never warn someone you are about to spray, this gives away the element of surprise and allows them to prepare. Just do a T-Shaped spray pattern like a cross ear to ear forehead to the chest. you want to spray them in the shirt actually as most of them will try to rub away the pepper stray with their clothing instinctively.
So basically, bless the deserving with a large dose of hot sauce.

It really depends on the situation. Once, a drunk was approaching a friend and me. I pulled my pepper spray out of my pocket and held it for him to see it. As soon as he saw it, he turned around and walked away. I didn't have to use it. I just showed what I had. But, every situation is different. One golden rule in any type of warfare (big or small) - never tell your enemy your plan. That may sound elementary, but you don't know how many people (in a fit of anger) tell the opponent what they're going to do, giving the opponent time and opportunity to counter-plan. Here's one example: a woman tells her husband that she's leaving him and she's going to take the children, get the house and all the money. The husband then plans to thwart these plans, and may use deadly force to do it. Never tell the enemy your plan. The surprise elements keep him/her/they off balance and not able to react quickly. Be wise in warfare.

Aim for eyes and mouth. Once it is swallowed the spray burns and is inhaled then is spreads internally to the sinus cavities and burns from the inside out. Aim center mass make contact then move spray to eyes and mouth. If you only get the eyes wait until the attacker screams and then spray some in the mouth. But be aware not everyone is affected by spray. I have had prisoners who were only mildly effected and could still fight, after being sprayed. Nice video!

I am an avid runner and sometimes like to do night runs. on one particular night I ran trough a familiar trail where some figure approached me quickly and aggressively. I couldn't see too wrll, but the amount I did spray immediately had them leaning over and coughing. I am confident that I could deploy this in any scenario, and even if the attacker was wearing diving goggles, by the sheer fact that this irritant affects their breathing as much as it does, there is no way they could outrun me.
I was wondering about that. The line seems so narrow if that it misses the eyes it's too late. Glad to hear their are other effective properties to it.
I had attacker with goggles on before... I did not use the spray but sounded my dog 85 Lbs pit/rot mix.
He saluted me. I think he had a fire arm. He showed zero fear, and laughed. And if stereo types are sometimes true... he should have tripped balls on the dog.
That said... it will hit the mouth... and be inside it in seconds even with closed mouth.
BE CALM... spray and keep space. Give it a second or 5 to work. They can’t see with wet red goggles. Not easily.
This stuff goes everywhere. The smallest amount will irritate your eyes, mouth ect and as soon as he touches his face and adjusts or checks anything... the burn deepens.
He’ll just back off or attack faster but loose sight once contacted with these chemicals even with goggles.
90%+ of attackers have no / little training. They just mean and dumb. Train and be prepared. Keep space and leave after attack. They could text someone, or get a new plan in mind.
You broke one of the rules of stupid. Don't do that next time or you might just win the stupid prize.
I recommend sticking some one-sided adhesive foam on the canister facing the direction it will shoot. It makes it easier to tell which direction its facing and ads a little grip.

I used one when I was 9 years old at a filed trip with a school. Here's a trick if someone wears glasses aim above the forehead so that the liquid will run down to the eyes.

If it was a surprise attack you would not have been prepared with pepper spray or a weapon.
As with their previous video, they forgot to mention something very important: DO NOT USE PEPPER SPRAY INDOORS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!
That stuff is straight up nasty and a cloud of it can linger for quite a while; doubly so if you discharge your pepper spray in an enclosed area, like inside a building. Walking through a cloud of pepper gas is almost as bad as getting it sprayed directly into your face.

