Yes! I actually search out vids/tutes like this, I am planning on buying a basket case and I'm hoarding all the knowledge I can..., 0 thank the bike gods for folks like Billy Lane here, I've done minimal wrenching on some triumphs & sporties but that was so many years ago, now I'm rekindling my passion for bikes ... There's a few good long detailed tires for bobbers + older iron Heads out there too ... Just gotta look !
After growing up watching you, its BADASS to see you back on the screen sharing your passion and knowledge of bikes! All the best to you and your family Billy!
Hands down….the best channel. Appreciate the opportunity to see the man work and the open sharing of knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to film and explain the entire process of the build. Look forward to Part 2
Awesome to live in a time where we can sit home and watch the master go to work and share his knowledge. College level mentorship right here. Thank you Billy 🙏
Love the shop window, I’m 20 and have grown up helping my father with using machinery and whatnot for the last decade but never saw daylight in the old retired textile mill house. Hope to build a shop in the future with him and have some windows letting the early sunshine in! Best way to start the day!
Good find man! My cat does the same thing when I am wreching.. FL, FX, FLH Mid star was 67-72. 73 is the first year of the double dual bananna calipers front and rear and the introduction of double flange rear wheel for sprocket and disk. 73-74 is a single flange with deep dish front rotor. Star hub was 36-39 stepped, 40-57 minor changes but similar in design, "welding/brazing/recessed grease zerk", but fixing the dangerous prewar internals, big change was for Hydro rear brakes 58-66 star hub with the milled brake side mounting.
Hey Billy, I always comment, I’m an A and P aircraft mechanic, I can never say enough about the Quality and information given in these videos top notch stuff thanks again for all you do!
I don’t know how I missed this video. I was born in 71 and my dad worked for Fort Washington Harley Davidson in Fort Washington, Maryland, in 72 assembling bikes. People talk shit about AMF Shovelhead. I love them all.
God this brings back great memories me and my dad used to bread down old flh shovels and pans rebuild them and sell them just like that! The last one we did was 82 low rider we put a shoker on it. You have made me get my old Harleys out rebuild them and get them riding again. Thank you Mr. Billy!!
Glad your back Billy. I was a fan during your biker build off days, and I’m a bigger fan now. Love the direction your going now. So many videos on the newer bikes. Nothing on the older bikes. Need more videos on bikes from the 70’s to the 90’s. Keep ‘em coming
I love it ! Still have my first shovel i bought in 1986 . Rode it on a lap around Australia a couple of years back 10 weeks & 17,500 km , trip of a lifetime ! 👍👍👍
Love to see where you are in life and your content is second to none! Can’t get enough of the down and dirty turn the damn wrench videos. Thanks for bringing us along!
In 1982 I bought a ‘70 FLH exactly like your ‘70, right down to the blue original paint. Really brought back memories. Reliving a lot watching this video too. I had that bike down to the frame so many times changing it around that I can still remember every nut and bolt on it. We did a video with my friend assembling it in time lapse in an early Easyriders video that I now have on my TH-cam channel. Sadly, I was almost killed on it, when a schizophrenic ran me over on the way to work in ‘96. The frame was bent every which way, but Dr. John straightened it out for me near perfect. I put it back together with a beautiful candy blue paint job and sold it to Chica’s then business partner Don. It’s in Japan now. Enjoyed this video, thanks for the memories.
I’ll tell you I’m a bike guy, luv riding, luv working on my bikes and this probably the best T.V. I’ve watched in a long time! I absolutely luv sitting down at night and tuning in. Doesn’t get any better!
Dude Thankyou for making all of these videos! I have been watching your channel pretty religiously for the past couple of days trying to find tips, tricks, and idea on how to build a true chopper. There is not a whole lot to find on the Internet on how to build one from scratch for the first time and make it truly custom. I don’t want to be like everyone else that just has the same catalog parts on a generic chopper so please keep making videos.
Nice message, thank you for watching. I’m in the process of relocating my shop right now, but I have so many new videos to finish and upload. I’m glad you find them helpful
Mad respect for you Billy. I’ve been a fan since I was kid I wish you were still here in Florida but as a Dad & Husband myself I totally understand the move to Tennessee for the betterment of your life. Thanks for posting these videos! I hope to meet you one day in person & grab a autograph to hang up in my shop on my legends wall.
