Sir, you just distilled almost eight hours of Slightly Shambolic Shuffling into fifteen minutes of well informed and superbly edited goodness. Well done, Mr Charles! I can also confirm that Mr Coleman is not a rubbish mechanic in the slightest. He is an excellent one!
Well done with the A to Z theme. I wouldn't have ever guessed tetanus or Zermatt. Must admit I prefer my classics shiny and outdoors but this show is for serious enthusiasts so I am pleased you were there to do a " highlights" video which I can enjoy from the comfort of my armchair. I don't know if these type of shows motivate you to get your spanners out or rejoice that there are people out there with cars that need more work than your own. Another enjoyable video - thank you.
@@GrandThriftAuto you are clearly a well automotively read and articulate guy who's not opposed to a crafty quip, I like this and also have this blessing cum curse. Your Princess review was great too, followed your channel for a couple of years now and you always get me chuckling.
Thanks for starting off with my AVON Celica, It does normally have carpets and centre console in, but I'm prepping to give in the floor pan a good coat of Smootherite (inside the cabin area) over the Easter period. Mainly to help prevent any rust forming.
Sorry I missed you! Your SD1 is stunning - hopefully I’ll get mine back on the road this summer and maybe we’ll meet at another event. Festival of the Unexceptional, perhaps?
@@GrandThriftAuto No problem Martin, and thank you very much! I am looking for a Tuber such as yourself who ISN'T sponsored to do a video on her as she is fresh to the world after 30 years and has quite a back story. Do you have a contact email please?
What a wonderful walkabout video, thanks for saving me the rather absurd ticket price, and NEC parking. I used to like going to the show, when it was cheaper...
It is rather a costly day out, you’re right - I did think twice as money is tight these days. The hidden charges and the ticket agency’s breach of ICO rules annoy me too. It’s a good show though.
@@GrandThriftAuto A good show indeed, but too much. Decided I could go to 2, maybe 3, 'local' outdoor classic car shows this summer instead, for the same total cost...
I hazzard a guess but I suspect parking now is ~twenty quid alone.Dont know how much the entrance fee was but equally I guess a burger was a tenner and a pint twenty quid.I dread to think how much having a stand was.
@@glennpowell3444 Parking is £17. Ticket was about £24 but there’s a hidden booking fee on top of another £2, so it’s over £40 before you’ve even walked the mile in the rain to the entrance. Didn’t have a pint but tea (large, and actually quite drinkable tbf) was £3.10.
In terms of the unregistered car, I think you can get age-related registrations from the DVLA Special Projects Office. In terms of the mint white Scirocco, it almost made me cry a little thinking back to the summer of 1990, a really nostalgic car for me (even though I've never had one and was just a kid then). I then cheered myself up by thinking of another aspect of the period, and that is the 'forgotten' and perhaps rather pretentious fad of Beaujolais wine, which was a fashionable for a while around that time I think, along with Perrier water and Le Piat D'or wine as well. Good Times. :)
Despite being there all day Friday and filming I always kick myself for missing something.. you filled many gaps! Like you I loved the SD1 and P6 Avocado Rovers and that strange glass fibre booted Mini!
What a brilliant review of an equally brilliant show! I forgot I had wanted to track down and ogle over that metallic green Hillman Avenger GT but didn't get the chance, still, was fantastic to spend the day (well, a few hours of it) going around the show with you. Still is the one to go to
This is a fantastic video Martin, excellent script and I enjoyed every bit. I need to make this a 2 day visit too next time as I only managed to do 2 halls today!
Thanks Gentil! Look forward to your report too - shame we went on different days or it would have been great to meet up...another time though I'm sure :)
@@GrandThriftAuto I wasn’t able to do a report as I was with a friend of mine and only did a few pictures. You’re more than welcome to pop in for a visit in West Sussex until I have the car ready. Should be back on the road mid May.

I asked the guy on the BDX stand why there is no prices, his reply shocked and astounded me.. "people like you dont understand the value" I replied "wow" and walked away !!

For the new radio fund. Thanks for your excellent content, Martin! 👌🏼😀
Thank you so much! (Only just realised I could respond here.) I shall definitely have to get the radio now…

P76 won the Targa Florio stage of the 74 World cup rally Hence the special edition name.
Well I never knew they rallied them - it’s a big old bus for rallying! Apologies for my ignorance there.
Those green rovers, WOW, what a hideous colour, but back in the 70's every manufacturer had at least one hideous colour in their range
But it’s a great colour! In a 70s kind of way, obviously, but I really like it on those Rovers.

I’ll see if I can find someone who’s got one and willing to let me do a film 🤔
Nice overview, I think theSD1 diesel might be Nitro Silvia's
Ah yes, that makes sense, I know he’s got an SD Turbo in the works 👍 I met him at last year’s show.
It is Nitro’s SD1, he was standing next to it when I was looking at the car on Friday.
This is what we called going down the junkyard a few years ago.
Maybe, but that was then. Time changes the significance of everyday things. Michelangelo was just a posh decorator when the Sistine Chapel was new.

So true! We don’t appreciate what we have! 👌🙏🏼
Love those big 70s Vauxhalls! VERY underrated

I didn’t spot an SS1, sorry - but then there were quite a few things I missed. One day isn’t really enough.
A lot of straw
Indeed. I did look at one of the cars, I forget which, and thought that all the straw inside the wings would light up nicely if it ever sees a welder.
Was all going so well until you had an opinion on a flag!!
