We use this "talking to the tumbstone" thing as a mean to hope that your beloved ones can listen to what we say in the after life. But in the comics there's a scene where Trish meets him in the after life and she's surprised by how soon he got there. So.. we can conclude that his before death monologue was totally not heard by anyone :p
Of course, because even in real life the talking to tombstone thing has actually very little to do with the actual dead people and much more to do with the living people trying to process, their loss , grief , feelings , hopes and the idea of death , so the people who need to hear the confessions and the prayer are ironically not the dead people but the actual person who is doing the tombstone talking ! So it’s fine if Trisha didn’t hear Hohenheim’s last words , cause she had already joined the truth , so in a way she already knew , plus the only person who actually needed to hear Hohenheim’s tombstone talk …is Hohenheim !
Of course, it's an anime, and they need to inform the audience what the character is thinking and feeling, but people talking to no one for their own sake isn't exactly uncommon. But at the same time I'm so happy he has found peace with his past and is released from his burden and suffering he even got to die next to the love of his life this was just so bittersweet.
at the end of the 4 strongest fma brotherhood (pride, the dwarf in the ampoule, wrath and hohenheim) there remains only pride with a new body and no powers while many much less strong characters survive, and this makes the anime even more beautiful because you can expect anyone's death
Technically as far as we can tell, “Pride” actually is dead. The single soul that remains in side the vessel which Pride previously occupied could be any one of the ones in that philosopher’s stone, having essentially been reborn. Now, it’s not *impossible* that the person we see at the end really is Pride and he’s just acting innocent, but there isn’t really any strong evidence to suggest that.
It is not all bad for Hohenheim. In the manga it is shown in bonus pages in the last volume that he actually meets Terisha in the afterlife and they are living together.
Have you ever checked out One Piece, Berserk or Attack On Titian? While they can be very different, I consider them to be just as good, if not better in some cases

@@kikijihan8316 this is it for me. I think FMAB is set apart by how integrated its story is. It really has exactly enough to do what it needed to. Nothing in its story is wasted. There’s no filler, no arcs that feel pointless, no characters who feel like they were done wrong by the story. It all just works so well for me. This is what elevates FMAB over any other anime I’ve ever seen.
Brotherhood was an amazing show. And Hohenheim was a tragic npc. So tormented with survivors guilt. His speech to his dead wife was beautiful and heartbreaking. Damn my sweaty eyes😭
Always feel this big empty void after finishing a shonen. The journey coming to an close and knowing this is where it ends. Seeing the end credits in Naruto Shippuden, watching Fairy Tail's best team leave on their Hundred Year Quest and the Elrics returning home. It's like saying goodbye to good friends when moving away.
You know what's amazing? Hoenheim is the living embodiment of the most powerful force in humanity: A living, breathing Philosopher's Stone. Yet, he was probably the most grateful, humble, emotional, and dare I say HUMAN character of the entire series. It's incredible how Ed is his total opposite: Extremely arrogant, full of himself, and never afraid to talk smack.
I remember crying so much. He was my favorite character, his whole story with father. The episode the dearf in the flask is still engrained in my memory. Similar to real life tales of alchemy and the human experimentation. So fascinating.
The homunculus asked what he lacked. This was it. He lacked heart. To lay down your life for those you love. He would always be the dwarf in the flask.
imagine after all that peaceful death stuff he just leaned back and screeched in pain like UAAGAGAHGHGAGHGAAAAAA and then slumped over. wouldn't that be fucking wacky
Didn't feel sad when he died but man when that music played felt really sad reminded me old time when I wasn't familiar with internet and had to keep switching channel like animax, cartoon network, Jetix, nickelodeon during vacation since I didn't know what good show would stream at what point
damn.....the song kicked in just at the end......it touched me hard, I didn't even watch the show goes to show that Songs and even Scenes like this can hit people good
Immortality often is a curse or at least a double-edged sword. Many may want it and may even obtain it but in the long run is something many tend to regret after in some cases. For example, read those side stories from *Lost Odyssey* about the character Kaim and others being "blessed" with immortality. It's some heartbreaking stuff.
I wish I too could live for well over 500 years and die when I so damn chose to because I feel I lived enough and want to be done with it. Growing old and helpless kind of ruins it for me.
I used many of the same words about wanting to live to my own wife's urn. It's hard to think of a better ending to an anime. A shame they released another episode.
I can't believe myself that I'm shedding tears for Hohenheim. Tears of sadness and joy at the same time. I'm happy for him because he'll finally meet Trisha, I'm sad for him because I want him to live with his Childrens

The best father anyone could ever have. He came to terms realizing that it was his time to leave.
fax
Funnily enough its the same way king bradley died
Rain just brings everything together.
