    Hey just letting you know that you actually can buy individual play kits and not subscribe. You just go to the gifting link, that way, you can skip certain play kits you don’t care for. That’s what I did so I could get only 13 of the 18 kits! Just putting this out there for people who aren’t aware

      Great tip! We found this as well when we were gifting a subscription to family, and couldn't believe we'd never heard of it before.

      That's a great tip! Previously I heard some parents just made "new" children to get kits at different age ranges as I believe they don't set a limit of children you can add on your account. And just cancel the subscription after one box, but gifting is much more simple and less hassle.

    Pretty spot on with all the pros and cons. I was one of the ones who were right at that huge update a couple years ago and wasn't happy about it at first, but after receiving the box and seeing my son still have fun interacting with the box I realized the box was worth it.

    Really appreciate your videos! My wife and I did the same, trying to recreate the kits from other items. Even when the price looked lower, the quality could not compete for the small savings. One of the few things I'm glad we splurged on. The block set is also incredible!

    You mentioned that the lovevery resell value is quite high. We discovered that when we sold my sons younger kit items on ebay. We didn't sell complete kits because there are some toys my son just won't give up.. We made back 60-70% of what we paid for them. I have had several other Moms tell me that they would love to buy lovevery kits but that they are too expensive for something they will only use a month or two and I always explain to them that if they put in a little effort they can sell the items when they are done and that unlike other toys my son has actually continued to play with lovevery items for a year. He is 17m now and we are still rotating items in from 6m box and he is still loving them.
    Unrelated to Lovevery but I wanted to tell you that my son is LOVING your alphabet book. The photos are gorgeous and really keep his attention. We have tons of books but he pulls it out almost every single day.

    • @kevin-lu
      @kevin-lu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      60-70% back is awesome and much less hassle of trying to sell the items individually. Not many other baby/toddler toys have a resell value.
      I’m glad your son is enjoying the book!

    I tried to self curate and I ended up staying up late reading about child development and browsing Amazon when I could be doing literally anything else.
    The quality of Amazon dips are very hit or miss. And even the good ones are not as engaging to my child as the Lovevery ones. And they aren’t cheap like you noted. And even after I bought the dupes, I’m just not good at playing with my child. I lost both a lot of time and pretty much the equivalent amount of money (compared to the price of Lovevery), probably more, trying to get developmentally appropriate toys.
    I got ONE second hand kit for my new baby, and oh my god, I didn’t know babies this young could engage with toys. The play guide is absolutely amazing. I just bit the bullet and bought a subscription for my toddler as well. Because I NEED my toddler to play independently now that I have a new baby!

    • @kevin-lu
      @kevin-lu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Independent play is quite important with a new baby! I agree I think many times we don’t look at the big picture like the research time spent on developing a good toy for the child.

    Haven't watched yet BUT my daughter really loved the kids year 1-2. But now that she's 2+ she enjoys them sparingly. It's still nice not to think about "toys" and have these items come in the mail every few months. I also enjoy the fact that they are not overly flashy or noisy. I think if my daughter did not go to a Montessori school she'd utilize her activities at home more. But she's used some of them at school already so she's kind "evolved" past them. Her favorite item to play with right now are magnet-tiles! :) And going outside to the playground. She also recently likes playing matching, so the Lovevery matching set had been used quite a bit.

      My son had a couple months of only wanting to play with Mangatiles too! I didn’t really notice too much of a drop off during years 2-3, but I do know recently my son has been really into counting and the Lovevery Montessori Math Bars have been a huge hit. Of course he does play with many other toys now as he has always been into vehicles. The books especially from the year 2-3 boxes are still some of his favorites.

    I purchased the play gym only a week or so after my son was born (this past October) and it is absolutely worth the investment. It’s very sturdy and has little to no chance of braking with normal use. I just got my second play kit (the charmer) and 80$ is a lot, but to know that everything is safe, researched, and intentionally placed there is peace of mind. As he mentioned the play guides are great to know exactly what to do with each toy. There’s also a video guide for each one. My son loved the items from the first one and it was really all he needed for that time. The kits synergise well with the play gym to really get the most out of each product. If you’re on the fence, go for it! Investing in our kids is never a bad idea, especially when you know it’s what they actually need.

    This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been debating for ages whether to invest in the play kits and my son is now approaching his 1st birthday I think I will go for it.
    I debated making up my own kits using the play kits as inspiration like you mentioned but recently discovered here in the UK that toys purchased off Amazon do not meet the safety standards you would expect.

