Aqua has not just contributed, her actions shaped the world of Konosuba entirely. ° The guy who build the mobile fortress destroyer? A guy from earth who was *'most probably'* isekai'd by Aqua. ° Hans, the deadly slime? A German guy who for some reason became a super dangerous slime, probably isekai'd by Aqua though. :D ° The Crimson Demon clan's entire existence, also because of the guy Aqua isekai'd, the same dude who build the destroyer. ° Mitsurugi? Another dude Aqua isekai'd. At this point I only wait for the moment where the Demon King somehow comes out as yet another guy who is only waging war against Humanity because of the Axis cult or something, because Aqua has let them rampant and be the MENACE ON SOCIETY they are! 😁 If you join the Axis Cult, you actually get a penalty on your natural intelligence, just because Aqua, the guardian Deity of the Cult herself, is not the brightest firefly out there. 😆 Eris comes down and travels the world occasionally. So why couldn't Aqua do it before? And make her Axis Cult more decent? We all know why. 😏 Because *'she doesn't care'* just wants to eat ships in the limbo and entertain herself. She can actually even proof she is a goddess! By a hidden detail that exists, thanks to those who analysed the Konosuba worlds language. On her adventurer card, her *'race'* is written as *'Goddess'* while others are 'Human' instead. But yeah... nobody notices. Not even Aqua herself.
@@tobeymaguire647 well no, or yes idk. It was said the Demon King's name was japanese but it was clearly shown in the novels it wasn't maybe, yeah that part was sorta brushed to the OVA's and spin-offs
The best genre parodies tend to be just good stories set in the genre, because to make a good parody, you need an understanding of a genres strengths and issues and then write with those in mind.
@@frankwest5388 right. Because the creators have to be genre savvy to make the parody work, they are more of a love letter to the genre it parodies than truly mocking.
It's more of a pastiche than a parody/mockery. It don't actually show that isekais are lame and stupid but prefer to play with the tropes of the genre to make a good comedy
“This feels real because this is how friends in real life interact.” YES. That’s why this show is so great to me. It’s incredibly self-aware and the way the characters act is much like how you’d expect real people to act if they got sent to a different world.
the way characters act if they got sent to a different world was not to judge in this series. but it's better in the anime like Hai to Genshou no Grimgar in the serious/realistic way. but yes, konosuba's real friends act was always be the best for me
Real. Nobody is put on a pedestal. The mc isn't really into anybody. Nobody is really into the mc. A relationship could develop naturally between any of them from those foundations.

