 and about 7 feet on the 23mm, pretty much everything is in acceptable focus unless it’s really close. If I was to use a longer lens I’d stick with autofocus though. Simplifying things is tough when you’re still figuring it out, but enough fiddling over time and you’ll find what works for you ✌️
It might seem banal to you to go through your settings, but someone new to Fujis like myself it's good to see how I'm getting on with settling in to standard settings. Not quite there yet. Just the kind of video too for getting awareness of unfamiliar settings. Beginning to want to cut down the choices rather than leave them open for flexibility. It's reassuring to see someone who's established their craft and done something similar. I have to subscribe now because I've watched a good few of your videos. Many thanks!
Thank you, Jeff! When I look back to when I made this video I feel like I thought I’d established my craft but have since learned I knew very little 🤦🏻♂️ although my menu settings are still relatively similar. So maybe I had that part figured out :) I appreciate the sub!
Thanks for the tips Liam. I lucked out and picked up a X Pro 2 Graphite new for $1200 about a 17 months ago over at Mike's Camera on 38 the and Wadsworth. Love it! They are a good place to check for used gear as well. I also shoot micro 4/3 and got the Olympus 17 mm for $150. Check them out if you are still in Denver.
Nice one. I love a graphite x-pro. Might be one of my favorite cameras I’ve used. I’ve been to Mikes in the Springs but not been in the Denver one yet.
Thank you, a lot of good info in this video. Regarding your Classic Chrome settings, I'm new to Fujifilm, so couldn't I just use your recipe in a custom setting pithing the Q button? Hope you are well during this crazy time!
Very informative vid! My question: not discussed in the vid but I think I see in the menu you have af mode to "all"? Can you explain if (and why) you prefer this above the other modes?
Thanks Tom. It’s so when I click the focus lever I can scroll through from a single point to the “wide” setting. I very rarely change it from single point but I like having all the options readily available. Sorry I missed talking about that.
ahhh I wish i had all those extra buttons in my X-T100 :c or just the extra settings to customize my D-Pad It's really efficient changing from ES to MS using the D-Pad, yes the quick menu is a thing but I want everything to be pressed. anywayas good video man! :D
@@TheLiamGordon yeah :( now I understand why pro uses camera with bunch of buttons xd so far I really don't use that much of those buttons but I really want that dedicated AFL button, since my XT100 don't have it I reprogram the Fn button to function as an AFL xd a bit weird to press but it works! I'll be watching your vids tomorrow since its quite late in my time around 2am xd thanks for the reply, you definitely deserve more views and subscriber with your dedication and hard work!
Thank you so much! Hopefully the channel will keep growing :) Yeah at first you don’t really need custom buttons, it was only about a year or so ago that I really started to use them.
@@TheLiamGordon I went out with T4 for first time yesterday - it was bright and sunny but on southbank lots of shade areas and on manual single shot, i missed a lot of shots - being blurred etc . I then changed to CL and then dialed in iso and put on auto and shutter speed on auto and i got better results but still missed a few shots where people are close so maybe a Zone focus would be better do you think?
Paul Choccy T was the blur from a slower shutter or from focus? I tend to manual focus at f8 recently if it’s 23mm or wider. That way I can get everything from about 6ft to 30ft in focus at once. Although, with the xt4 you might get good use out of face detection. If it’s motion blur try setting the shutter to 1/500 or 1/1000, that should freeze most movement.
@@TheLiamGordon I was doing everything in manual and i was playing around a lot with iso and shutter speeds plus only had single shot mode on so it was probably a mixture of everything really.....my afternoon shots got better when i went to CL or CH mode and dialed in auto iso range
@@TheLiamGordon I'm not strongly recommending it, but the 27mm is f/2.8 and is a pancake lens, very small and light on an x-series body. I'm taking it with me to Hong Kong.
just about to get my XT2 this week and having trouble in regards to which card I would need i don't shoot video not planning to overuse the burst mode either would a uhs 1 card be ok and what would the specs need to be on a card what do I need to look out for in regards to read/write speeds? Thanks in advance
michael reynolds you’ll be fine with a uhs 1. The silver sandisk ultra cards will be plenty fast. Or even the Lexar Pro 633x which are generally pretty cheap on amazon.
If you can change the SS with the front command dial, how does that coordinate with the SS control knob on the top of the camera? Does one override the other?
The top dial is the master. But when you set it to “T” you can use the command dials. You can do something similar with ISO but when it’s set to “A”. You may have to enable it in the settings menu.
off topic but any reason why my X-T2 drains battery to zero fast fast and when the camera isnt even on the batterys drain to 0 1 original battery may be old and 3 brand new batterys do the same thing.
It’s just accessed in the IQ section of the menu. I changed it once and never touched it again. I think if you are using multiple custom settings in the Q menu you will need to save them for each one but it’s been a while since I had that camera so I’m afraid I can’t give you a detailed answer.
Perphaps someone's already pointed out to you, but in case they haven't, lossless compression always means IDENTICAL to the original file - be it a camera RAW file or a song encoded in the FLAC format - so, 'good enough', given its inherent subjectivity, doesn't apply here. Just saying.
Yes someone else with technical knowledge said the same thing. In my mind it was like saying here’s a bus that seats 30 people but it’s half the size of every other 30 seater bus with no loss of space or comfort.
Good question. I hesitate to answer definitively since this can be quite subjective. I will use 12800 when it’s dark and it’ll be grainy but I’ll accept it. Probably 6400 is reasonable enough for most people.
QCCanales not this time. I didn’t feel that adding samples would have helped explain the settings any better. Although they may have created more visual interest for the video