I cried because he finally has a reason to live. But he also gets to be released from his curse. He’s with Trisha again.
Never fails to bring a tear to my eye
It's odd I'm sad that despite finally reuniting with his children after all these years he now can't see them grow or meet his future grandchildren. But at the same time I'm so happy he has found peace with his past and is released from his burden and suffering he even got to die next to the love of his life this was just so bittersweet.
Quick moment of silence to anyone who had this recommended to them before finishing the series
Finally he can rest in peace
Trisha was only 26 when she died. Wow that's young!
just finished the show today. this scene and the ending of the show just had me crying hella fr the ending of the show is just so beautiful
at the end of the 4 strongest fma brotherhood (pride, the dwarf in the ampoule, wrath and hohenheim) there remains only pride with a new body and no powers while many much less strong characters survive, and this makes the anime even more beautiful because you can expect anyone's death
In the manga it is shown in bonus pages in the last volume that he actually meets Terisha in the afterlife and they are living together.
this is sadder than dbz and bleach
we are not sad for his death.... we smile for he has found salvation has been achived
i just wish that i could watch this anime one time like that as i watched for the first time
I still haven't seen it. Is it that good?
@@HelloSirHowCanIScamYouToday Try it ...
To me Fullmetal Alchemist is and will always be the best anime/manga I've ever seen, and NOTHING will change my mind
Have you ever checked out One Piece, Berserk or Attack On Titian? While they can be very different, I consider them to be just as good, if not better in some cases
@@GSol1 Nah...FMA is way better in story and character than all of what you said. One piece has better world building but the story is kinda meh, berserk is....well berserk. AoT is really good at building hype and has the best world building out of the 4 but the ending is sucks also that not every character is important in AoT not like how FMAB which every character literally has meaning in the story
@@kikijihan8316 i say both one piece and fm is on the same level
This was my turning point in anime
Watched this for the first time last summer, finished the anime in two days, was so good I couldn’t stop watching.
Fucking amazing anime for sure.
This really made me tear up. He wants to live not for anything but his boys. 😢
It's a terrible day for rain
I remember crying so much. He was my favorite character, his whole story with father. The episode the dearf in the flask is still engrained in my memory. Similar to real life tales of alchemy and the human experimentation.
So fascinating.
He finally can reunite with his wife again
I actually recently watched a you tube bit on this guys past
He's actually connected to everything in this show pretty much
The homunculus asked what he lacked. This was it. He lacked heart. To lay down your life for those you love. He would always be the dwarf in the flask.
His death was so satisfying and sad at the same time because you know he deserved that peaceful death.
imagine after all that peaceful death stuff he just leaned back and screeched in pain like UAAGAGAHGHGAGHGAAAAAA and then slumped over. wouldn't that be fucking wacky
Arakawa, once again using parallels, has Hohenheim die with a smile on his face as opposed to crying like he did in his family photo
Didn't feel sad when he died but man when that music played felt really sad reminded me old time when I wasn't familiar with internet and had to keep switching channel like animax, cartoon network, Jetix, nickelodeon during vacation since I didn't know what good show would stream at what point
When the piano notes come it hit me hard right in the eye ....
I gotta admit I teared up when the first thing Hohenheim said to Trisha was about Ed calling him father.
hohenheim's death hit so hard because i don't wanna die either :(
damn.....the song kicked in just at the end......it touched me hard, I didn't even watch the show
goes to show that Songs and even Scenes like this can hit people good
I just be coming back to this scene whenever I need a good hard fucking cry.
Was genuinely sobbing at this scene man I get now why this show is so special man.
It was still sad be cause he dies just when edward finally said father to him
This is a scene that embodys rest and redemption
😢 immortality was a curse for him. But at the end he found some happiness.
Hohenheim's deaht at fma: haha cool
Hohenheim's deaht at fmab: *cant anything because crying*
He ain't no Ging Freecs. That's for damn sure.
I do fear death because of not knowing for sure what happens next
I wish I too could live for well over 500 years and die when I so damn chose to because I feel I lived enough and want to be done with it. Growing old and helpless kind of ruins it for me.
I used many of the same words about wanting to live to my own wife's urn. It's hard to think of a better ending to an anime. A shame they released another episode.
one of the best characters in fmab hands down
I can't believe myself that I'm shedding tears for Hohenheim. Tears of sadness and joy at the same time. I'm happy for him because he'll finally meet Trisha, I'm sad for him because I want him to live with his Childrens
imagine “may i stand unshaken” playing during this scene
Lay down
Try not to cry
*cry a lot*
One of the most saddest father deaths.