What made me tear up a bit was that kazuma's parents laughing their ass of towards kazuma's death was said as an act for them to cope with their child's death....or that they're just seriously laughing he died in a stupid way.
@@Brasswatchman very true, i had it happen that i burst out laughing in the middle of my grandmother's funeral, i was so ashamed at that, but my brain just short-circuited and decided that almost manic laughing was the best answer to that situation. i never did well in social situation, regardless of what they are, but that has been the moment i realized i cannot trust my brain one bit. but in all seriousness, it is a known thing that in tragic circumstances people can burst into inexplicable laughter like i did at the funeral so i can genuinely see that kazuma's parents would bust into laughter when they heard how he died, not because they didn't care, but because of the saddness, stress and mourning mixing at that moment with the absurdity of the situation.
that one part from the movie where aqua pulled up his pants without anyone telling her to and the part where he gets traumatized from the female orcs both times she didn't laugh at him but instead deiced to help him look like less of a fool with his pants down and actually comforting him when he got traumatized is another one of those moments where instead of reminding us that she's the dumb useless character we see that she also cares a lot about him than making fun of him and laughing at him. it also shows that she can actually be really mature when the situation calls for it
Aqua is my favorite character. When Kazuma was out due to his "responsibilities"(actually just messed around) for a week, Aqua cooked dinner for him everyday. Also **spoiler** my favorite and emotional part of the LN is the part when Aqua cried genuine tears of sadness.
Yeah man aqua and kazuma actually have like a really genuine and deep bond, I feel like even more so than any of the other characters and you can definitely see it, and that’s also why y’know they can just fuck with each other, because at the end of the day they’re still always gonna be there for each other.
My absolute favorite thing about kazuma's voice actor is that he was a relative nobody in the JN voice acting scene. His most popular roles up till that point was Steph's dad from NGNL and the MC from Kotoura-san. In spite of this he whipped out all this talent and skill from absolutely nowhere and blew everyone away.
Aqua has a real canonical reason why she never gets smarter: as a goddess, her INT level was maxed out, meaning no matter how long she grinds levels, she can never raise her INT, so no matter how much experience she gains, she literally can't learn from them.
The first 5 minutes really cements Kazuma’s character for me. He is constantly ripped on for being a selfish, cowardly asshole but the entire reason he is there is because he gave his life to save a random person. At his core Kazuma an heroic person that puts the lives of other people above his own.
Reevaluation of the self. What have ye become? You have fallen and forfeited the spiritual inheritance. You'll never find the light to remove the darkness in your unsparked body. You weeb abominations of the archons, no star shall guide you in the clearest of nights, no wind will blow your sail even in the most intense of gales. You and your archonic weeaboo kinds lack Synesis to appreciate the light of the world of the Aeons. You are far away, far away from the light. Ask yourself, ''What have I become?'', ''Will I ever find my place in the sun?'', ''Will I ever find Jerusalem?''. A person must test himself before eating his share of the bread and drinking from the cup, for he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgement on himself. I wrote I may say, to see how you stood the test. Under the test of this service, you will glorify the Aiōn Teleos by your obedience in acknowledging the Gospel of The Word of Spiritual Intellect. Examine yourselves: are you living the Life of Faith? Put yourselves to the test. Surely you recognize that Sophia the Aeon is among you unless of course you prove unequal to the test. Let each person test his/her own work. Consider the punishment of Sophia; who can make straight what he has made crooked? Which proves more short than waste or ruining? Have I not seen dwellers on form and favor? Lose all and more by paying too much rent, For compound sweet forgoing simple savor, Pitiful thrivers, in their gazing spent? No, let me be obsequious in thy heart, And tell you: May the contrite soul, the humbled spirit be acceptable to Truth as death of rams and bullocks, as thousands of fatted lambs: such let our new sacrifice be with you today, and may it be your will that we follow wholeheartedly, since those who put their trust in you will not be disappointed. Weeaboos are far away from the light, their mind shrouded with instinctive darkness of the material realm dominated by the archetype of the ego. Otakus will never hold anything dear to their true egotistical selfish wrathful sarkic indignation. Unlike a leaf on the wind, a weeaboo will never land on their place on the sun. Sarkics draining the light of Sophia bringing upon the archons. You shackle the Elpis brought upon by aeons from the tree of life. You drain the pneuma upon the ethos of the Pleroma. Would the tide of change go in favor to the power of the archons? The weeb flourishes free in the modern age with no regards to the pneuma of the aeons. The weeaboo is free to spread their dominion upon the pneumatics. The Pleroma holds against the horde of hylics unleashed upon by androgynous archons forces under the Demiurge. The weeaboo is a seducer like an archon to normalize savagery of the flesh, the lowest of the mind, the instinctive level, the Sarkic weebs. The sarkic abomination of the Demiurge. What wrath shall thee unsleash upon the material world? Weeaboo abomination subjugation of the instinct upon the divine intellect. The Sagrada Familia is an epitome of the power of the divine intellect gifted by the aeons. You and your weeb kinds are unknowingly shrouding the gift of the divine intellect in humanity by spreading lies made by the archons to which you conceive to your marriage with the flesh. You are at the far end of the tether and when your thoughts won't fit together you'll need to deprogram your mind. It's like seeing a new day. Just what you need to make you nearer to the light. Ekklesiastikos Ainos pneuma rejuvenated by the star dust beyond the Material realm. You are a gross group of fetishists of young people. You have made a gross cultural materialist perversion of Gaia's innocents. A core part of the consumption crisis that weeaboos exploit is the perceived lustfulness thought by weebs in children. This subjugation of archonic weebs over innocents that can't express to adults their thoughts is a way for weebs to take the image of children and replace them to become one with the Demiurge. The profound blocking of genetic diversity done by weebs to the nature of the innocence of children is to ensure that weebs destroy the age of consent and weebs would now completely take the image of Gaia's children and fulfill their sarkic desires. The unprincipled exception of archonic transcription to tolerate a hierarchy of The Loyal Society of the Flesh. The metabrain of the archonic weeaboos pervades society to enshroud the inherited light through metagenesis locking human psyche that would guarantee reign of the Egotistical self that the Shadow hold inside our repressed self that reach back to the realm of our animal ancestors. The weeaboo guarantees such a transformation to occur and continue the rule of the Demiurge to block the light from reaching the Pleroma. The principle of natural selection does not require it, selection can operate rapidly. The weebs are a psychological rapid evolutionary deviated offshoot from the Homo Sapiens Sapiens species naturally selected by archonic forces. Geneticist Goldschmidt continued, every once in a while a macromutation might, by sheer good fortune, adapt an otaku to a new mode of life, a "hopeful monster" in his terminology. Macroevolution proceeds by the rare success of these hopeful monsters, not by an accumulation of small changes within populations. The mutant gene produces its effect by changing the rates of partial processes of development. These significant change of genetic phenotype causes the individual to new behavioral changes. Response to external stimuli is drastically changed by macromutations to account for change in the phenotype of the individual. This drastic change leads to the fulfillment of the increase of the darkness inscribed into an individual. The individual loses their control on their behavior which their environmental influences, in this case fandom obsession, takes over and becomes the primary role of the individual's character, metacognition, evaluation of social constructs, perception of reality, fictional precedence over thoughts and feelings, and losing the ability to distinguish different unique precedences. These psychological change of character of an individual is due to environmental and genetic factors inhibiting normal development of the weeaboo. Why would different partial processes of development be a significant factor to a species? Of what possible use are the imperfect incipient stages of useful structures? What good is half a jaw or half a wing? The concept of preadaptation provides the conventional answer by permitting us to argue that incipient stages performed different functions. The purpose of behavioral changes on the Homo Sapiens Sapiens in regards to the creation of an established preconceived behaviors is that these major adaptational changes in behavior is that it serves as a purpose to stall the creative useful potential behavior of the individual to the point that they unknowingly use material and informational capacity and to waste these resources in order for it to be diverted for selfish and anti developmental capacities that which their logos is diverted to the self which makes them economical and genetic burdens to both society and nature due to egotistical restrictions brought upon by environmental and genetic factors. The archons permeate these genetic phenotypes through increasing hormonal inputs of the individual. The environmental factors that change perception and behavior of an individual is because of the creation of artifacts, any medium anime related, that imbues perception of hormonal change that affects metacognitively only to those whose genetic development has been altered through genetic macromutation. The effect of these genetic and environmental changes to a weeb´s behavior is behavioral isolation due to speciation with their egotistical changed cognition. Behavioral isolation occurs when populations of the same species begin to develop different behaviors that are not recognized or preferred by members in another population. This so called behavioral isolation of sympatric speciation that creates changes to an individual from the same member of a species in the same geographic feature. Because there is no mate recognition between a weeaboo and non-weeaboo due to their behavioral isolation and their genetic and environmental deviations and differences.
The fact of it being a tractor and his death being in vain further cements this. He didn’t even take a moment to think and assess the situation. He just acted the moment he felt like someone was in danger, regardless of his own safety
in kazuma's defense he did stay awake for four days before he tried to save the girl from truck-kun. anyone would be hallucinating after being awake for 96+ hours.
Yes! This is why Kazuma is my favorite character. I know that no matter what, he will show integrity. He will stay true to what he believes is *right* and *moral*
@@therealslimshawty1854 He might have his pervy moments or jerkass tendencies, but Kazuma usually comes around quick. (Like when he took Kyouya's big sword after defeating him in a duel for Aqua, and threatening to use "Steal" on Kyouya's female teammates when they object. Knowing Aqua's bar tabs, first thing he does is sell the big sword.)
Darkness seriously redefined what the word "shameless" means, and to see her genuinely get embarrassed during the Lalatina arc was quite surprising even though it may not seem much.
You said how you don’t like the succubus episode but that one is one of my favorites because it’s literally the manliness that they ever show him. He’s fully ready to take responsibility over his own mistake that could lead to the death of an innocent succubus.
Another thing about Kazuma is they call him “trash” and all that, but the reason he died is because he thought he was trying to save someone. I mean he didn’t need to, she wasn’t in any danger, but he believed he was saving someone. That shows his character. Even if he was being… stupid.
Plus every time one of the demon kings henchman were killed kazuma ended up dying with them. He put his life on the line when fighting the slime dude and the snake lady knowing he was gonna die painfully