    I nannied for a couple kiddos who got the boxes and I was very impressed with them. I think they're worth it and I would buy them for my future kids, BUT they would be one of the only toy items I would buy them. I think if you're getting the boxes and getting excess toys for them, thats too much and it gets really pricey

    I started the Lovevery kits when our first was 8 months old and I have to say, I wouldn't do it again (she is 3 1/2 now).
    The one big thing I am extremely happy with, is their board books. Both my kids just LOVE them. The books from older kits not so much - I like them but my kids are not interested in them (except maybe the emotions books). The board books however until age 3 are just genius and so unique that overall I'm not too regretful that we got the kits. But only because as you say, the resell value is really high, we essentially got all our purchase money back reselling most of the toys on Mercari - wouldn't be possible anymore though with the recent shipping price increases (I recently sold the dollhouse and got only half compared to what a sale would have gotten me 6 months ago).
    In the end, Lovevery is really clever with their marketing - it gives the expectation that this is good for their development vs other toys and all the they need. As parents, it makes us want to get what is best for our Kid's developments - and concerned that we may not provide them with the same opportunities if we do not. But as long as parents are aware that flashy ABC shouting toys aren't really developmental toys for babies, all that additional knowledge is usually unnecessary - babies and toddlers are explorers and with much simpler and cheaper options and without us doing detailed research about their developmental steps, will figure out the same things/concepts that these toys provide. As a first time mom though, they caught me full force with their marketing 😆
    My kids are far more into pretend play, building, small world play, etc. And at least for us, with smaller siblings it starts so much ealrier. These kits absolutely wouldn't have been worth it for our second kid because she is far more interested in all big sister plays with. I can't name a single Lovevery toy she has been interested in for more than 2 minutes so far - she's 18 months and plays for hours with big sister in the play kitchen.
    My other big issue with the kits are how inflexible they are. The core message of Montessori is follow the child. Yet every child gets the kits with the toys at the exat same age 🤯 that doesn't make any sense - and they made it more difficult in recent years to ask for the kits to be sent on your schedule, not theirs. If I wouldn't have had them ship pretty much the entire year at once (which is pricey and overwhelming as a parent of course), we wouldn't have had a lot of use for the toys at all. Our first often was interested in items many months before they were recommended and with other items wasn't interested until much later. But ultimately that leads to having so many toys to store and manage and figure out when to give them what. It actually makes it a lot more complicated than it needs to be 😂
    We are about to move to a smaller space with no storage, so our toys need to be decluttered by at least half. As much as I would have loved to keep all those really good quality toys for future siblings, to make the cut, the toys need to be played with and not just once in a blue moon. Guess how much Lovevery toys made the cut - exactly one 🤯 the colorful coin drop thing. That's it (and of course most of the board books - I really wish they would just start to sell the books without the kits). That's why I recently came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it for us.
    Anyway, thank you for your Lovevery videos over the years. I always found them helpful and informative.

      Our two children are very similar age with son 2 months shy of 4 and 17 month old daughter. Naturally my daughter loves doing everything my son does, but since she hasn't started school yet she does play with the Lovevery items whenever my son is at school. With both of them though she usually just wants to play with whatever he's doing. My daughter definitely gets less one on one time compared to my son, so I always took that into consideration.
      I agree that with sooooo many toys, toy rotations does start get very complicated especially with two children. With one child it was easier to focus and easily notice what my son was interested in and what he wasn't to rotate out, but with my daughter I've slacked and rotate at a slower pace, plus so many more toys to pick from with 4 years worth of Lovevery plus all the KiwiCo stuff too!
      I haven't sold anything at Mercari yet, and have started considering it was I was saving all my stuff for my 2nd child, but she has outgrown many of the items now. Sucks to hear that shipping has gone up so much!
      I'm glad you've enjoyed my Lovevery video! I'm not quite done with them yet still have at least two more left as I haven't reviewed the last year 3 box and the block set.

    • @ronjab4586
      @ronjab4586 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevin-lu yes, I also started slacking with the rotation after our second was born. But it turned out pretty well for us in the end - our older one got a lot less frustrated when everything had an accessible place for her. She always kept asking for whatever was in rotation.
      Yes, so close in age and age difference so similar, our kids - plus we live in Houston too 😄
