Oh, and never, never sleep on Tool lyrics. Pull them babies up every time.
This is early Tool…raw, angry, introspective. The lyrics and music progress and mature just like we as adults mature in life. This is why Tool is not just music it’s a literal journey
Exactly. That's the beauty of Tools albums. Each one represents a different progression and tone around life experiences. Many very personal for Maynard but also vague and relevant enough that we can all learn and empathize.
That why I’m so glad I decided to do their stuff in chronological order. I kinda felt like there was something more at play here then just music
Well put.
It's about the cycle of abuse. The first two verses describe what happened to the character when he was a child and ow it traumatized him. But he was taught to "do unto others"... so he goes out and finds his own person to victimize, his "lamb and martyr" to abuse the way he had once been abused himself because it's the only thing that brings him "peace of mind". By becoming the abuser himself, he has "come around full circle". It is a very dark song about a very difficult subject matter. I'm subbed and I always enjoy your Tool reactions. Tool is GOAT.
Damn!! That’s sorta what I was picking up on but I didn’t wanna say it in case I was wrong. I didn’t want to upset anyone so I went with the analogy of life itself “screwing him”
Religiously.
You're gonna love the Ænema album man, it has the darkness of Undertow but becoming more "sophisticated"
Can’t wait!!
the song is about the cycle of child abuse , the song should feel dark considering the topic it covers
It's actually about the cycle of abuse through the forceful indoctrination of religion. The universal prayer position. Head down. Eyes closed. Hands bound. Mouth shut, wide open.
Your opinion

🤘🏻🌀
Back to back on a Monday..I needed this.
I've been watching and enjoying all your Tool reactions. Love your energy and just wanted to say you've gained a subscriber. Never be afraid to check the lyrics. They are always deep and can be interpreted in many ways by the listener. Just like your "The Grudge" reaction, you're meant to feel this music in your bones.
Keep up the good work! Can't wait to see your next reaction.
Traveling back to the beginning you can listen to a life cycle. Ebbs and flows of pain, struggle and growth. In real time, the wait for a new album release was almost a reflection period fans were included in on. To me the reason the Tool Army is, is because of the standards set, original details maintained and expanded upon. The time in between was a chance to breathe and appreciate every moment we get from the band
That's right, Maynard's primo vocals come standard when you opt into Tool fandom. Get ready to step up to flavor!
Your upbeat reactions continue to remind me why I love Tool so much. Thank you for doing what you do! 🤘
Haven't seen you on for while. Hope you are doing alright.
I was 15 in the summer of 1993 when i moved back to southern California, when this album and Dr Dre's the Chronic Dropped. Then came NINs Downward Spiral in 1994.
Where the fuck did Anks go??
Ikr he's the best Tool reactor
bru i love seeing ppl listen to tool
Ma man gets it ...niiiiice
Your moustache is fantastic
Mr Bungle!!! Come on do it again lol
Where have you been man?
It IS like being in a prison
I didn't know until TOOL ARMY explained in other comments, but Maynard was literally sexually abused as a child. Of course this lead to substance abuse which is the next song's topic as you know. What you don't know yet is this and the next album are about dealing with it so later albums can be about the enlightenment he shares. It's great therapy for me knowing it all comes from a real place. SPIRAL OUT! KEEP GOING!!
As far as I remember this is the first time I’m hearing about the sexual abuse but it does make sense for him to write a song like this. And with that context being clear Sober makes much more sense.
Complete bullshit comment.
Tool are waste cases. TRY. SUPERNAUT black Sabbath. Now there's a riff.