exactly, even though the result was shameful and pathetic, his intention was heroic, he truly thought he was saving someone's life, and that shows even more in the series and movie, even when the catastrophe currently happening is WAY out of his control, he WILL find a way to save everyone
Very true, I can honestly say that the darkness parts of the show and some of the other parts are legitimately some of the funniest shit I've seen in anime. Many anime have "comedy" that's either annoying or just makes you slightly smile and breathe out your nose. But Konosuba will actually make you laugh out loud.
I really enjoy the color scheme between all of the main characters like it's easy to distinguish between them all: Megunin - Red/Brown Darkness - Yellow/white Aqua - Blue Kazuma - Green Wiz - Purple (though she's not part of the main group)
According to several interviews I’ve read with the author. The main focus of his writing is in character interaction, tempo and the readability of the whole text. I think this aspect kinda shows not only on how funny it is but also on the delivery and how the “mechanics” or different “lore” aspects of the new world are explained. The story also takes a weird approach, because it’s not the main focus. The story is written with the beginning and the ending set in stone and the middle left open-ended and flexible. So in my opinion, not everything is smartly calculated to happen like a plan from Joseph Joestar, but more like the author knew how to continue the story based on how the series and himsef were doing irl. And also how he knew how to pick up things down the line to give them some importance. Example, 2 scenes from volume 3 which play a role in the romantic story further on: (the aforementioned bath scene with Megumin, which graduates her from a loli character, though Kazuma doesn’t care and continues calling her a loli) and (Darkness reveal of her identity as an aristocrat, which not only shows Kazuma’s regard for the whole nobility thing along with treating her the same, but also how he doesn’t think that she is an unreachable or not a potential love interest [cause non were from the beginning], and it plays later on why Darkness likes Kazuma). This is my humble opinion though, could be wrong. I didn’t agree on everything, but really liked the video, nice editing and a nice to hear voice, great.
'He went from a cynical guy who hated the world to someone who willing to die and come back for it' , yet he may hate that world in the beginning , but he ultimately loves and cherishes it. That explains why the title of the show is 'God blessing on this wonderful world'.
There's something about Darkness that I have come to respect over the years. She is a masochist who loves being bullied and degraded both physically and mentally, but would never allow it to happen to someone else. She starts the series off by acting like a highly noble warrior with a proud sense of duty, but in reality is running away from her duties as a noble lady. Later on she starts to accept more and more of her duties and responsibilities as a noble, while at the same time becoming a far wiser adventurer.
What I love is they act like ACTUAL friends when they're in a group. They care deeply but never miss the chance to be absolute turds to each other. Kazuma is like the den mother for a troupe of derpy idiot children. Jaded and tired but still caring. Aqua is that friend that always disappears immediately when they start drinking. A spaz but loveable Darkness is the one that starts a barfight they absolutely cannot win. Then you have to rescue while they laugh about getting whooped. She's super trustworthy but always attracts trouble. Megumin is the one egging the friend on in the barfight but can't even survive a slap. Always shite-stirring but never hesitates to back up her friends.
megumin is powerful bro she also have a powerful heart , i love how she looks dumb and cute but got so much magical power .............. all girls in this anime are something...
A person that loves to be hurt, a maniac that want to make everything explode, a man that's just want to cuddle a Milf, and Aqua. All of that has a deeper meaning.
A masocistic women a loli t sundere a man that try to do good but always get blame as the scumbag (but some time he is) and an anoying self proclaim goddess and whom name is aqua
As much as I love Megumin, Darkness is life and the biggest reason I fell in love with the show. It was already great when it was just the 3 of them but when Darkness joined it went from great to epic/classic. She was that final piece(and what a piece at that) that made the crew and the show complete.
@@ionlycreatedthissothatican6859 i hate what the author did to Darkness man what the hell was volume 12 (jk still enjoyed it but they definitely could have done better)
@@kashu8774 Funnily enough... You're actually right. Haha Which is weird because she is smart and has good ideas, but she never thinks things through which is the embodiment of High Int Low Wis.
You would be right if you base it in D&D stats. In many JRPGs, you have INT for damage and healing main stat is Spirit. So Aqua lacks the INT but her spirit is over the top. And Spirit has nothing to do with Wisdom so it fits.
You mention about how one of the best parts of Konosuba is the fact that you can tell everyone working on it was having fun, and I just want to add one thing: The English dub actors clearly don't take themselves seriously at all, and it works so well. People often compare the dub to a TH-cam abridged parody because the whole thing is like Konosuba parodying itself. The only other show I've watched where the sub and dub are totally different experiences is Kaguya-sama, which also treats it's own dub as a huge inside joke. And most importantly, it gives you an excuse to rewatch the show and enjoy it in a different way. The sub is obviously still better, but the dub has a unique charm to it that I think any Konosuba fan should watch at least once
This is the redition that I could've never explained. The fact that you took the love for this series & somehow put it into works is mind-blowing. This really re-juiced the love I have for this series. I'm actually gonna start reading the light novels before I come back & re watch this. You really earned my subscription. How do I subscribe twice??
6:20 Kazuma could have pushed the girl out of the way, the Truck would miss her and also miss Kazuma. Then a Giant Meteor would have hit Kazuma instead.
Something I always appreciated about Aqua is that she’s super handy in regular non-goddess-y things. Like working construction, arts and crafts, being a food seller, fucking SEWING. You even see that she takes it upon herself to do the parties laundry while using her goddess staff as a drying stick in the second ED. Goes to show that being ‘useless’ doesn’t mean you can’t be ‘useful’ as redundant as that is lol
It's because art is her divine domain. She isn't smart because smarts isn't part of said domain and thus her nature, but she's extremely hardworking and meticulous. And everything she makes is a boba fide work of art, be it an objet d'art, like city walls, or a performance, like her party tricks. And now that you have noticed it, let me ask you: what is Eris' domain and why does she always act like a thief? That girl isn't nearly as good as she shows, I tell you! Her breasts aren't the only padded part!
Konosuba's anime is what you get when you give an amazing crew a limited budget but tell them to go ham. They don't just roll with it, they ride the thing into the stars. Also I really loved your little take on the light novel.
20:53 I was rewatching this video bc it just apeared in my timeline and I gor curious of how diferent it would be after watching everything and currently watching s3 BUT HOW DID I NOT SAY A THING about your narrator skills the first time I watched this!?? I NEED THE WHOLE LN narrated by you rn!
Darkness' deserves SO much more than she gets. She's by far the most mature. She tries so hard, and gets almost nothing for it. She's WAY too overlooked as a character.
She’s not a bad character, she just gets old really quick After the first couple volumes of the ln she just stops getting character development and repeats the same 2 jokes of being a masochist or a noble over and over again with that as her only personality traits, unlike megumin who got a lot more focus and character development
I would LOVE for a sequel/spinoff of Konosuba to exist that focuses on Komekko and Chomusuke some years after vol 17 (possibly against the Demon King's daughter?)
If you know, Komekko is a hidden badass of the story, a series focused on Komekko would be mean an Op mc with her being having Greater demons familliar on her side
As ridiculous as konosuba gets, I always get a cozy home-like feeling while consuming it. As you get to know the characters and their inside jokes and start truly caring for them, it starts to feel like you're a part of the group as you follow them through their shenanigans. I haven't felt this way about any other fictional work and I think it's part of konosuba's success
Everyone says Aqua is useless so I'm glad you added a section detailing literally everything I tell people when they say shes useless. She's the reason they're still alive and the reason they could have a mansion in the first place, not to mention shes the only person who could summon a flood. She might have damaged the town, but she basically warned kazuma, saying "I can summon a flood" and when he said "Yeah, that, do that!", she did exactly that. I blame kazuma for the damage she caused because kazuma instructed her to summon a literal flood. He should have been more specific, and given her low intelligence stat, he should have known this, although his intelligence stat is relatively average iirc, so maybe he wouldn't have realized this, but he shoulda. Aqua has no combat skills, but she excells in damn near everything else lol
Aqua is useless from an adventurer perspective. If you have a character who adds as many problems as she solves then yes she is useless. But she makes the plot advance so she is not useless from a narrative perspective.
@@ChaosAngel667 I will say, one that that Konosuba does is give the women agency in the plot. Most anime just rely on the dudes and don't give the chicks any agency, almost like they're just "there" and that's something I appreciated about Konosuba cuz another female who had agency was Megumin. If it wasn't for her unleashing explosion on that Dulahan General's castle, they never would have downed him in the first place cuz he would have been passive.
@@growingoaks I agree but I think the real reason goes deeper. Women in konosuba have agency because they have accountability. If aqua does something wrong then aqua suffers the consequences. Same with all the cast. In other anime specially isekai if a girl does something wrong the simp will be there to bail her out and there will be no consequences whatsoever so the girl never gets a chance to undo those consequences or have a meaningful arc. For example in SAO on the first season there was a loli who did life ending mistakes like accepting a quest above her paygrade and trying it solo. It worked out for her because simp was there to simp for her. The loli learned nothing, changed nothing, had no influence on the plot and her character growth never happened.
@@ChaosAngel667 That's totally fair! As much as I dislike kazuma for being a total creep and pervert, dude doesn't simp for any of them, even his crush megumin, and that does change the dynamic quite a bit.
Best way to explain the Light Novels. Vol 1 to Vol 4, Beginning of Konosuba Vol 5 to Vol 10, Middle of Konosuba and development of characters. Vol 11 to Vol 14, Conclusion of most of character story arcs including Megumin and Darkness as well as their relationship with Kazuma. Vol 15 to Vol 17 Conclusion of Kazuma and Aqua story arcs and End of Konosuba.
@@Ashenl2d The movie adapts Volume 5, so everything from then on continues from there, but I highly recommend you read it from the start, since there's quite a bit of cut content
@@Ashenl2d If you want to know about Dust and his party, read Vol 2 of the Light Novel in the chapter where Kazuma and him change parties. Same if you want to get to know more about Wiz and her backstory. Else start with Vol 6 of the Light Novel where Kazuma and his party go to the Capital Kingdom where they meet Princess Iris. That would be the perfect start for reading Light Novels if you don't want to cover what has already been covered in the Anime. Also check out the manga version as between Vols 2 to 5 there are different events in the Manga including a chapter where Kazuma and his party briefly go to Japan to see where Kazuma used to live.
Same. And when I reached that part in the manga, I cried again. And again when I got to that point in the LN. That scene, no matter the media, will always make me shed tears.
Excellent video! I originally thought Konosuba was a lot more ecchi, but was pleasently surprised how many layers and good writing was in the series. I just binged the first two seasons, both OVAs, and the movie this past week and I'm really enjoying it! I also wish the team swap episode was adapted in the anime.
I actually cried a little on the moment Kazuma put all Megumin's skill points back to her explosion magic. Shows how Kazuma knows Megumin and how he loved her for what she is.
