This is a short video of some modifications that I am making to my homemade sawmill that I built several years ago..I am mainly dropping the overall height and adding a different lifting system for the sawmill head Along with a change on the ratchet mechanism

Getting all the parts together to build my own mill and was thinking of incorporating a "Chinese Windlass" type lifting mechanism for the blade ?
Honest scratch built engineering, solving problems through an iterative process, and using what you have available. I am sure every engineering company has used this approach. Great to see your enthusiasm tank is running at 110%.

You said one click equals 1/16 of an inch. How many teeth are on the upper sprockets on the 1in shaft?
I’m not at the shop. But I think it was around 39 and 9
So did the screw style lift work well enough?? I wanted to make my own sawmill and was considering making a screw style lift with a motor to drive it up and down
I didn’t like it. After about 6 months, the acme screw rod started binding up in the highly traveled area. I went back to the cable and shaft lift system. It is still working

The sprockets you use. Can you give tooth count and the dia.
If you get around 11 and 45, you should be ok
Uh hu. You be up in them mountains building stills if you wanted. Good ingenuity and it works. What the up with the ugly welds. Yay they ugly but well .....You scared? It's all so clever and works that patent for sale? I need two 16 clicks by 10 clicks. That's a 1x1/3" x 5/6"
I am an old fart and a disabled veteran.?I use to be able to see and weld good, but now days, just get by with getting by

Really good job on the lifting mechanism, I like that!! I'm using a boat winch on my mill and it works good but after time the teeth wear bad. Plus I didn't use big tubing on the back supports and for the wheels so my mill has flexing going down the track and it rocks side to side. Thinking of building a new mill this year. Awesome job on your mill!!!

The only sprockets I could find for the small one was 14 teeth the large one 36 teeth will these work do you have blade guides for sale I did find one on ebay that was 10 tooth thank you for your help
I have 1-1/4” and 1-1/2” blade guide rollers. They are $158 a set and include bearings. Shipping normally around $10-11

The 36 will be fine, but I would try to find a 9-10 tooth smaller sprocket. It will make it easier to lift up and down

How tall did you make the side post and the bottom feet.
The side post need to be 74” at the front. Not sure what your asking on bottom feet
Do you think that for the the side post hight 5 foot would be tall enough for the bottom feet 2 feet. And from one track to the other is 4 ft.

How many teeth are the sprockets .
as long as you are close to 7-9 and 39-40 you will be fine
The only sprockets I could find were the small one 14 tooth the large one 36 tooth will these work thank you very much for your help you do a grate job.
What is diameter of the of the big sprocket on your lift system
Just saw the question. sorry..You can get by with a 7-8" diameter
Make marks on your sprocket to help keep track of where the lock is at to help with moving 12 spaces. Just in case you lose track of counting to twelve. Good design

Hi, can a skew saw head induce blade dives.
On your engine problem. Add a bar from side to side of your back braces where your hand crank is at. That will help support the engine. And you mentioned in one of your other videos that you was gonna make a list of materials that one would need to build this mill. Would you be able to make up a set of plans to go with the parts for this that you sell on your web page?
If you are buying the parts.? . I could take the time to draw up some basic hand drawing. Don’t have any software to make engineering plans

Thanks for posting the video. I am not sure if you have mentioned in your previous videos but for your band wheels, do you have urethane tires or does the band blade rest right on the cast wheels?
not we use a v belt that fits in the grooved and it helps hold the blade centered
What it cost to build that mill
I probably have about $1200.00- $1300.00 or so in it. I sell some of the parts on my website at TXDashcovers.com under industrial section if it helps

I think this is a very good idea and I am building one like it a Copy could you make a video of your saw mill going from the bottom to the top showing the cable on each side I do like this idea thank you for posting this video

So why did you do away with the screws for the height adjustment?
The height was too tall for me . I had a hard time when I picked the sawmill up with my small forklift and then when I would try to put it in my garage, it would not fit through the door when it was on the forklift..
and then the crank for the sawmill head was mounted under the bottom top rail and when you put the sawmill on the tracks, it was too hard to reach
Plus I just like toying around with it and seeing what changes will do..
