Hey guys! I'm sorry my uploads have been less often lately, but my schedule has been pretty crazy with my new position as a solo over the road truck driver with my new company. I have had to switch up my sleep schedule three times in the last month which is taking a toll on my body, so please forgive any mistakes in this video by me or BKM (he's also had to switch his sleep schedule to accommodate me). Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video about my latest night run. Stay safe everyone!

Hey guys, I realize that the audio while Shelby was driving wasn't the best... I had it figured out in the last truck she drove, but I guess her current truck is a little louder in the cab so my mic picked up more background noise. I'm working towards a fix on this issue. Whether it be purchasing a LAV mic or something else, I will get it figured out. Thank you for the support, and thank you for your patience with my screw ups.

So, how come the roads are so narrow in Ontario, compared to same lanes in Michigan. Its amazing, all that vast land, but its like the roads and highways are deliberately annoyingly, and probably unsafely too narrow. I wonder if it as anything to do with all the terrible crashes on the 401/402 around Toronto, London & Sarnia.

I had been watching and still am IB Trucking Girl videos. Iwona has been a heavy haul trucker for around 9 years for TAG in Europe. She hauls the giant windmill blades and rotors and some other outsized stuff. She has subtitles and occasionally speaks English. She is Polish, has driven the Ice Road and Oilfields of Canada for a year because she says she always wanted to do that. She repairs her truck and trailer, cooks in the truck, drives in the convoy, has a trailer that she steers with a remote control (Goldhofer), was a high school teacher, a Miss Poland contestant but loves the freedom of the road. She's also very good with videos and has many of them. She may be the most popular driver in the world right now BUT, the personality of Shelby is over the top. Skilled with common sense and very attractive. Soothing and enjoyable to watch with a GREAT camera man. As far as I'm concerned, her personality wins the day and combined with the camera man and her dog, I feel she is the new "force" in trucking videos.

Most dangerous parts of night driving include animals and in Winter not being able to see extended icy patches far enough in advance to do anything about it before you're into them. Love everything about your channel Shelby please keep up the good work and tell us your opinion of the comfort of the Western Star 5700XE especially compared to the P4 Cascadia. A quick comment on sleep. In the airline world we often fly what we call “rockets.” Out at say 7-8pm, fly 8-10 hours to somewhere in South America, layover 12-14 hours, and fly back. Sleep strategy for me is get in, eat a light meal, then take a sliver of melatonin. Then turn the room reefer to 68 degrees, use the pants hanger to seal the drapes, and once the earplugs are in, and white noise going, it’s off to sleep. Daytime is never really restorative sleep, but enough to mentally and physically be ready to go back the same night. The two elements that help me the most are cool environment, and no light. Sweet dreams, safe travels !

tip... use your bags... leave an inch when you drop your trailers and use the bags to set them down... do the same when backing into the trailer... bag down stop just under the trailer and raise the bags ... makes it a smooth process both ways and is easier on equipment

Greetings from Germany! So interesting to get an insight into truck driving, thanks for sharing! Whenever I passed a truck at night, I wondered how you guys feel about night shifts. Very educational. I‘m a police officer in training, so we get our fair share of night shifts too.. but I guess they are a whole lot different than yours!
    I hope you’ll get a good nights(days) sleep soon 😴

I can tell you're tired, driver, cuz you accidentally did a name drop of your company at the end of the video when you were talking about your permission letter for essential workers. Just hang in there Shelby, and don't work yourself to death. Make sure to get the rest you need, and remember that there's plenty of other companies out there that won't work you so hard. I know they're hard to find, just like in any profession. But the important thing is to take care of yourself and your heckin' cute doggie! Stay safe, driver 👍🚛

Couple of extra pro’s for driving at night, (in hot weather) pavement is cooler, tires stay cooler, less chance of a blow out, engine runs cooler. One other con, if you have a breakdown, might be awhile before help shows up. Great video, I also have loved since I was a kid seeing all the trucks lit up at night, I’m 50 now and still think it’s so cool. One day you’ll have your own rig and can deck it out in all the lights you want! Keep the videos coming. 👍😀