Well there goes that idea of self defense because the only reason I would ever need it is in a domestic violence situation.
In an emergency situation just do what you have to do, right? If you have the product, spray it.
When using pepper spray, be mindful that there is not a strong wind that could deflect the spray or blow it back onto your face. Also if it is raining, then this could dilute the potency of pepper spray.
Going to have to disagree with their method. Treat it as a weapon. You never pull a weapon unless you are prepared to use it and when you do pull it you do it discretely and catch the attacker off guard. Holding up the pepper spray in one hand and your other hand up as if to say go away is foolish. The element of surprise is important when using this stuff if you let the attacker know you have it he will block the spray put his hands up etc and rush you. Also it’s never a coup,e sprays and it’s over. Empty the whole canister on the jerk hitting him from different angles by that time he will be on the ground in the fetal position
Exactly correct. Also, keep in mind that depending on what the attacker is doing (and what weapon they are brandishing at the time, if any) your best move may not actually be to back away at all but rather to close in tight on them and "wrap them up" so that they DON'T have the ability to land big, hard, devastating blows on you. Now, that may seem counter-intuitive, but there are times when you will actually want to close in tight and bring the fight directly to them (something they will NOT be expecting you to do at all). Now, that's not going to be the case ever time, but there will be times when that's the better option, depending on where they are relative to you when they launch their assault. Remember, the goal is to get as much of the spray into their eyes, nose and mouth as you can, as fast as you possibly can. The faster you can do that (and they can start to suffer from the effects of it) the sooner they will have to contend with those effects and the sooner you will be given the time and opportunity to get away as a result.
When you use spray hit them immediately in the nuts No time to waste because you never know if spray worked on the individual, or maybe his friend is coming from your back. This is the case if attacker wants to rob you. When someone attack you, you need to use everything to put them on the ground asap. Kick in the nuts is perfect tool to do that.
And remember no mercy in this kind of situations. Most people are consented about attacker health, so they will not use force in order to protect themselves.
Or you can just hit them in the kneecaps or in the bend of their knee. That works also.
@nenad jovanovic That's not stupid advice. That is a weak point in the human body. Have you ever been hit in the kneecap? It hurts a lot, doesn't it. Also hitting them in the bend of the knee will ALWAYS cause them to go down or at least lose their balance.
And no it doesn't require strength or skill. Especially if you already pepper sprayed them.

And when they're down on the ground, grab their nuts and twist hard. While they're screaming do that Kung Fu eye pocking move with two fingers. When they're blinded break their nose with your elbow, they'll never see it coming. If you have pliers at this point you can start extracting their nails.
I was attacked by 5 youngsters last year, luckily I was able to run away. I didn't have the spray that time nor anything else but fists. I will make sure to have it the next time.

I wrap mine with Skateboard deck tape. If it's raining and your hands are wet the little canister won't slip out of your grip. The deck tape also makes great pistol grip texture.

Good points, Worked in private security for 27 years. We were issued and carried Sabre Red foam. The foam works well for attackers wearing glasses. Best to get a good quality spray and not the cheap ones at Walmart. Buy from a police supply store or online places like Galls.
My personal change to the chin up rule:
Keep your chin down so you don't get knocked out as easily by a punch.
In a case like that, keep your distance and be wary of anyone who approaches you.
Pepper spray is an OP one shot weapon.

One other thing to keep in mind here is an old military saying: "Two is one and one is NONE!" This basically translates over to always have a backup! You NEVER want to just rely on ONE form of personal protection device any time you go out the door. You want to have MULTIPLE tools on you at all times that can offer at least some form of protection. Pepper sprays and gels are wonderful. But you should NEVER buy just one or ever rely on just one of them. These small canisters are very inexpensive and only cost from between $9 and $15 on average. You want to have multiple cannisters of it and you want to keep them in multiple places (again, always well out of the reach of any children). Yes, you want to keep your PRIMARY cannister in your hand at all times when you are walking, but that shouldn't ever be your ONLY cannister that you have on you. Have at least two or three OTHER cannisters located in OTHER spots on you that you can go to if you need them. If you lose your primary for any reason you can then immediately reach for your secondary one. Just like you should never assume that there is only ONE attacker until a threat is fully neutralized, you should never rely on just ONE means of defense. Anyone that is familiar with the principles of self-defense will tell you: You ALWAYS want to have a backup plan for your backup plan!

The other #1 tip is to buy two and use one for practice in your back yard. Usually they're under $20 and they could save your life. Many canisters require specific thumb placement or high thumb pressure to fire and fire at full force.
They have practice ones filled with water for this idiot lol
I’m not wasting 20 dollars on practice I’ll waste it after the enemy is away and I’m free from danger that I can justify but before hand? Just watch some videos if you buy a trusted pepper spray or gel from a brand you shouldn’t have to worry about it not working with that ideology you’d be broke and every product would potential be defective watch videos be prepared god hope it never has to happen but it’s better for a lot of situations you don’t want to fight or use lethal force which is most times never acceptable.

