Some fantastic players on both sides in that era. Back then international rugby league was the pinnacle of the sport. Ron Coote was outstanding. People forget what a tough player, half back, Billy Smith was. He had all the skills; rugged defence, strong in attack and a sound ball player.
Thank you for this clip. The game was so much different back in those days.
Interesting video ! Old school RL 😊
Was there a video of the game 🤔 all I saw was a guy prattle on
this fellow hasn't got a clue. Mal REILLY admitted in interview years later that he and the GB TEAM THOUGHT they could win the match as well as bash up the AUSSIES, BUT ended up loosing both. THE FIGHTS BROKE OUT after the final whistle WHEN THE GB WINGER ATKINSON HEAD BUTTED THE AUSSIE FULLBACK ERIC SIMMS. BIG MISTAKE AS ERIC IS AN ABORIGINAL FELLOW WHO WAS MORE THAN CAPABLE HOLDING HIS HANDS UP, SO ATKINSON COPPED A PASTING.
Britain always had the more violent tag so this was long
overdue.
Certainly was tough game in the 70,s. Far too many stoppages & bunker interference in
Todays game.
I don't think they used a ball in that match because it was irrelevant...hard brutal match...not like today's enimic offerings...bring back the biff!!!
Same old Aussies always cheating.
Bring back the punch up, rugby league in australia has become lame with constant stop and starts to go the video ref, penalties that aren't penalties and atrocious calls in each and every game.
I stopped watching in recent years, I began watching in the 70s
As you wish.
