  • The Lovevery Play Kits aren't worth it? What worked and what flopped with the 5-6 month play kit for us.
Disclaimer: This is simply my family's experience with the Lovevery 5-6 month play kit. As I mentioned, these are still very high quality items that are definitely in line with Montessori. If you are a busy parent looking for an easy way to introduce good quality Montessori items to your child, this is definitely still a good option. But I think it is important to also know that not all children will take to all the items in the age range specified, which is what happened with us. If you are interested in trying Lovevery, I would 100% skip their first two kits and start with this one. I would also recommend getting it before your baby is 5 months and gauging when your baby is ready- I think that would have made some of these items more worthwhile for us.
TL;DR Lovevery does make good quality Montessori inspired toys, but this kit did not work for our family for the 5-6 month age range. I would love to know what your experience has been!
Welcome to one of the few, if not the only, reviews of Lovevery that is unsponsored and not a gift sent from Lovevery. I purchased this kit with my own money as a gift for my daughter. In this first video of the two-part series, we take a look at the 5-6 Month Senser Play Kit, discussing the positives and brutally honest negatives of the kit.
We are a Montessori inspired home, and I am always searching for interesting ways to introduce Montessori activities to my infant daughter.
Lovevery is a Montessori inspired subscription service that delivers curated toys every 2-3 months to your door. If you subscribe, each kit is $72 for the first year. You can also purchase the kits individually for $80 each. The prices increase for the toddler play kits.
Will I be purchasing another kit from Lovevery? I will be revisiting their kits when she is 1 year old and doing a comparison of individual item costs vs what their kits offer. Stay tuned for next week's video to see how I've been approaching this so far for the first half-year of her life!
What has been your experience with Lovevery or similar subscription boxes? I would love to know-let me know in the comments below!

Totally agree. My baby has some lovevery materials and yes parents don't need to buy those expensive materials. And just like my baby, she is only interested in the rainbow spinner lol again you can purchase this somewhere else way cheaper. She was interested in the socks but only a few days and she started to get annoyed.

We have a very similar experience. We have subscribed since the 1st kit. My baby only likes 1 or 2 items in each kit. (yes to the spinning wheel!) Until she was 9 months old, we decided it was a waste of money and stopped the subscription. However, one day when she was around 1 year old, she all of a sudden started to play some of the older toys. We then continued to subscribe and she now plays with most of the toys. My thought is that very young babies do not need those curated toys, but parents are anxious to give them something so Lovevery had to come up with a kit that worth $80 and they have to put some of the toys that will be used later to the early kits. The booklet did warn the parents about it...

Thank you so much for your review. It took me a little while to find an unsponsored AND ungifted reviewer so I could really get what I feel would be an "untainted " experience. I also appreciate the alternatives you posted

Thank you! I had the same issue when trying to get a real understanding of whether these kits were worth it, so I'm glad this has found the right audience 🥰

Our little one didn't use the tissue box at first either, but she ended up using it later on and at 11 months she still loves it! Now she will reach her hand inside the box to pull out a tissue, showing that she has developed object permanence. Not that this is specific to Lovevery, but it's fun to see how her interactions with the toys change as she grows.

Aw it's so fun to see how their perspective of the world and use of materials changes as they grow!! Stella still finds the rainbow spinner from this kit and tries to find how to get the ball that's inside making the sound 😅

My kid likes most of the items from this kit, but he HATES the spinning rainbow. It's the weirdest thing. It literally makes him cry.

I added crinkle paper to the tissue box and it became one of my sons favorites

Haha so I was also super skeptical about Lovevery we just got the one box with the discount. Our son definitely did grow with some of the toys but the socks with the bell and the orange ball he couldn’t care less about 😂

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I hoped she would grow into those two at some point....the socks got used as teethers at best and the ball still gets zero use. I mean, she stole my pilates ball, for goodness sakes, I don't know why she doesn't like this orange ball at all?! You're definitely paying a hefty fee for the convenience factor, but they take the inspired part of Montessori inspired and really run with it for some of the boxes. Which is fine, but not always where I'm wanting to put my money 🤷🏼‍♀️

Finally! A good honest review of the Lovevery kits - thank you! All the other youtubers you can tell are "sponsored" and are too biased. Happy to be a new subscriber here. :)

My son didn’t like the orange ball either and I thought the tissue box would be a h it but he didn’t like it until much later. lol. I agree with the Kleenex box. My son preferred the real thing.
I’ve had Lovevery play kits from my sons birth to the two year kits. I am cancelling them. My son would take to only 2 or 3 items in the box. Some boxes he only liked 1 item or he gets bored after playing with items for a couple of days. I’ve done the toy rotation and it doesn’t work for us. Once my son masters a toy then he is over it and some toys he wouldn’t take to until 2 kits later. At the end of the day, Lovevery is very expensive for toys my son doesn’t play with. Now they have the subscriber books bundle (when they used to include books in the kits) so it costs more. I just don’t like what the company has become. Some of the kits aren’t worth the price and for people who can’t afford them can’t even get access to them without being a subscriber.

Totally agree! The changes that have happened since I made this video have made me even more skeptical. Their updated kits rarely seem to be "more" or "better" and moving the books that were previously included in the kits into their own "subscription" with an extra fee but ALSO still making it exclusive to kit subscribers only doesn't sit right with me. There's not as much wiggle room with the types of items they provide. Many of the activities I have bought and made for my daughter over the past (almos) 2.5 years have grown with her. But whenever I do a "dupes" video, I realize she wouldn't have been interested in much of what was in that current box or it would've been a one and done activity. I know the kits work well for many, but I do think it is worthwhile to find activities that are more in line with each child's unique pace and interests!

I think Lovevery are really worth it if the following is true for you:
    - You have a lot of space for storage
    - You have the funds
    - You don’t want to do any research and find out what is developmentally appropriate
    - You want to homeschool. I find that a lot of their toys teach the same lesson as the Montessori materials and are more attractive to display in my house than the actual Montessori materials (which honestly I find kind of austere. I understand why they’re like that. But that’s for another comment). And they are higher quality than a lot of classroom materials I find on the market. For example, their scale.
    - You don’t have the patience or the materials to DIY
    - You care a A LOT about aesthetics and quality
    - You have multiple kids who will feel differently about different toys. Just because as you noted, not all kids take to the same things. One of the most controversial items I see reviewed is the felt flowers from the Helper play kit. Parents of boys note that they are not interested at all, whereas a lot of parents of girls report their girls love it. My firstborn is not into toys (still isn’t, but she likes them more nowadays) In her infancy, I painstakingly did the research and spent tons of $$$ just to find toys she would play with. She’s not interested. She likes any activity that involves being with US. So I’m glad we never got Lovevery for her when she was a baby. Our second child however, is very into toys. Even at 1 month she would be batting at one of her older sister’s ring stackers on the floor mat. Whereas at until 6 months, our first baby was basically impossible to put down, let alone enjoy any toys. So if you have multiple kids, chances are high that all of the items will be played with. Otherwise, in my experience about half of the items will not be used much.

This was a review of the 5-6 month kit before they even had kids for the 3 year olds 🙂 Like I said, just our family's experience. I'm glad you have found it worth it for yours.