Glasses could potentially help, but don't guarantee you wouldn't be affected by any wind blowback. As with any personal defense tool it is important to get professional training as well as practice with your defensive tool. This is to ensure you know the tool's limitation and capabilities as well as your own.
Thank you Leah for your comment. The recommendation in the video off line is for someone alone while being attacked. Once past the natural reaction (regardless of training everyone initially reacts as an individual) your movement will most likely be one of a protective nature. Either moving in front of your child in a shielding manner to confront the attacker or turning the wheelchair to move your child out of harms way then addressing the attack. I would recommend seeking out training that specifically addresses your situation so that you're best prepared for the worst case scenario.

Even if you can’t spray them directly in the eyes aim for the face. I inhaled it and it sucks to breathe in, it took me a little bit to get my composure and catch my breath. Also if you just hit the face it probably will end up affecting the eyes in some way, and will cause extreme burning on the face. Just remember to only use it on other people in emergency situations

Guys when you shoot, this might sound obvious but, do not approach the area where you shot it. It happened to me, I sprayed the bumps and without thinking I chased them in the same direction where I shot them with the spray, needles to say my eyes burnt like hell but it seems I didint swallow it so it just affected my eyes. It also seems I didnt consume much so the effect went away quickly.
This stupid act of mine has taught me think critically when or how do I do this, and to always start to step back slowly when you shoot it and leave the area quickly. Also cover your mouth with your elbow and be careful shooting it with wind around.

Pepper gel is better. It streams instead of spray. Better aim and contact!
Gel also takes a bit longer to take effect unless you get a direct hit to the eye.
I just used OC spray on an assailant and I forgot the long range and I let him get too close . Although he did make contact the spray diminished him by 99 percent and I pushed him off easily. I’d back up while using if there’s ever a next time …which I hope there isn’t
Pepper gel can work, but I got sprayed with it, and it takes a good 20 seconds for my eyes to shut

Generally speaking, you want to focus on eyes, nose and mouth. To be able to fight an attacker has to do two things: see and breath. The more spray you can put in their eyes, nose and mouth the less ability they are going to have to do those two things and the less able they will be to continue their attack against you. Even with glasses on, you put enough of that stuff on their face and you are going to have their undivided attention, for sure.

I wonder why they didn't talk about direction of the wind. Did I miss something? Seems like it would be something to consider. You might hit innocent bystanders. Those bystanders also might defend you, so you don't want to neutralize them.

how about to using two pepper sprays at the time ?
The only people I worry about attacking me are my wife or my 7 roommates. In that case I have to spray them and then get to my phone and call police so I'd better have my phone when I escape the house. When my wife attacked me 20 years ago I didn't have pepper spray and I didn't have a cell phone. She had a habit of punching and hitting me not letting me leave. Then she would accuse me of assault when I had no choice but to fight back.

Just use the kid and carrage as a shield. You may lose the kid but you can make another one.
You don't, you stay and fight - and you KEEP fighting until the threat is neutralized. Another reason why you always want to have MULTIPLE weapons on you at ALL times!

Yes, the attacker will inhale the product through nose and mouth. Also, the Sabre Red will leave a fairly thick red stain on the glasses making it difficult to see through them. Spray and get out of the way.

This is exactly why you always want to have MULTIPLE weapons of MULTIPLE types on you at all times. Pepper sprays/gels, tactical pens, Tazers, flash lights, pocket knives, etc. Never rely on just one type of weapon. Multiple types of weapons give you multiple options. Not every weapon is going to be right for every type of attack scenario.

A high lumen tatical flashlight can have the same effect as pepper spray including in day light
I am not a personal defense expert but if you think that true I dont think a flashlight can blow on you in a windy day so maybe its a better choice
Actually, you really want to have BOTH on you at all times. A very good option there is the BOULDER by Anker. Very small and easy to carry in any pocket. Also rechargeable by USB. Often times putting a VERY bright light directly into the eyes of your attacker can be enough to temporarily blind them cause them to pause for the second or two that you need to get away. ALWAYS a good idea to have one of those on you at ALL times as well.
I tried once and it upsets my attacker, I tried a gun now he's dead.

