    Thanks for another pleasant, informative review.
    I have a 22 350 RXL, which I love. I bought it because it's all about the luxury: the best deal for top tier ride, silence, and audio. To do significantly better, you have to spend twice as much.
    I like the changes--longer wheelbase, stiffer, better chassis, styling, powertrains. I like the 350h, for 36mpg, same performance as the 350, quieter with instant torque.
    Thanks again, and all the best to you and your family.

      You can spend the same if not a couple grand more and get a significantly better luxury suv. Gv80 aviator or grand Cherokee summit all put this to shame

    Not bad, but a bit overpriced and some optional features should be standard on all models, like the panoramic sunroof, and the interior could have nicer touches with leather stitched upper dash and door panels, more genuine material usage, etc. Cargo space, despite the improvement, is still behind everything else in this segment which is another consideration.

    As an owner of a 22 RXL this has arrived and is due to be a third more expensive than what I paid new for the previous model. Car inflation is serious. I thought perhaps it may be 10-20% more and would've been interested but not now. It doesn't really offer anything more but a better infotainment, more modern looks and faster. Despite what people say, I find the previous infotainment perfectly fine - end of the day what does one use infotainment for 99% of the time, radio, navigation and hands free phone. Radio is perfectly easy to use and most use a few presets most of the time. Nav is all done with Android Auto/Carplay anyway so not much different to the new one except on a fancier screen. I can get a dongle to make it wireless if I wish. As for navigating all the settings, yes it's a bit clunky and the trackpad is old tech, but for the few times I ever have to go in to use other settings/applications I use the touchscreen most of the time. As for heating, I far prefer having still all physical buttons options compared to the new touchscreen. Plus I can't seem to get the new 500h in Nori green and white/cream interior which I really like.

    How's the ride comfort (normal driving, bumps, uneven/ripped up pavement)? I'm considering getting one, but I want to make sure it rides like you're on a cloud. I'm about to sell my Tesla MYP because the suspension is driving me nuts. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

    Here’s my take on the RX:
    The exterior is just awful. Not quite to the level of polish that we see in the x5, gle, xc90, gv80, MDX, aviator, grand Cherokee, xt6, qx60, cx9, telluride, palisade, Santa Fe, nautilus.
    The interior is not luxurious whatsoever. In fact take out the Lexus logo and the first thing you’d say is “nice interior for a toyota”. The interior has nothing on any of those rivals mentioned above. Nothing. Where’s the leather plastered everywhere on the doors and dashboard? Where’s the wood trim? Where’s the design? Where’s the opulence? Where’s the elegance and warm feeling interior? You don’t get any of those here. You get the same injection molded plastics you find in a Toyota on the dash and doors. You also get the same hard scratchy plastics on the bottom of the doors as you find in a Toyota. If you compare the interior of a gv80, aviator, or grand Cherokee summit to the rx you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
    No luxury features either. No massaging seats no lounge chairs, no air suspension, 4 zone climate control, etc.
    The tech is not great either. I admit the 14in screen is cool but it doesn’t look well integrated and the infotainment isn’t as nice as the gv80 or grand Cherokee or telluride or palisade. No physical controls at all, no built in gps, and no home screen. The gauge cluster is really small considering you can now get a 12.3in lcd cluster in a Toyota Highlander and Toyota rav4. The heads up display is not great especially with those god awful touch sensitive steering wheel controls. And don’t get me started on those gimmicky door handles.
    The legroom and headroom have shrunk inside vs it’s previous generation. From what I notice it appears there is less headroom. I admit I’m glad the cargo space is improved but if you want cargo space, get a rav4.
    Then we have the powertrains. And as is typical with Lexus, they are nothing short of lackluster. The 350 uses the same 2.4 turbo as a lesser Highlander. 0-60 in 7 seconds. A 4 cylinder turbo doesn’t belong in the RX. It’s noisy and unrefined vs the 3.5 v6. Performance is anemic for this class. Before you say “the RX isn’t about performance”, remember that every single rival is as fast or a lot faster and many of them are even cheaper. Even the already heavier MDX is as fast if not faster. The 350h hybrid and 450h+ plug in hybrids come from the rav4 and Highlander and tbh, those two are more “it’s fuel efficient but why even bother?” Then the 500h is not really great. Sure it may sound cool on paper 367hp 400lbft but the performance isn’t even better than a Toyota Camry v6 or rav4 prime yet it costs significantly more.
    The driving dynamics are just awful for the class. “Lexus driving signature” is virtually nonexistent. It can’t compete with the MDX or gv80 or the already much softer aviator and nautilus or tbh even a Mazda CX-9. Even the off-road focused grand Cherokee will handle better than this because of it’s weight balance and it’s rear bias.
    The RX is comfortable and smooth I give you that, but it’s not quite as comfortable as the x5 gle xc90 aviator MDX type S grand Cherokee summit with their air suspensions, or the gv80 and nautilus with their adaptive suspensions. So the RX doesn’t really have the comfort advantage.
    Then there’s the price tag. Sure it may be cheaper than the Germans but it’s not much cheaper than a gv80 or the grand Cherokee or nautilus aviator or those mainstream options like the telluride palisade cx9. Yet the RX doesn’t do anything better than any of those rivals yet it costs a lot and can get very expensive
    Sure it’ll be reliable but let me ask you who cares about reliability in a luxury car? Luxury cars are leased not bought. even if bought most of them get rid of them in a few years. Plus if you want reliability just buy a Toyota in its top end trim and not get those gimmicky features the RX has. It’s practically the same car. As for fuel economy who cares? You don’t buy a luxury car for that…

    • @personwiththeface4416
      @personwiththeface4416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Let's put it this way, this car is not for the enthusiast.
      This car is for the kind of person who sees driving as a chore. The last thing they want to do is think about driving, let alone deal with taking it to the shop.
      They see it as an appliance. This appliance has a higher resale value than any other appliance listed above. This appliance has less visits to the maintenance department.
      Most buyers just want something a little nicer than a Toyota. Heated and cooled seats, decent mpg, safety suite, alright looks, but strong dependability.
      I don't disagree with most of your statements. The thing is- we are not the target demographic. I would take a GV70 or even an X3 with the B58 ten out of ten times.
      But this sells very well, just like the MDX. If the demographic wanted the RX but didn't care about luxury they would look at the Rav-4, yet another car that underperforms but outsells the competition. It's just how the market works.

    • @naveenthemachine
      @naveenthemachine 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@personwiththeface4416 the MDX is a far better car than this. You can have dynamics while also getting luxury
      Besides if you’re shopping for the RX why not just save and get a highlander? Practically the same car with the same comfort and similar luxury

      @@naveenthemachine It's the same thing with the Nissan Armada and the Infiniti Q80. It's literally the same car but some people need the badge. I don't see any Armadas where I live but I see a good amount of Q80's.
      I get it; but I am an outlier. By the sounds of it- you are too. That's for the better. I like different opinions on topics I'm interested in, keeps it more fun.
      But this is like trying to understand consumerism as a whole. It's a whole different mentality.