I love this guy's videos. Most appealing is he sounds so humble and down to earth. Listen to him talk, he always says this is how I do it. He never says you need to do it this way or this is how it's done as if it's the only way. More than anything else, his demeanor and ofc style resonate. Keep up the great content!!!
Thank you for taking the time putting these videos together. I absolutely love them. Yeah, reminds me of some great times no doubt. See a lot of passion certainly but most refreshingly the inspiration that comes from your deeds that inspire so many. Keep it coming! Hope to see you at New Smyrna in a few weeks.
Thanks for doing theses videos. I’m in the process of restoring an old bike too and your style and way of doing things have given me great help and ideas.
Billy Lane is & has been at THE TOP of this game for a long time……. It’s always a pleasure to watch & listen to ANYBODY who is at the top of their game. They make it look easy….. going back to when all the chopper shows we’re all the rage on TV, Billy & the late Indian Larry (May he be resting on a chopper) we’re the ONLY two dudes who IMHO were worth watching & listening to….. this IS NOT a paid advertisement!
I was so happy when I found this channel! I LOVED biker build off. I also really enjoy how he pays respect to all the other great builders…..and I don’t know why…but I enjoy that he never curses. Really enjoyable to watch.
Every time you post a video I feel compelled to make a comment thanking you for it. They're like hanging out with a uncle or dad in his garage and he's showing you how to wrench. All the knowledge, tips, experience. It's fantastic. Fuck that scripted "reality" bs. THIS is real and genuine and interesting.
I'm not a motorcycle guy. But I have so much respect to you Billy. Rebuilding your life and family. It makes me want to go out and buy a Harley at 66. Your teaching is so easy to follow on these videos. Your best work is still ahead of you. As a single father who raised 2 kids now 26 and 27 myself. I can tell your going to be great with your girls. All the best to you.
This is going to be really cool for me to watch. I graduated from HIGH school in 72. This is like a time capsule to see what they looked like all of those years ago!
That was the best hour I've spent in 6 months.Six months ago I got hurt at work as a result of someone else's negligence and broke my femur in 3 places and tore the meniscus in my knee. Now I sit here inspired to go find an old shovel or evo to redo so that when I can walk again.... I can do some bucket list travels. Thank you for your awesome videos and the inspiration to wanna wrench on an old bike. Can't wait for the next video.Be safe and watch out for them deer.
I've been wrenching my whole life for others. Now I'm ready to start wrenching for myself on what I love... vintage Harleys! You are giving me the insight and inspiration to do just that. THANK YOU BILLY!
Billy is one of the masters because he shares some of his secrets with the motorcycle community!! I would be honored to meet him one day!!! Can’t wait to see part 2 of the ugly shovel!!! Thank you Billy for the motivation and inspiration!!!
So glad to see you making videos and spreading your knowledge. You are a major inspiration that that got me into bikes 20 something years ago. It's such a privilege having these videos. It's like I'm working with you.
Mr Lane, I really appreciate the c way you explain the process. You take your time to really show us how to do the work. I'm a long time fan and I appreciate the great lessons. Thank you for taking the time. Take care.
Already loving the new look! The gold and black looks awesome! Can't wait to see the next video on this bike and of course another one when it's finished and running. Thank you very much Mr. Lane.
Billy Lane!! Thank you so much for the education! You are a great teacher and its a true gift how you share your knowledge with the world. Take care and be safe.
Dude you have the best motorcycle channel on TH-cam ! I love how you go through the nuts and bolts of the bike, give history on the bike and the parts and it’s fun to watch what you build. Keep up the great work !!
I'm an old 79 and not a cycle guy but watching you work and your indepth knowledge of this bike I couldn't stop watching your work...YOU ARE A MASTER MECHANIC...GREAT JOB...CANT WAIT TO SEE THE FINISH...CONGRATS!
Great vid! I apprecite the detail you go into explaining such things as the welding repairs and installing the manifold and carb. You definitely love what you are doing.
