what histery do you know on bike cuz looks like chain scraped something F...... up . Belt drive as i think came on 78 1/2 low riders and Sturgis were belt primary and secondary as 78 1/2 was just primary?
from what i can see and a bit of experiance take a good look at throw out rods and replace throwout bearing im sure pressure plate and springs are fatiged cltches and metal discs didnt look burnt but pretty glazed what do you think? them primary belts on enclosed primary dont take much of a leak to break down belt that crank sprocket looks like something fell on belt to the damage from what this subscriber sees. is that a 78 1/2 ? if so ill tell you what it takes to fix leak im slow typer so if you are pretty knolegable on shovels ill not seem to be a no it all. lol
Planning to swap the throw out bearing and rod already. I'll give a much closer look at the clutch before re-assembly. I think we're looking at belt/primary/hub since something had a run through there and nicked up the teeth pretty good. It's a 74 as far as I was told. Definitely not a stock beltdrive bike. Inner primaries been drilled for vents as well. I'll be doing the mainshaft seal, outer seal, and taking a closer look at the 4th gear for play once it's a bit more cleaned up.
ok the seal that goes in transe case needs replaced your sprocket has to much play when you put new seal in trans case use permatex around outer and grease where the inside spring on seal is otherwise you could have problems like i say i dont know it all but learned from others that did know everything cuz problems solved. Check your chain alijghnment also on it also belt alighnment did that crank sprocket have a rubber dampners? remember when belt adjusting belts tighten up when hot so just saying. maybe i should keep my saying to myself right 🤐 lol On chain drive it doesnt matter to much if leaks transe fluid in primary as long as its not to much . i learned the hardway on tryin to fix them leakin trans belt drives i replaced more seals then i wanna say and still leaked sometimes more sometimes less . I m sure God herd me swearing and herd my plea for help and put me at the parts counter with so flustered look and he asked why i was getting more seals . cuz oviously i m not doing something right and explained . He laughed and said Saturday evening he would come and show me and guarantee me it will be fixed and no charge and dont offer he said staring at me . He did not lie. We became and still are very good friends he taught me so much threw the next 40 yrs. Ive never known or seen in person or youtube or any channels anyone that can can do it all and knows it all I asked him how can you make everything look so easy . He said you keep buildin bikes you learn these things i said i never would of guessed how intelagent you are on harleys his answer was why would you i dont help or tell anyone i know shit when a customer asks if i know how to i point to the service writer tell him hes the man to ask. Then he said if i was gonna be out wrenchin this coming Saturday afternoon hed come over he said wear clean clothes as would be driving his porsh and going on a mission and it sure as hell was as they called him Shoe Fly. theres more to the story i think the coolest part . And Shoe Fly was the Parts man at my local Harley Davidson If you want to hear like Paul Harvey would say and the rest of the story is. let me know watchin wrenchin wrecked today just made me think of how fortunate i was because i couldnt fix leakin tranny on my belt primary shovehead. thx for reading not reading rambling on about Like Well Back then ah ha ha... lol night everyone good luck wrenchin its all good i like your drive and ambition and guts to dive rightinto about anything determination!👍👍👍👍👍💯
That's how I've learned too. I try and absorb everything I can from the old timers that have been doing it way longer than me. And I definitely make mistakes along the way, it's just weird now because they end up on the internet... But it's all part of the learning curve. And I try to make these videos to help others also looking to get their feet wet. Even if I mess up, it may show others what not to do, which is still important in my book. I'll be sourcing some parts for this thing, but any advice or tips moving forward are always appreciated! I've learned a ton from the comment section on this page too! Thanks Brian!
Me and milkman just did this on a 76... Took us too long to figure out there was a bolt on the backside to cut the starter lose.... Got to love it!!!!
Live and learn! I've been around these ones a few times. But it has been about 2 years since I ripped into one.
😁✌👍👊💯 Another one in the history book.
Thanks James!

Sadly I do not have all the info. I'm learning more from the owner as we go. Pulleys have definitely seen better days...

The original issue was an oil leak?
Trying to keep it less leaky. And the shift shaft needed to be replaced too.
