Great game of football in a great era. Played by two great clubs….the high end class in both sides off the scale….

RL was a fantastic game to watch back then. The textbook tackling allowed quick play the balls.

The entire essence of the game was TOTALLY different compared to today. Far more emphasis on just playing the game than getting bogged down in strategy and sticking to rigid patterns. Not to mention actual jerseys instead of sponsor splattered t-shirts! Can we go back to this version of the NRL pleez????

I played as a kid....those jerseys were stinking hot, long sleeves, a real pain, no wonder they wear lightweight stuff these days

@@TheTralfaz There was a reason for those jerseys being made in that fashion. The game was played mostly in the heart of winter. Winter in Australia was really cold. Imagine playing at Bruce Stadium week in and week out.

My uncle had a film of this GF that he showed me in 1974. He introduced me to all the SS players, I got a book of autographs and a roll of stickers off them. (I had never seen such big men in my life. They were huge) I was just a kid but I've bled red and green ever since. 2014 was a long time between drinks.

Sadly, the way things are going, it's going to be a long time before the next drinks I think.

@@s.e.wagger3888 These men were legends of the game. They epitomised toughness, strength and determination. Plus they stood for something like George Piggins. He has to have a statue inside South Sydney HQ. I want them to include memorial of the men of that last great era of South Sydney.

Funny now thinking about the "big" men in the forwards.
I think John Sattler weighed around 95kg.
Mist halfbacks would be bigger now.

@@paulrankin8578 They played for the love of the game, because it meant & valued something to them. Now they want $25,000 a game and just pass a ball and be recognised as some immortal. Let’s put those players of today in the field of the players of yesteryear and under the same rules and conditions, you’ll find out not just how soft but pathetic they are.

@@clevelandwilliams5922 You make really good points especially how precious modern day players are. How about that AFL player last round who knocked the drink out of the hand of a spectators hand who dared pat him on the back near the fence line?
The spectator is banned from all AFL games until October 2024.Different game but same attitude.
Crowds filled the field at full time surrounding players as they walked off or even during post game interviews trying for autographs at most suburban Rugby League games

South Sydney were still not entirely done. They won the pre-season competition straight off the following season. They had to come from 0 - 10 down at half-time to win 11 - 10 versus Eastern Suburbs. I think that was under lights at night. Then it was turd uphill forever after for the Rabbitohs.

The news wants to compare the 4 peat Panthers to the squad of South Sydney Rabbitohs. They better go to South Sydney HQ and show their respect to a foundation club. Without South Sydney there would be no Rugby League and definitely no Panthers. Go fix your pot holes 🕳️