It was definitely at that moment that she knew that she was in love with him, the second night at the Crimson Demon Village may have shown Megumin that while Kazuma is a big pervert, he will never go beyond simple teasing and peeking unless the girl involved is ok with it (but as we've seen with Darkness, even this isn't guaranteed to be true) which probably made Megumin more comfortable around him, i.e. being cool with cuddling up to him in bed, because she knew that even if Kazuma was in the mood (he definitely was lol) he would never take advantage of her and would never hurt her... But the moment he went against ALL logic and threw all her skill points into Explosion Magic Boost was the moment that she truly fell for him, she told him to unlock Advanced Magic for her, thus sealing away Explosion Magic but deep down she didn't want to do it, she wanted to do that to be more helpful... but Kazuma knew that she wanted to keep spamming Explosion Magic so he did what she WANTED to do, not what she SHOULD do I mean, Kazuma has a -useless- sometimes useful Goddess, a Masochistic Crusader, and of course; a literal walking nuke as party members, if he wanted to make logical choices, he never would have requited them! #BestGirlMegumin
@@deinonychus1948 I agree with you on almost all points. But that last one. I don't think he had much input on his party comp. Aqua is there because he felt responsible/guilty for her circumstances, and is still there because he's come to tolerate and even like her. The other two are essentially he got guilt tripped by life to take and keep them in the short term, then came to actually like them over time. Don't remember the specifics.
You won't believe but i bawled out when aqua was crying for real once, that illustration of eris calming down a crying aqua was the epitome of emotions {for me at lest} then strikes the void in the heart that the series ends there... I could've enjoyed a few more volumes even 5 to 10 og them
I HIGHLY recommend the dust spin-off. It really well written and made dust probably in my top 3 characters in the series. Dust is probably has the most depth of any Konosuba character, and his spin-off does answer one of the questions you had at the end of the video.
Kazuma works as a lovable dick, because he rarely ever starts a fight/conflict. Usually it’s someone else either actively or accidentally provoking him and then him retaliating in dickish but efficient ways. Take the Chris panties theft as an example. It starts with Chris challenging Kazuma to a fair wager, only to then reveal that she stacked the odds impossibly in her favor and then basically robs him. Kazuma publicly embarrassing her in an unexpected way is “just” from our perspective as a viewer. Even if other characters in the show only see him making fun of a cute girl. Same goes for Aqua when she starts crying after mean comments or any other character. The reason why Kazuma works is because he is petty, not malicious. He would never hurt or attack someone for no reason but rather does seem to have some level of strong heroic traits, even if his good deeds are done in dickish ways.
@@BrandonRTalks Also I remembered another thing, about why A"hole Kazuma works. He never punches down. When Kazuma does something dickish it's usually against one of two types of characters. Either someone powerful and arrogant (in other words a bully), against whom underhanded tactics are needed for the otherwise weak Kazuma to win. Like Chris during the Theft Wager or that Sword-Dick, who challenged Kazuma despite the obvious power difference. We won't feel bad about Kazuma stealing and humiliating them, because they deserve it. OR His friends, who can take the punch and hit Kazuma back and are overall on equal footing to him. Like when after refusing to come out for works and sapping his friends energy, Darkness and Megumin threw him out the window. Or the many times Aqua blackmails him into giving her money. Or that time Megumin threatened to smear Kazuma, if he doesn't allow her into his party. In addition to all that, Kazuma does show remorse, when he goes too far. Easy example would be when, after winning the Steal Wager with Chris, he want's to show off his new skills and accidentally steals Megumins underwear. Which makes her all meek. He doesn't get loud and seems a bit embarrassed himself. Since he knows he messed up.
Kazuma displays traits that every good leader has. He believes in himself, he believes in his allies, yet he also makes mistakes along the way that could make people question him. Regardless, characters DO have faith in him! And truly, that is what makes people believe in leaders.
20:22 THANK YOU!. From reading the LN that was the one chapter I wanted animated the most. It really shows how creative Kazuma actually is and its one of the earlier points to show my Megumin and Darkness stay. They both have been unable to find a party that wants to keep them and seeing how bad the 3 of them manage despite their power with Dust leading them really hammers home how precious Kazuma must be to them.
Konosuba engraved deeply in me, just hearing the intro/outro makes me emotional. Thanks for this deep dive, i realized i wasn't alone in realizing many of these points myself :)
Something else that usually gets overlooked in konosuba is the masterclass in the use of the Chekovs gun trope and worldbuilding, literally any location or ancient thing is mentioned is usually foreshadowing for a future encounter/adventure, and there is always a good reason to travel to those places.
I like the fact that megumin is practically the only flat-chested one in her friendgroup if you watch the anime, IMO it emphasizes the fact she was malnourished.
@@Anthracite_coal The author specifically emphasized that she was way smaller then the others in her clan because she was malnourished. Her chest size is a by-product of that and used for comedy.
the series get me started reading light novel, i cant believe i laugh so much reading text. idk its easy to read, everything clearly shown in my head, the scene, the character is so distinct that its easy to give a unique voice to everyone's dialogue in my head. CGtranslation definitely play a huge role on that
I remember in the author's afterword for the last novel that the idea of revisiting Konosuba wasn't entirely off the table now that the first novel series ended.
I tear up a little while watching this ngl. You basically summed up everything I love about Konosuba. Thanks for making this video. I hope you grow big.
thank you for this video because it perfectly helped me decipher my own thoughts and opinions on the series. i absolutely love konosuba, but had no idea why and this video just helped me piece together the exact thoughts i was having while watching it recently. i also loved your critiques and the analysis of the series, i truly love it when people thoroughly and passionately review shows and movies this way. it makes you feel as if you're talking about it with a friend or something. seriously, thank you, this video made my night. not like it's saying much, but you just earned a sub!
You really did a good job with this review. I feel like you perfectly explained how Konosuba isn’t just fanservice and jokes, I always appreciated when the characters would put their differences aside for once and actually be good people, it’s those moments that makes this show really shine.
Honestly this show has great character writing. I think if I'm not mistaken the writer kinda originally said that he wanted the characters to be awful people and unlikable. Yet the exact opposite happened lol. I think the show is pretty much like Japanese Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The MCs in Kunosuba are obviously less horrible human beings though compared the always sunny crew.
18:07 aqua isn't just an excellent construction worker. she's so good at this weird specific niche that if a castle wall is completely broken she can have it repaired in a few hours and not just to an acceptable level. it will basically be as good as new. she's a goddess of water but i feel like she's a god of arts and crafts too.
Aqua's unconventional yet strong support skills are a highlight for me personally. it adds so much more personality to her when she has her own projects and you can see what she enjoys doing/likes etc.
Yes, Aqua is a good creative thinker. She WANTS problems to be solved, and she actively tries to fix these problems. However, there are times where she may not fully think things through, because she looks at possible solutions in ways that are creative, and abstract.
Darkness really redeemed herself later in the light novel. Especially when royalty is brought up. If season 3 is confirmed she’ll actually seem like a decent human being.
I didn't have faith in the light novel at first but god, I cannot conceive how someone can make a bunch of words beyond hilarious. The repeating patterns and gags don't get old somehow there, and it really nails the "character's inner thoughts"/POV pretty damn well, which is hard as hell when there's such bizarre stuff going on or when you are trying to follow a character that's utterly ridiculous
For me the most wholesome arc is the Aqua's running away from home. Everyone is just wanted to get her back. She is very social, she touched so many people with her fun and easy to interact with personality. About how Axis's cult is already known who she is, mentioned in Megumin's spinoff about how Axis's people feel her presence and Cecily silently stepping back. They really support her in the end, but wont step in to disturb her fun adventure in that world. Well, but i always feel that her infinity mana trope is wasted anyway
This is why Konosuba is in my top 5 isekais. I freaking love kazuma's friendship with his party and their dynamic. The movie ending was very sweet, Megumin best girl
Yeah, I already read the Light Novel till the end, and Konosuba plot really underrated. It's amazing how all really connected. Each main character play an important part for the plot which revealed later. I think this video really sums up a lot of what I love on this series.
As one of the first animes I've watched I always have a reason to go back to it since it has everything I needed in a show and is the reason I'm so into this Anime culture to begin with. Konosuba is still be my favorite anime and I thank it so much for this wonderful life.
Loved your video dude, amazing how you captured every little detail that makes kazuma and his party so unique and special and the bond they all share, though you didn't mentioned how great of a character Vanir is, your general comments and observations are right on point. You've made me want to read the light novels again just for how much I agree with you. Ps. The relationship between Megumin and Kazuma like you said is really just perfect and is greatly developed thought the novels, when you read all the sweet little lines Megumin end up saying is heart warming and shows just how much she actually cares.
You are right that the light novel expands so much on the characters we see in the anime. I read KonoSuba as my first light novel and it is probably responsible for my re-taking-up of reading as a hobby in general, it was that good. I would read the KonoSuba light novel during my boring classes, even printing it out on the school printer... That said, I wouldn't say it's appreciated for the "wrong reasons" - people are already aware, if only subconsciously, of all the talking points you laid out in this video. The attention-to-detail, the affable character roster, and the well-paced comedic timing all harmonise wonderfully in the anime, with those few 20 episodes we are treated to as an audience. The people who appreciate KonoSuba recognise these aspects no less than you or I - I would like to think. Big recommendation for those who haven't yet shared in the unbridled joy of the light novel :)
Kazuma is self-centered usually, but that's because he's not some heroic saint. He's just not a doormat who will automatically do whatever is asked of him because he's "the hero", "the main character" or "the guy". He's relatable. He's an average dude forced to save a world with the world's most insane team. He's...realistic. Whenever he does something truly wrong, he does get punished for it. He sapped Megumin's mana cause she mildly annoyed him. Later on bites him in the ass when she can't use her explosion as needed and he ends up killed for it. Whenever he is wrongly punished, it's usually rectified. So all of Kazuma's actions are rewarded accordingly.
Sorry if you don't understand me well, I'm using google translator xd ... Dude this is really the best video I've seen about konosuba by far and I've seen a lot of those. I love this series and it is one of my all time favorites, I share a lot of your opinions and thoughts on konosuba anime and light novel. I feel like I could talk about every point you've made in the video but I would be here for hours. I will only say thank you for sharing this and I hope your channel continues to grow. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ps: Kazumin best ship and couple