I well the problem with pepper spray is legally I think it quailifies as an aersol subject restraint in some places it could possibly be deem prohibted. If you do not know martial art and are relying on your spray how do you defend your self in place where weapons are banned? I have never herd of a place that will confiscate your use of the body as a self defense weapon do you have an answer to my question? a crime could happen in a place you are not allowed to have a self defesne weapon

I am elderly and would love to have one to keep at home, but unfortunately they are illegal in the UK.
what good is it when you cant carry a 4 ounce can?
I’ve used Sabre Red a couple times once against dude w/ krombit and once against ultra aggressive dog... worked great for me.
I’ve also taken out 2X and kept it hidden, didn’t need to use it, one time I did show it hard and centered and the dude changed aggressive tune fast and was mega polite... I put it away and he started up again, it was fine to leave as my business was done and not that safe to hang with him around as I’m happy and comfortable around trouble flirting aggressive sociopaths.
I use a left hip holster now on belt, edc, practice grip, shooting, and deployment once a month and now I never think about it, it’s always there.
Because I do part time taxi work I’ve needed this more then most and not just with rare customers but criminals walking by while I’m on break testing or stretching between rides on public streets.

But what about attackers wearing sunglasses? Every single road rage guy I've encountered was always wearing sunglasses. It just seems to be my luck that every single angry idiot that gets out of his vehicle to confront me is wearing sunglasses. I haven't been in the position where I needed to defend myself, but the next angry road rager could be even crazier. And I can guarantee he WILL be wearing sunglasses. The number of road rage incidents in my area is rising sharply and usually happen during the summer months, and almost always start because of some idiot move he made while driving and gets angry when someone calls him out for it. So will aiming for the mouth and nose be enough to subdue an attacker?
Aiming at the mouth and nose “could” but changing targets isn’t advised. When talking to experts in teaching the proper use of pepper spray the delivery system most recommended is the stream delivery. So with stream you aim eye box and should spray in bursts side to side and most likely it will get behind glasses. If you lower your aim it may not and you definitely want it in the eyes. I idea of not changing your aim is that the stream will drip down the face and get eyes even with glasses, it may be delayed though. Finally, keep in mind that an estimated 10-15% of population is not affected by Oleoresin capsicum (OC) the active ingredient.

Sort of like forgetting to wash one's hands after slicing Habanero Peppers or Ghost Chilis and then going pee and getting the full burn when stuffing it back in to zip up. I know that feeling.

Unless the bad guy has a gun this is the best option, Id even trust it against someone with a knife. but for fire power you should have fire power. someine could still pull a trigger if there blind, but if you blind someone with a knife or any thing else you buy time to get away safely. id like to find something like this with a pistol style grip if they even make them im aure they do.
Good point. It's actually wise to keep MULTIPLE weapons on you at all times - and keep them in MULTIPLE places on you. Yes, you want to have your pepper spray/gel in your hand and at the ready when out and about, but you need to have SEVERAL other weapons on you ready to go as well in case that primary weapon fails or is lost for any reason. Knives, tactical pens, personal body alarms, Tazers, flashlights - all of those have a role to play in personal defense and it never hurts to have a backup plan for your backup plan! NEVER rely on any one weapon alone to keep you safe.

This is true, as of today there are VERY few actual weapons that you can legally carry with you on a plane. One that is allowed is a small metal flashlight that is 7" or under. A good example would be the all-metal, USB rechargeable BOULDER flashlight from Anker. That's not a traditional weapon, of course, but in the right hands it can do a fair amount of damage, when needed, for sure. Something to keep in mind when traveling.

Purchased DSLR w/Christmas bonus. Yesterday went to park to take cool "raging water" photos. Called non-emergency police because I didn't feel safe walking back to car. (Though mind was scattered when talking to police, I thankfully remembered I used telephoto & discreetly got decent photo of 2 young men to show officers.)