Hi Shelby I love this ! I am an English girl living in France, I went to University to study cinema and then spent 10 years waitressing, before deciding to become a truck driver and I am absolutely loving it ! I have never had a double trailer but am so impressed that you can back a trailer with a dolly !
I am currently working 14 to 16 hour night shifts, which is actually illegal in Europe, but the company pays the fines, so I know what it's like to be exhausted ! I love watching you to see what trucking is like in the States. I would love you to make a video about truck regulations in the US !
We have pretty strict regulations in Europe, here are a few facts :
    - Our single trailer trucks are a maximum of 16.5m long (54.1 feet) and double trailer ones 18.75m (61.5 feet)
    - We can't drive above 90 km/h (56 mph)
    - We can drive 9 hours a day + 10 hours twice a week. We have to take a 45 min break after 4.5 hours of driving.
    - Working hours carn only be 12 hours long daytime and 10 hours long if there are night hours.
    - Day shifts cannot exceed a 15 hour range and night shifts 13 hours.
    - Our daily breaks can be 9 hours long three times a week and for the rest of the time they have to be 11 hours long.
Also, I am not allowed to have an animal in my cabin, because I transport food, they consider it a hygiene risk.

Honestly I travel a lot due to military life and when I’m finally able to go home I drive... and it’s a 27+ hr drive so I mainly sleep in front of gas stations that are well lit ... however there’s hardly gas stations open at 11-4 at night so due to that I have to stop at rest areas and I always feel safer when a lot of truckers are near by, a lot of my family members drive big rigs and I do too (military style) so I have so much respect for y’all! Not to mention I had a trucker help me at a rest stop (kinda creeped me out at first) but he saved me from danger and when the bad people left he explained why he stopped me before I went into the bathroom and made up the story of my tail lights being out. So much respect to y’all and you definitely inspire me to be a trucker if I can get more information on how to start it.

When Idrove OTR back in the 90's I drove nights whenever I could. I've always been naturally nocturnal, and the traffic, especially going through the big cities, was always lighter and lot less stressful. Plus, the chicken coups were closed most of the time. I would usually try to shut it down right before sun up.

Get a memory foam eye mask. Brookstone has great ones. I need total dark to sleep. My former boyfriend was a rock and roll truck driver so he only drove at night. When I went with him on the road, the eye mask made it easy to sleep during the day. It's super comfortable. I actually got addicted to wearing it and now 15 years later, I still sleep with it every night.

My fam lives in Bountiful but I’m in Raleigh. My last driving gig was pulling MRI labs to hospitals and clinics. Mostly in the middle of the night. I could call them bc they were two hours back and sorta nocturnal. Made my trips go faster. As for sleep pre start by taking care of those eyes. Always clean your glass and mirrors. Cut your dash lights down until the glare is gone. Power naps are great. I needed mine just before day break. Cool air. Limit sugar. Stay hydrated. I took aspirin and Advil it Tylenol to relieve soreness from long nights. No light! I carried clips to snug the curtains and towels to fill other gaps. Keep on trucking!

Lol, had to laugh at the end, I can soo relate, being soo tired when you finally park at the end of the day..."Ok, still have some paperwork to do", "have to eat something", "have to tidy up a bit".."nope, gonna crash right here right now in the seat!" Love watching the videos, the way you go into detail as well so non-truckers and people who are looking at getting into trucking can actually "see" what you're talking about when you're explaining something, great job by Kodiak getting right in there to show exactly what's going on. A few videos back you asked for ideas for future videos? Sliding the tandems? Scaling a load? Pre-trip? Not the 1.5 hr one you do for your test, but what you do to start your day before you get rolling? Crossing into Canada, if you do? To name a few. Love the truck, Dakota is awesome, scenery shots are beautiful. Keep up the great work! PS the sound quality while driving not being the best? It WAS the best, makes you feel like you're right there in the seat.
