Order another. Tack on a paper plate target to a tree. Squirt it from different positions until you empty it. Stay off your cell, keep gel tube in hand, swivel your head, if ANY fears ask a bouncer , mall security, or a customer to watch you get safely to car...men live for that. Important, don't show off and let ANYONE touch it !!! They may press the trigger and the whole room WILL have to exit.
I know the post is old, but a lot of states have anti-stalking laws and certain protections now. Something to look into if anyone finds themselves in a stalking situation. And if you do live in a state with those laws, let's hope the police actually take it seriously. Too many [usually] women have been killed and attacked by stalkers because the police did absolutely nothing. But that's not saying they're worthless or anything. Police presence can discourage a crime from occurring, but ultimately police can only help during and after a crime is/has occurred. If a law hasn't been broken, they can't do much until then. So self defense is imperative to know, even if it's just carrying mace.

An important thing they forgot to mention: avoid using pepper spray indoors unless absolutely necessary. At a college I went to back in the day, a pepper spray canister a girl had on her keychain went off by accident and filled an entire classroom with pepper gas. Having to walk through a cloud of that nasty stuff is almost as bad getting it sprayed directly into your face.
This is not a problem, if you use stream version.
Pepperspray isn't a gas or aerosol. What you're talking about was probably mace.

Something that consumers need to be aware of is that the devise can gum up, causing it to not deploy for several seconds! I've cleaned mine well as it can accumulate debris Inna purse or pocket, but still found the range to be only 3 to 5 feet at best! This can mean your life when facing an attacking human or dog! The manufacturer recommends occasional test deployments to clear the nozzel, but that's just emptying your container! Use an ear swab dabbed in rubbing alcohol to occasionally clean the nozzel and safety latch, else it may not work when you need it!

One thing to keep in mind, the attacker may not always be a male. It slightly annoyed me that the woman only used the pronoun "he" when referring to "the attacker." You can never let your guard down, just because you don't see a man in sight.
Actually, 9 times out of 10 it is a male. Let's not jump on them for presenting this product. It is kind of missing the entire point in the presentation, isn't it?! Why is it we are all so ready to point out flaws?

When using pepper spray, be mindful that there is not a strong wind that could deflect the spray or blow it back onto your face. Also if it is raining, then this could dilute the potency of pepper spray.

The problem with 'chucking' the pepper spray is that your attacker could be quicker than you and pick it up and continue the chase!

Because these people want easy target and have no intention of killing. Terrorist/psycho/personal enemy would be a different story. we should also have the personal alarm too. It can scary off potential threat.
Yiwan Ye yes if the intention was to kill you, you wouldn't stand a chance. You'd be dead even without your attacker getting close to you. But for robbers and abductors they will get close to you without killing you because they want something else from you. That's when pepper spray can be effective!

@@171TITO Get a sharp-pointy pencil as well. Trust me, I've stabbed someone with a pencil (I didn't mean to cause their were my friend). And it actually worked. (Like again, I didn't mean to)
But if it was an attacker, stabbing a pencil would probably work too. But it would be better to use the pepper spray probably.
guys, never take advice from those self defense training videos, you'll forget the steps when you're pumping full of adrenaline. even if you're taking a class, you would have to repeat the same thing over and over and over again just to react in the desired way. instead, buy a self defense weapon, like a taser, pepper spray, a knife, etc.

I wish they would have mentioned that you should chuck the pepper spray bottle if you think someone is going to be able to take it away from you. Spray then chuck it. That way the attacker cannot use it against you. I passed my Pepper Spray Certification for CA yesterday.

Once you spray the eyes, spray the hands. Nothing worse than trying to relieve the pepper burn in your eyes with your hands coated.

Sure! It doesn't matter if the attacker is a woman or man, if you are in potential danger then you can of course use it or other self defense tools on the attacker to save your life.

look i know how to do pepper spray but when the wind is blowing where the attacker is coming and it is coming ur way but you really need to use it how do u use it when its too windy and thats all you have !

No, the MAXIMUM effective range of most civilian type pepper sprays is 10 ft. The point is you don't want the attacker too close, otherwise she can still grab you even when blinded, and keep you from escaping.

My concern would be accidentally using spray on myself. Surely it wouldn't be easy to cartoonishly have it accidentally turned around, but I've been around when bear spray, for example, has gone off, and let me tell you it affects everyone in the vicinity. Now obviously Mace won't have the same effect as bear spray might, but is there not still a concern that in using this sort of spray (which may not, hypothetically speaking, have ever been used and has been "on the shelf" for a good while) you may inadvertently incapacitate yourself too?

yeah well if you have ever been in hand to hand combat and you try to gouge the eye out because it's either your life or his you probably wont be able to follow through with it. It's gruesome. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do that to someone. There are other ways.

For regular OC sprays, yes. I work as a security guard and carry OC in my duty. I always shake it 30 minutes before the shift starts (for around 60 seconds), so it's mixed good when I start working. I carry Vexor -brand, so you need to shake them well. However, there are models built with a tiny compressed bag in it, which is containing the capsaicin that is connected to the liquid in the bottom with a small tube. So when you push the button, liquid goes up with a high pressure and goes through this compressed capsaicin bag, mixing the liquid and capsaicin just before it exits the spray's exit hole. You don't have to shake those kind of oc spray types.

Pepper Spray is fine. However, there are too many weaknesses. Limited range, both too far and too close (you don't want to spray someone that already has their hands on you, or it'll get all over you and you're done.)
A gun works better.
You're right, a gun does work better..but if the following court case doesn't go your way for some reason then you could be facing life in prison for shooting someone, you'd get a few years max for pepper spraying someone.