He's a normal guy, and it is soooo refreshing in anime in general, it's great. Good humor, and not that complicated, but good story. And it is not story about fighting monsters and saving world. It's story about bonds between Kazuma party members. Also about voice acting in 2:00. This is for what I love OtaKoi. Acting of heroine is so good, I love to rewatch it over and over.
I grew up in a big joint family with four other cousins, and watching the gang in konosuba (minus all the uh, perving) really reminds me of that! That's a dynamic I've literally never seen before, in or outside anime. (And damn, watching them I'm really glad there were so many adults back there)
I honestly think kazuma is the best character in all of anime and I love him so much and it’s funny in the spin-off Isekai quartet with him hating Subaru like bro that’s definitely kazuma. I love konosuba and will always be one of the top series in my book
This video was awesome. I love the way you directed it and handled your approach. We all can tell you truly like Konosuba. Besides I never got board or got distracted by anything. The video was so great it actually made me want to see the anime and read the manga myself. Overall great video and I can’t wait to see more of you videos.
31:49 the spin-off series for Dust only answers one of these questions and that’s what happened at axel I recommend all of them especially if you enjoyed the main series
I love how everything clicks together. The back story for the crimson mages in the movie was amazing and it's hilarious how Kazuma plugs Megumin's ears while Aqua reads. And yeah, those ending songs are... out of this world 😉
Kazuma is also a terrifying badass who can take out an entire castle basically solo with the help of a thief. He’s the highest level adventure in history and uses it’s multi class spells and abilities to a masterful degree.
Nah, he found his "cheat code" totally by accident and needed Vainir's and Wiz's help to exploit it I think the skill point system "adventurers card" is D&D 1.5 where you could learn anything with some limitation for class except Bard that can pick up anything seen at least once