Hey Billy you're the man can sit and watch you work for hours! Watched all your biker build-offs! Much respect bro I ride a 2006 deuce custom! If make-a-wish ever needs to grant me one, it would be a cruise with you! Keep the knees in the breeze bro
It was interesting to see even up into 1972 this frame still had the right rear swingarm pivot bracket from the old Duo-Glide style (tool box mounting boss (undrilled) and the rectangular boss on top of the swingarm pivot for the old oil tank mounting bracket). The left rear bracket had been changed and no longer has that boss. I’ve had ‘67 and ‘68 frames like this. Harley made a bunch of running changes from the late ‘60’s up through the ‘80’s.
Haven't seen You in years Brother. Thoroughly Enjoyed this time with You and this Fine project. Nice Chill Vibe from You and this little shop. Between the cat and NOW You have a Wife and 3 Little Ones...Brother, You ARE a Wealthy Man. May You and Yours Be Healthy and Happy. I'll be checking in now for Your ongoing projects. I'm really Happy to have stopped by.Thank You.
I really enjoy watching someone at your level of building because it gives me inspiration to make my projects to a higher level even though my work has nothing to do with motor vehicles. Thanks for the inspiration. Amazing work you do.
Been watching you awhile, I like videos like this, for us dudes that are always working on old bikes, it's nice to listen to while you work and pick up on the little things
I have a 70 FL that I have stored for over 20 years. Coming across your video on the 72 was a complete turn on. Gave me lot of ideas. I am looking forward to your next video especially the belt drive primary. Thanks.
This video brings up some memories. I bought a '72 FLH for my bro from Daytona. It was a running bike and looked like a bit better than yours, but almost every mechanical part was worn out. My bro fixed the mechanical issues and rode over 6000 miles in first summer. Later he did a better rebuild for the bike and rode the crap out of the bike. That was 14 yrs ago and he still owns that bike. He has been thinking to make a somekind of restoration at some point. Its not a holy grail of all Harley-Davidsons, but a 50 year old Harley with a matching numbers frame and motor. If he ever decides to build a chopper, i think it will be some different bike. Cheers from Finland!
11:22 Wow!, Just noticing, After all these years you still have the old New York door.. it made it through all moves and years! That’s so Awesome! 😬 ☀️😃👍🏼
I've been a 🔧 most of my life and you have been an inspiration since my first trip to Dayton in 81 just wanted to say Thanx! I could never afford to purchase anything running just wrecked or junk and fixem and ride Thanx Again
I been following Billy for quite a few years now simply because I love the lines of his choppers & his hubbless choppers but also Billy shows everything during his bike builds & engine builds I learnt everything about my 87 heritage from subscribing to Billys channel I do all my own maintenance & ALTERATIONS ALTERATIONS
Great timing on the build! I’m just tearing into my father in laws 76 flh police bike and I was wondering how to make it look cool. I’m looking forward to part 2 of the build.
When I was 16 in 2006 I was going to go to college here in the UK to be a motorcycle mechanic. Like a fool I didn't and now 16 years later I drive a truck. Yes a decent job but watching you Billy has made me Rethink my life and decided to do what I should have done when I was young. Watching you is great and watched you since the biker build off days. These videos are awesome and thank you for making me realise what I should be doing. Hope you've had a great Christmas and all the best for the future
Billy.. you and Jesse and indian larry comprised my childhood growing up. Also motorhead is my favorite band. So I had to buy 2 shirts! I wanna say thanks to keeping the channel going and thanks for all the knowledge and advice you give when it comes to building. Hope to see an ironhead in that garage someday! Keep up the good work man. Stay true. Favorite motorhead album? Mine is probably bastards or orgasmatron.
I have followed you since "Biker Build off" I love that you build what you like not what is expected .Continue to do what you do it's awesome watching you work
My little trick is one wrap of black electric tape over the O-rings before the clamps on the intake manifold. My old brother Springer showed me that in the early 80's and I've never had an air leak since. One tight wrap, no more.
Future retirement memo to me: ' Find a beat up old Glide' (this is the UK so fat chance of that happening) copy & paste Billy's work or try to. Interesting, informative and as always a pleasure to watch any of your re-build projects sir.
