They definitely work in the right times. In the spring I use floats a lot for flatheads. Especially on hard river bends with a lot of log piles. You don't loose near as much tackle as you would a Carolina Rig. Some good info man.
Awesome man. Thanks and yeah being able to see what ur baits doing because of the visible float helps save a ton of tackle when fishing trees! I love fishing hard bends in the river too!
@@reelcatfishing4479 Them Hard River bends is some good fishing, always catch fish when I fish them. Always lots of structure on the outside edges of them, and that's where them big flatheads like it.
Thank for the video I have never used one of these but very interested. Thank you for teaching me how to use this rig. I have only fished with the Carolina rig for years and I needed something new. Thank you great video
The first time I used this set up I landed a 25.5 lb Flathead Catfish. I was using a small sunfish for bait. It's also good for catching Trophy size Largemouth Bass, just add a brass rattle to the line with surgical tubing for added attraction.
Nice video. Just got one of these. Gonna use it for stripers in a tidal river about an hour before the high tide is all the way in. There is almost no current in that time frame. Gonna use bunker chunks and live bluegill. Yes, I've caught stripers on live and cut bluegill before. That surprised me.
That's awesome man thanks. So when ur fishing bottom what rig are u using and then how does the pole float compare to ur bottom rigs as far as fish count. I'm asking because I think it would be cool to maybe do a video comparing the 2 side by side some time
I got a better tip, take a LED diode and a watch battery. Slide the battery in between the legs of the diode and electrical tape it together then tape it to the top of your bobber. So long as you take it apart and let it dry it can last up to 20 hours +
Awesome Man! I love watching them go down. I have another video on using glow sticks with these at night and it's really cool watching the glow stick through the water when it gets hit.
@@reelcatfishing4479 i use red blue green they last longer and easier to use u put a battiery in it and take tape tape it so the things will stay even tho some has rubber that holds the battiery i like to.use tape to make.sure it stays inn. and then take the tape and tape it on to ur bobber i take the tape couple times around to make sure its on there good and then when. the fish takes the bobber under sometimes u can see the light under water some times
Never used one like that but seen them it's like a big slip bobber thanks for showing it do you not use a sinker? An wouldn't it work with a Carolina rig ?
U can't use a sinker with it because it's already weighted. It will submerge with an extra sinker on it. And not sure about using it with a Carolina rig. Do u mean like making it into a Santee rig pretty much?
@@reelcatfishing4479 you can use a sinker on it. I have been using this rig for almost 30 years. I put a 3\4 oz sinker on under my weighted corks. And a 1oz under the unweighted. I done a vid on the cork set up. When I first started TH-cam. Never finished it cause I have never seen anyone but muddy river use a bobber for cats. It's super popular here in Ohio especially when fishing live bait for flatheads.
@@reelcatfishing4479 what keeps ur bait from floating up if no weight ? If in current using a float an no weight your bait isn't going to sink Only thing that makes a Carolina rig a Carolina rig is just a swivel with a leader line
I guess it may reflect on the weight of ur bait and hook. I added a sinker once on a windy day to see if I can slow it down a little more but it sunk. I was using an 8/0 hook with about a 3 inch peice of cut shad.
I guess I should refraze that...it would depend on the weight of the hook u use and size of the bait. I use 8/0 hooks with cut shad and 3 to 4 inch live blue gill and when I added a sinker it was too much weight. How ever if u are using smaller hooks and bait then a small weight shouldn't sink it. As far as adding a Carolina rig to it i would say it's possible but would be hard to get the exact depth measure out for the sinker to be on the bottom and then the float still able to stay afloat and I say this because I don't throw less then a 3 ounce weight on my Carolina rigs because of casting distance with big line. I do think it would be cool for u to try it though and do a video on it! If u can get it to work then u could be onto something pal!!!
great video! I will have to show my husband your channel because he loves fishing but never catches anything! 🤣 just subbed and hit the notification bell and would love it if we could support each other! xoxo Victoria Aniela
U definately need at least a 1/2 ounce sinker. If theres a lot of current u may need an ounce to two ounces of led. I use braid mainline and i have a mono leader tied on with a swivel. Leader is about 16 inches long and i add the weight about halfway down the leader
first of all how is this float any different from other slip floats? second why is it weighted? third does it not have too much buoyancy? because some fish are sensitive when they feel the drag of a bobber they will spit out the bait and finally it dont seem like this is suited for negative bites
Yeah it hard. If you get to much it sinks but not enough and it wont cast far and travels to fast. I used clamp on sinkers when I had a non weighted one years ago. I can't remember what size right off though. You can take them off and on fast so it was the easiest for me at the time
That's odd. I just tried it and it let me. Idk why it would be doing that to you for. Maybe try closing out and then opening it back up. Is it only that video like can you watch other videos right now?
I agree to a point. There are alot of companies trying to sale things that don't work and you don't need. However this rig works great. I have a few jug fishing videos with pole noodles that aren't fished on the bottom and I always catch a ton of cats in a little bit of time...this rig is the same concept of jug fishing and is awesome for live bait.
very well done. great trick adding the glow stick.keep up the good work.

Hey like the rig, I might give this a try!
It's a great rig for flathead catfish especially fished with live blue gill!
You can use zip ties as well to hold a glow stick on
Yes that’s what I do

Important tip: Wet the string stop before tightening it. If you tighten it dry and then get it wet, it will slip.
never fished for cats with this setup but I do it for crappie all the time just alot smaller profile

My gf has that in her nightstand… but she never wants to go fishin :(

Thanks pal!!!
Zip ties work better than tape
New Sub man you have a pretty cool channel good video brother
Thank you! I appreciate that man
How would you change where the bobber stopper/string would be after you tighten it if you happen to want to change depths
I’m late but you should be able to move the string with some force. But it’s strong enough to stay in place when casting