What i love about KonoSuba is that Kazuma is the greatest party leader of all time. He manages to create SPECIFIC situations where his party member can use their full power and win. If that doesn't make him a great leader...
After a while he knows all their strengths and weaknesses. It’s why he’s a jack of all trades. He tries covering bases that his members lack. I think I remember too that Megumin felt bad and asked if she should be trying to learn other spells, and he tells her she’s already perfect as is. It was mainly because she realized he has to work harder to cover up for their party’s shortcomings.
I love how darkness is actually complex, like in a sens she is pure, and she has weird limits, se is not just a masochist, he has loimits, she is orre fantasising thn actually being hardcore. Also darknes, is vry helpful an genuinly the best person on the team.
That Megumin part where Kazuma buff's her Explo Magic is so deep that not any people will understand. When you have this unrealistic dream or if you fail so much in life and you only need one person to believe in you still. It gives so much hope. And that's why I love Konosuba so much, it's not only funny but have these hidden deep meanings of life.

One day ago, I guess you knew the algorithm shot the video
My dong is deeper then you think.
Literally
now let's see your take on Eminence of Shadow
Aqua has not just contributed, her actions shaped the world of Konosuba entirely.
° The guy who build the mobile fortress destroyer? A guy from earth who was *'most probably'* isekai'd by Aqua.
° Hans, the deadly slime? A German guy who for some reason became a super dangerous slime, probably isekai'd by Aqua though. :D
° The Crimson Demon clan's entire existence, also because of the guy Aqua isekai'd, the same dude who build the destroyer.
If you join the Axis Cult, you actually get a penalty on your natural intelligence, just because Aqua, the guardian Deity of the Cult herself, is not the brightest firefly out there. 😆
Eris comes down and travels the world occasionally.
So why couldn't Aqua do it before? And make her Axis Cult more decent?
We all know why. 😏
Because *'she doesn't care'* just wants to eat ships in the limbo and entertain herself.