You might know this (looking at your t-shirt) but the guitar world has developed some great techniques for aging nitro paint. Tom Murphy works for Gibson Custom Shop. His 'Murphy Aged' guitars are works of art. His skills might be something you'd be interested in. Really enjoying these videos, Billy. I think it's because it's so relatable to working guys looking after their old Harleys. Certainly, for me, much more so than Build Off ever was. Best wishes.
I got a 76 to and took all of the chrome junk off decades ago. Took off the seat and put solo seat on the frame. (Shakes the hell out of my kidneys after about 1 hour) . All those light bars they put on them were horrendously ugly. Next thing i want to do is put electronic ignition and do away with the unreliable points ignition. Goodluck with your build Martin. Peace brother.
Damn I just found this channel. I remember all of the biker build off shows. Always liked your work and now I really appreciate how you are literally teaching all of us by sharing in great detail so much useful information. Shovel heads are by far my favorite bikes. If I didn’t have a wife I would probably have a dozen or more. Anyway thank you very much for the videos.
Hey Billy have been following you since biker buildoff, your my favorite builder. Just kind of lost track of you when you stepped back from the spotlight, I know you had some unfortunate things happen back in the day but glad to see you back.
Man I love doing this kinda work! I’ve done many old bikes and regretted selling them cause they’re getting harder and harder to find you know cheap as I like but it feels so good when you’re done and can enjoy the beauty you have done with your 2 hands and a ton of tools.
This video is awesome Billy!! I can’t wait to watch all of these and I am 100% joining outlaw tv because I’m not missing any of your content man!! Thanks so much for putting this stuff out there
It is always, such a pleasure watching your videos! Your incredible knowledge of bikes and their assembly and the down to earth narration make for such a pleasant learning situation. Not that I am a bike builder, it's just refreshing to watch you share so much knowledge of mechanics and technical knowhow. Thank you for caring enough to share your amazing experience of bikes.
Youre really a great teacher Billy. I'm enjoying seeing what you will do with this bike. All the accessories on it were really nice. I would imagine that when it all was new that was quite the bike to travel on. And like you say someone else can enjoy those parts. Thanks for these videos!
I feel like I’m right there with him being taught by a patient master. What an awesome dude!
People pay good money for Master Classes like these videos...lol
I just got finished telling ah friend of mine that very same thing. It’s like hanging out at your favorite shop learning ah thing or 3
Yes! I actually search out vids/tutes like this, I am planning on buying a basket case and I'm hoarding all the knowledge

☀️😃👍🏼
I still have it Mike
These videos are always a great watch and very informative Billy. Always some good tips included. Thank you
I have followed you since "Biker Build off" I love that you build what you like not what is expected .Continue to do what you do it's awesome watching you work
Awesome to have you back I love watching you build some of the badass bikes in the world welcome home brother 👍
So glad I found this channel! I haven't seen Billy lane working on bikes since the old biker build off days. Well done sir can't wait to see more.
My little trick is one wrap of black electric tape over the O-rings before the clamps on the intake manifold. My old brother Springer showed me that in the early 80's and I've never had an air leak since. One tight wrap, no more.
Your Energy is off the hook. Enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Billy is a professional ... and I for one enjoy watching all he does.. Keep up the great work.. maybe one day we can meet up in person
I'd watch this any time over anything, thank you. I'm trying to do the same to a 2001 deuce and this is inspirational. Thank you!
Enjoyed the video a lot. I have a 76 FLH and I am making some changes. Keep the content coming. I never miss a show you post.
Thanks Billy for bringing us along for your latest build! Love watching you create bad ass rides!! 😎🤙🏽
This video is awesome Billy!! I can’t wait to watch all of these and I am 100% joining outlaw tv because I’m not missing any of your content man!! Thanks so much for putting this stuff out there
Thank you for being here, I have so much more content to upload that I’ve been working on.
That two-piece handlebar just blew my mind. I don't know why I never imagined such a thing, but I didn't.
I used to watch you and the legend Indian Larry back in the day growing up, I’m so glad you are doing this on TH-cam 🤘
Awesome build brother breathing new life into an old classic hands down your the man!!
Youre really a great teacher Billy. I'm enjoying seeing what you will do with this bike. All the accessories on it were really nice. I would imagine that when it all was new that was quite the bike to travel on. And like you say someone else can enjoy those parts. Thanks for these videos!
