    From what I see, correct me if I am wrong, there is none blade-tensionism mechanism as such, but you simply have to tamper with the threaded rods and nuts holding the plate with the idle wheel's pillow bearings, in order to relieve or rise tension on the blade.

    • @LarrySbrusch
      @LarrySbrusch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are correct..I can change a blade out in less than 5 minutes and to me that is a plus..It works great for me and is an option for others.. It may not be for everyone..I can say that it is something that an average person can do without having milling equipment to make blade tensioners like other sawmills have.. Could you tell us what the height of the sawmill is? Also could you explain how the threaded rods work for the raising of the sawmill? Do they go into nuts welded to the tubing? Great videos by the way.

    • @LarrySbrusch
      @LarrySbrusch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The overall height is 74" . my next build will not be that tall. I will go 65-66" and it should be fine..The threaded rod goes through the main frame and has the matching nut for the threaded rod welded to the underside of it, which in return lift the sawmill head up and down when the sprockets on top are rotated..Hope this helps. if not shoot me another message

    Hello Larry, a few questions. How big of trees/slabs can you cut on this mill? Does the 14 hp handle the large stuff?

    • @LarrySbrusch
      @LarrySbrusch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have cut slabs that are 46" Wide as long as they are pretty straight and you have to push it a little slower and allow the blade to do it's job,,but it cuts them fine..I could probably go a little bigger.. Most of my cuts are 12-19" and it is a little big for that

You had mentioned that you would have moved the unit back another 4" ,can you elaborate what you mean by that ? Thanks love your videos my friend !

    • @LarrySbrusch
      @LarrySbrusch  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The threaded rod is 1/2" diameter.. mine is around 54-56" long..you will need to adjust yours to fit the mill you are building...make sure to keep it lubricated...I believe they called it something like machine screw all thread rod..do not use the regular all thread rod, it will wear out very quickly..

    Just wondering, is there a particular reason why you didn't, put your uprights/ legs of the main body, in the middle of the rolling caster floor/ base legs , i would think it might be top heavy, & topple over towards the log your cutting, i mean i don't know, that's why I'm asking, i need to know what are your thoughts on this, is there no reason for concern of that, never the less, like I've said before, this is bad to the bone, i truly love love love your build, i really hope i haven't offended you with any of my comments, i truly meant no disrespect, believe me your the teacher & i need you to teach me all the in's & outs, because this is going to be my build soon & i really need to know everything there is to know to have a perfect operational mill, & i feel you are the 1 to teach perfection, again, thank you so much

      Check out my other sawmill builds. One of them shows me giving all the measurements of this sawmill in details

    I have an idea for a superior all around use bandsaw mill. It is like an alaskan mill but is all electric. The two hubs are ebike hub motors, about 12 inch diameter or so, and the supporting frame is lightweight, as hub motors are lightweight for what they are too. The motors are driven in paralell, and the driver is high current, not cheapo chinese shit electronics.
    The power is connected with either a battery or a high current dc supply. Solar or extension cord or whatever makes most sense.
    The main advantage is no noise, dust, smoke, vibrations,
    ANd the logs can be milled in place, as this is a much easier thing to handle, the logs dont need moving. The waste is just shavings and offcuts and that will be fine if left on location or whatever.
    2 hub motors instead of one power wheel and one follower means you get twice as much avaliable torque, Less likelyhood to break a blade, and better tracking. The tensioner can be aired up tires, and alignment can be done with shims.
    This has all of the advantages and very little disavantages. If it works on 120v that would be prefered, if not, then i think 48vdc is the only other sensible operation voltage, like the motors accept stock.
    They deliver alot of power and torque, I think 3kw per motor is easily attainable. That means 6kw of low loss power transfer. Low vibrational loss, and smooth laser like cutting. I would make one that can do 10 inch depth 42 inch width.
    The starter board straight edge method works great. and its very easy after that first cut, which is also easy. Then the slabs can be put on sawhorses and cut diemsionally with a circular saw.
    It makes most sense to leeave them as slabs, stacked dried and somewhat cured, in sun with black tarp.
    Overall, I think it would beat all other sawmills.
    Have a nice aluminum frame, light, anodized, with a throttle handle and a big flat platton.
    The tool would be useful and durable and easy to repair. The wheels are very sturdy though, and the motors too, because bikes take lots of differnt loading.
    What do you think?? Yours is good concept, but is not as streamline as it may seem. I think it needs to be lightweight, so no moving logs, just fork the stack when its cured in place.