I love how konosuba was supposed to be a mockery of the isekai genre. But instead become one of the best isekai’s ever made
The best genre parodies tend to be just good stories set in the genre, because to make a good parody, you need an understanding of a genres strengths and issues and then write with those in mind.
It’s the best because it didn’t go by the traditional Isekai shit.

Megumin explosion: am i a joke to u
I might be wrong but I respect Kazuma because throughout the entire series he remained himself he didn’t lose himself
Yes. He doesn't have a facade. From the beginning to end, he's that lovable relatable scumbag.
I love Darkness as a character. Yes, she has obvious flaws, but she’s courageous through and through.
Darkness seriously redefined what the word "shameless" means, and to see her genuinely get embarrassed during the Lalatina arc was quite surprising even though it may not seem much.
God that episode had me in stitches.
She also got genuinely embarrassed when she thought those guys were dead but it was revealed that aqua revived them
Another reason megumin is best girl: Rie Takahashi.
Heck YES bro 🙏
Yes, the VA plays an integral role in this show
YES
What a legendary actress
Even the English va. Omg.
He was sleep deprived
My thoughts exactly after rewatching the series.
exactly, even though the result was shameful and pathetic, his intention was heroic, he truly thought he was saving someone's life, and that shows even more in the series and movie, even when the catastrophe currently happening is WAY out of his control, he WILL find a way to save everyone
Hikineet wants to be a hero so bad he can't access the situation properly
The episode when Vanir possessed Darkness was absolutely hysterical! The timing of their back and forth was pure brilliance.
I really enjoy the color scheme between all of the main characters like it's easy to distinguish between them all:
Megunin - Red/Brown
Darkness - Yellow/white
Aqua - Blue
Kazuma - Green
Wiz - Purple (though she's not part of the main group)
Yunyun - Pink
Vanir - Black/White
Dust - Yellow
Rin - Green/Brown
Yes.
And they all have a yellow border/outline to group them up subtly.
Literally windows 7
That's really interesting! This gave me a new perspective on Konosuba, so thanks!

'He went from a cynical guy who hated the world to someone who willing to die and come back for it' , yet he may hate that world in the beginning , but he ultimately loves and cherishes it. That explains why the title of the show is 'God blessing on this wonderful world'.
God's Blessing On This Wonderful Anime. Amen...
For real, if only her masochistic trait wasn't SO overused, although in S3 it's way less present
...She tried to rape kazuma though
What I love is they act like ACTUAL friends when they're in a group. They care deeply but never miss the chance to be absolute turds to each other.
Kazuma is like the den mother for a troupe of derpy idiot children. Jaded and tired but still caring.
Aqua is that friend that always disappears immediately when they start drinking. A spaz but loveable
Darkness is the one that starts a barfight they absolutely cannot win. Then you have to rescue while they laugh about getting whooped. She's super trustworthy but always attracts trouble.
Megumin is the one egging the friend on in the barfight but can't even survive a slap. Always shite-stirring but never hesitates to back up her friends.
Deep down, the girls care about Kazuma and he them, that's why when he dies against the Demon King, he can't see himself leaving them for good.
megumin is powerful bro she also have a powerful heart , i love how she looks dumb and cute but got so much magical power .............. all girls in this anime are something...
In LN megumin win a barfight, because her level is so high
Never thought I would be seeing them as drunkards
A person that loves to be hurt, a maniac that want to make everything explode, a man that's just want to cuddle a Milf, and Aqua. All of that has a deeper meaning.
Yeah such quality bro its amazing how " deep" modern isekai can be wow
A knight with an impenetrable defence, a greatly renowned adventurer, and a one shooting arch-wizard…
Oh yea there’s also Aqua.
"aqua"
A masocistic women a loli t sundere a man that try to do good but always get blame as the scumbag (but some time he is) and an anoying self proclaim goddess and whom name is aqua
As much as I love Megumin, Darkness is life and the biggest reason I fell in love with the show. It was already great when it was just the 3 of them but when Darkness joined it went from great to epic/classic. She was that final piece(and what a piece at that) that made the crew and the show complete.
Darkness doesn't get the respect she deserves. Sure, being a masochist is her main joke, but every time she does her horny thing, it is hilarious!
My favorite part in the s2 intro is how happy she looks, getting to explode the group, and them actually needing her to do it

I absolutely love it when we get dubs like that. Completely agree, Konosuba and Kaguya's dubs are both great
Both of these dubs sit in the same realm the high school dxd dub sits. They are just fun to watch
He dedicates like 15 minutes to talk just about that and gives several examples about it.
I'd just like to add the obligatory mention of Ghost Stories and its dub, which does a similar "abridged series" vibe compared to the original
The Konosuba dub IS THE ONLY ANIME DUB THAT IS GOOD IMO

Yes. I love Konosuba, and it makes me happy to see that more positivity is being spread for this OBJECTIVELY good story!
Exactly! She's actually incredibly capable, but everyone just ignores it because it's way funner to bully her 😂
Aqua is useless from an adventurer perspective.
For me, it just sounds like a message about the world we live in and when you have a few good people in your life you just wanna stay because of them

Vol 5 to Vol 10, Middle of Konosuba and development of characters.
Vol 11 to Vol 14, Conclusion of most of character story arcs including Megumin and Darkness as well as their relationship with Kazuma.
Vol 15 to Vol 17 Conclusion of Kazuma and Aqua story arcs and End of Konosuba.

