What you're describing is the True North Concepts thigh strap. Ours has more elastic and the mounting grommet making it substantially more comfortable and low profile.
Are you referring to using a screw that's too long binding up the two QLS plates? If so, yup, that's a thing but it will not be an issue if you use the screw we include with the Holster Leg Strap!

What attachment type are you using?
Zip tied one wrap onto the back. Esstac makes horizontal mount kywis now but this has worked well.
My strap has way less elastic. Actually, it's completely different. There's no grommet hole. I got a plastic plate and screws.

If the screws are to long when you put your holster on the long screws will lock up the two safariland pieces.
