    This video was a life saver!! As a DJ one of biggest issues with the new MacBook pros are the lack of USB options and the hubs that I’ve bought could never hold up due to the lack of power. Literally just bought this item after watch your video. Great content!!!

    Do you have a solution for using external SSDs over wifi when using the macbook different rooms in the house (i think the SSDs will have some performance decrease because of the wireless thing) but when connecting to the cable the SSDs deliver full performance? And THEN being able to unplug one of these SSDs for mobile work and use them for plugging it into the MB directly at a friends studio

    Thanks for showing this off. Was thinking of switching to the M1 Air as well, and wasn't sure if it would support a solution like this in my studio too. You got way more gear than me, and if this works for you, I'm set.

    Would the hub power a UAD Apollo 8 rack unit that runs TB3? Usually that has to go directly into my macbook to work.
    Also the best thing about that hub is the length of the wire. Usually hubs have very short cable length

      8 GB on a M1 is feels like 16 on a regular one- so unless you are going to program multiple orchestras it will work fine for you. We also have an Air M1 at home. 129 Track Production in Ableton with multiple instances of Kontakt, Nexus 3 and even Diva (everything not running natively!) is no problem 😜

    • @LexanderMiller
      @LexanderMiller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No? Apple warns you of this because there are a few bad apples that will write data without you knowing, but once you save everything and wait a second after it’s done saving, nothing should be transferring and USB devices are smart enough to know not to blow up when unplugged.

    **Buyer beware** Videos like this need to specify exactly what model MacBook Pro is being discussed as I recently purchased a Belkin USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) Gigabit Ethernet adapter for my mid-2015 MacBook Pro which is not compatible with a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 adapter. This model of MacBook Pro requires a Thunderbolt 2 Gigabit Ethernet adapter instead. Simply calling it a MacBook Pro is doing a disservice for those who may end up wasting money buying the wrong adapter.

    I bought this dock hoping to do the same with my m1 macbook air. Instead this wavlink introduced noise in every element of my studio. It shot noise through my audio interface (usb), the headphone output of the m1 mac. The headphone out of my 4k monitor, the audio output of the wavlink itself. I swapped it out for a caldigit thunderbolt 4 element hub, problem solved. I found the wavlink dock to be of cheap plastic and low quality in all aspects. I can say this video review should be looked at with the use of a c-clamp and shoddy cable management as the tip of the iceberg for prospective buyers. Lesson learned for me here. Thanks.

    The connection between the computer and the hub is Thunderbolt 3, not USB.
    If the cable is too long, you won't get the 40 GB/s Thunderbolt 3 speed. You will get 20 GB/s. The cable that comes with the hub is only 0.7 meters to do 40 GB/s.
    The Thunderbolt cable length spec for the high speed is pretty short unless you buy a more expensive active cable.
    I have a Thunderbolt 3 add-on card on my Windows 10 desktop. I use it to connect my Universal Audio Apollo 4X Thunderbolt and high speed storage

One Thunderbolt port used for my monitor, the second thunderbolt goes to a hub similar to yours (3 x thunderbolt ports including one for charging the M1, USB-C ports, HDMI ports). Could you please check the read/write speed of your external HDs connected via your thunderbolt hub? I have a Samsung T5 SSD and when connected directly to one of the MBP's thunderbolt ports,I get around 360 Mb/s read/write speeds. However, when connected to my thunderbolt hub, I get around 35 Mb/s! Maybe one cable setup cannot handle all the info --> bottleneck?

      I agree de-essing is needed on the majority of TH-cam dialogue not just on Jon’s channel. I watch TH-cam on my iPad so unfortunately I can’t use “Audio Highjack” as an option. So I’m stuck with the 👂 piercing SSSSS. I do think it’s ironic that a lot of the Audio/Music Producers on TH-cam teach you how to make your song perfect but then when it come to their own TH-cam production the Audio isn’t pristine. Sometimes it makes me question their actual ability as an Audio Producer/Engineer... sometimes.