I fucking cried at the megumin's "last explosion" in the movie. That was the best moment ever.
Honestly one of my favourite moments in Konosuba. It's just such a sweet moment
But the moment he went against ALL logic and threw all her skill points into Explosion Magic Boost was the moment that she truly fell for him, she told him to unlock Advanced Magic for her, thus sealing away Explosion Magic but deep down she didn't want to do it, she wanted to do that to be more helpful... but Kazuma knew that she wanted to keep spamming Explosion Magic so he did what she WANTED to do, not what she SHOULD do
I mean, Kazuma has a -useless- sometimes useful Goddess, a Masochistic Crusader, and of course; a literal walking nuke as party members, if he wanted to make logical choices, he never would have requited them!

Kazuma was excellent strategist especially in war he can use people to make perfect combinations
I never cried because of an anime, but that last scene from the movie with the cloud heart, i just couldn't hold it...
That scene is just the sweetest thing ever and I love it to death
A scene I believe is objectively poetic. The sky has a heart in it, because something is happening in the story that symbolizes... love 😊

The music is great too, the intro and especially the outro it perfectly reflects how lighthearted and fun and peaceful it is.
I HIGHLY recommend the dust spin-off. It really well written and made dust probably in my top 3 characters in the series. Dust is probably has the most depth of any Konosuba character, and his spin-off does answer one of the questions you had at the end of the video.
I wasn't so sure about the Dust Spinoff's at first, but as they progressed they got SO GOOD. I still need to finish the last one though
Exactly! Every character in Konosuba gets exactly what they deserve, and that's why we can still love them despite being kinda terrible people.
OR
His friends, who can take the punch and hit Kazuma back and are overall on equal footing to him.
His face is still punchable.
@@frankwest5388 Punching down is the best time to punch a bitch though

The MCs in Kunosuba are obviously less horrible human beings though compared the always sunny crew.
im glad i got spoiled i have never been this happy to hear how a series end
Let me put it this way... If we didn't have aqua, we never would have known the most important fact in this story:
"The God Eris pads her chest."
EXACTLY
@@laputaindepestenoire9492 BATMAN agrees 👍
BATMAN approves 👍
I don't mind
Author confirms that fact was wrong
18:07 aqua isn't just an excellent construction worker. she's so good at this weird specific niche that if a castle wall is completely broken she can have it repaired in a few hours and not just to an acceptable level. it will basically be as good as new. she's a goddess of water but i feel like she's a god of arts and crafts too.
I FLIPPING LOVED THAT.
Seriously, watching Aqua just casually rebuild the wall with basically no effort, leaving the enemy dumbfounded was hilarious.
Like when she constructed that robot for megumin.
Aqua's POV was a joy to read tbh
For me the most wholesome arc is the Aqua's running away from home. Everyone is just wanted to get her back. She is very social, she touched so many people with her fun and easy to interact with personality. About how Axis's cult is already known who she is, mentioned in Megumin's spinoff about how Axis's people feel her presence and Cecily silently stepping back. They really support her in the end, but wont step in to disturb her fun adventure in that world. Well, but i always feel that her infinity mana trope is wasted anyway
"the one thing i really wished was animated, was the dust swap chapter"
i cant agree hard enough

"And then of course there is Megumin." Ah yes what we all have been waiting for
Megumin is best girl for sure! and if anyone disagrees with me then I have one thing to say...
EXPLOSION!!!!

Type of video to put in watch later as I click on the video and end up watching the entire thing immediately

Thanks for this insight. Konosuba S3 has begun and I love it so far.
That Kazuma and Megumin on the grassy field scene is 1trillion% art
I’m gonna be honest, I can tell you put genuine effort into this video and judging by this video alone you deserve more subscribers, i only saw this because of your reddit advertisement, if more people were exposed to your videos I think a large amount of first-time watchers would subscribe but the TH-cam algorithm works in mysterious ways, anyway great video really enjoyed it
Thank you!
Oh my god you're the first person I know who has clicked on those things
He's a normal guy, and it is soooo refreshing in anime in general, it's great. Good humor, and not that complicated, but good story. And it is not story about fighting monsters and saving world. It's story about bonds between Kazuma party members.
Also about voice acting in 2:00. This is for what I love OtaKoi. Acting of heroine is so good, I love to rewatch it over and over.
I grew up in a big joint family with four other cousins, and watching the gang in konosuba (minus all the uh, perving) really reminds me of that! That's a dynamic I've literally never seen before, in or outside anime. (And damn, watching them I'm really glad there were so many adults back there)
Yes! That's one of the things I love about their relationship with each other. That they feel "real" with each other.
I honestly think kazuma is the best character in all of anime and I love him so much and it’s funny in the spin-off Isekai quartet with him hating Subaru like bro that’s definitely kazuma. I love konosuba and will always be one of the top series in my book
Fellow Kazuma lover, here! I too think he is a very well fleshed out character. He is one of my favorites out of all anime.
This video was awesome. I love the way you directed it and handled your approach. We all can tell you truly like Konosuba. Besides I never got board or got distracted by anything. The video was so great it actually made me want to see the anime and read the manga myself. Overall great video and I can’t wait to see more of you videos.
19:30 soap is inviting you to the axis cult he's trusting that you join him
31:49 the spin-off series for Dust only answers one of these questions and that’s what happened at axel I recommend all of them especially if you enjoyed the main series
There were a few moments when Aqua was humming or singing the intro song. I absolutely love those moments
Nah, he found his "cheat code" totally by accident and needed Vainir's and Wiz's help to exploit it
I think the skill point system "adventurers card" is D&D 1.5 where you could learn anything with some limitation for class except Bard that can pick up anything seen at least once

No, let me be obsequious in thy heart, And tell you:
May the contrite soul, the humbled spirit be acceptable to Truth as death of rams and bullocks, as thousands of fatted lambs: such let our new sacrifice be with you today, and may it be your will that we follow wholeheartedly, since those who put their trust in you will not be disappointed.
Found you through reddit and am already binge watching all your videos. I love your commentary/essays. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks! I'm glad that you enjoy 👍
