I felt tired of people turning off all the lights on purpose and seeing if the camera works, it’s like taking a wheel off a tire and seeing if it drives
The FX6 is like magic in the dark. That combed with the Auto-VND allows you to do some CRAZY stuff with timelapses, or other stuff that requires wild changes in exposure
Props to the talent, that was a lot of standing in the same place and doing the same thing for what seemed like a long time and that's just for the finished product.
Knowing that it could work to shoot below the lower base ISO and that noise in the shadows may be cleaner opens up your choices. But, doing so may affect your highlights. Still, knowing that shooting outside the base ISOs can work is important information. Thanks for encouraging using lights for your videos/films. I hear so many people complaining that cameras aren't performing as well as they THINK they should. As if cameras are meant to be used without lighting. For me, I am happy with the FX30. Despite the sensor size, I've been able to get amazing footage out of it. Regarding noise, I find that reducing the chroma noise in post alone goes a long way in creating a cleaner image. It also makes the image more film like since film stock does not have chroma issues in grain. I can use Resolve's NR tools to remove chroma noise and slightly reduce 'regular' noise with little affect on the quality of the image itself. Great content as always. Cheers.
I ordered the FX30 with the 10-20 F4, 15 F1.4 & 40 F2.5 and am sticking with it, of course Sony needs to get a shipment or two to B&H so I can start my TH-cam filming career, I'll leave the light on!

If you need more light in low light situations try full frame lens on aps-c fx30 using a metabones speedbooster, known as focal reducers. It will increase your light coming in by a stop as well as times your focal zoom range by 0.74x. Work with primes as well. I just love the small form factor especially doing run and gun jobs.
Now your saying to use light and low light isn't no light which obviously is true. For me tho I am around recording a lot of fireworks displays for example and there are obviously no lights other than the fireworks and even sometimes the camera needs to move that's where my problem comes because it's super easy to get noise in the black background if the iso is just a little too high or something like that so thats what would be where I have my problem so would it for me just be the fact that my lense F value is way too high now I haven't gotten any of these cameras (yet) but I am planning to do so but before I would go out and buy them I just wanted to hear your version of this if you know anything or tips around shooting fireworks or places where the background is absolutely black with as minimal noise as possible
Hi Kofi, Great channel. I have a question for you. I am doing an interview in 2 weeks with the FX30. I want to expose for black skin tones. Person I am interviewing is a Black Priest. Normally on the FX30 I only go a stop over and slap on a Phantom LUT. I have plenty of light so I can stay at ISO 800. What are your recommendations. Mannnn. You’re a week early my first video of feb is exposing for darker skin , if I remember correctly , skin exposure is 48-55% IRE, to be safe (and reference to other Cine ei videos if you’re using it) id maybe go for 48-50% on Cine ei 200/400 for more shadow detail, use your zebras to make sure you’re there 👍🏾 also don’t be afraid to use light, but make it soft ! And if you’re in a big space, I might warm it up like a littttle bit, idk that’s just a personal touch

Hey, did you notice the different white balance in each camera even when you set that on the same value? I have noticed it when I was matching my footage from A7 IV and A7S III. Why is that happening? 5600 WB should be 5600 not 5000 if you know what I mean.. This is pain and Sony doesn't do anything about it..
Hey so I have seen some people say to turn off noise reduction completely while some say keep it on at the lowest setting? I have it at the middle setting and Im curious if that’s a smart move and what setting you like to shoot in in regards to the noise reduction in the fx6
I got the FX30. I have a sigma 16mm f1.4 and a sony 18-105mm f4. Need faster lenses. Should I get the sigma 30mm f/1.4 and use clear image zoom to get more reach ( i do with the 16mm. Sometimes) or get sigma 18-50mm f2.8? Is 2.8 a LOT better than my current f4 in low light? Thanks

1:31 i'm sorry but i've been an expert in low videography and 20 years in low light photography for weddings and the theory about low light dynamic range at lower iso than the base iso is flawed. If you punch out the exposure and use an F 1.8/ lens you can see how the gamma will increase to 1.4 instead of 1.2 resulting clearer video and more crisp resolution. The FX30 as you can see makes the subject in the lower ISO setting smile more while the base ISO at 800 makes him feel more sad. At this point you have realised that i have no clue what im talking about and im just wasting your time reading all of this. By the way nice review
great video, my personal conclusion is: fx3,fx6 and fx30 are great video cameras, a7iv is a bad choice because of the rolling shutter, that camera has such a slow read out sensor that makes me feel weird watching the guy just slowly moving
I'm trying to choose between the fx30 and fx3, currently use an a7siii and need a b-cam for interview set ups, I've seen fx3's going for a good price used. Want something that looks amazing and good in low light and a solid reliable filming camera, runs for a long time etc. Dunno what I'm really getting with the fx3 apart from full frame?
All these comparison videos on TH-cam on iso are pretty much pointless because TH-cam’s player makes everything look like mud. Between the banding and digital artifacts everything looks like bad sadly .

Why did you add a blur to the 200% crops?
That’s not a blur, that’s to show noise in the dark areas at 200%.
Maybe we’re looking at different things? The image at 0:44 is definitely blurred..?
